You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one) on your 2003 GMC Safari. For that you would want the # C55411.
From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This... view full answer...
In order to install the Prodigy P2 brake controller, # 90885, you will need to hardwire it using a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. If you do not have a 4-Way already on your 2000 GMC Safari, you will need to install one first. You will need Draw-Tite Wiring, # 18252. This is a basic hardwire harness. Yellow is for left turn and brake, brown is for running lights, green is for right turn and brake, and white is the ground. I have included a video showing how this harness is installed.

I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation.
With the 4-Way installed, you would then need to add a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit... view full answer...
The best bet would be to locate the stoplight switch at the top of the brake pedal, and then locate the wires or wiring harness that comes from it. Using a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, probe the wires until you find one that shows a signal only when the brake pedal is applied. view full answer...
The installation of a trailer brake controller like the Prodigy P2 # 90885 in a 2003 GMC Safari van and the parts needed will depend on how it is equipped.
If the van has a factory-installed 7-way trailer connector you may be able to find a pre-installed blue wire (for the controller's output signal to the 7-way) that will be under the dash near the emergency brake pedal. This will connect to the controller's blue wire.

It would be pretty straightforward. You would want to remove your current breakaway system and install an Engager Trailer BreakAway Kit # 20099 like you referenced. To see how it would install I attached installation instructions, and install video, plus an FAQ article on these systems. view full answer...
