Typically when a trailer hitch is installed on a vehicle with the automatic liftgate sensor it does not disable the sensor. It does get in the way, but you can generally still activate the liftgate by kicking to the left or right of the receiver.

I looked up the 2006 Nissan Murano and the two switches on your brake pedal are for the brake light and the other switch is for the traction control/cruise control. To find the correct wire you will need to use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, and test the wires. I would start with the switch that has a red wire with a green stripe and test that wire for power only when the brakes are applied.

If the trailer became disconnected from the tow vehicle the Prodigy RF # TK94FR would not have that power interruption from the vehicle 12 volt circuit to tell it to apply the trailer brakes. The RF does actually need the brake signal to function properly.

A tie down bracket is usually just a little loop of metal that is used to secure vehicles to the car hauler trailer when they move cars from the factory to a dealership. If you are using the correct bold, then the method I recommend to clean the weld nuts is with a wire brush part # 814092 and spray lube. In order for the method to work you will need to let the lube soak for around an hour and then vigorously clean with the brush. If this still does not work then you can use a 12 mm X 1.25 tap.
