While the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99251 does have the ability to work with vacuum boosted brakes it will still work on other vehicles as well. This is covered in the installation instructions as you will simply install the vacuum line with the check valve open to vent. It can also be used on vehicles with hydraulic or electric boosted brakes. view full answer...
Great question, Bob!
The Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99251 actually activates the vacuum in your vehicle so the vehicle brakes work more naturally - it doesn't rely on the vehicle's vacuum system to operate.
If your vehicle happens to not utilize vacuum braking then there are provisions for this on page 16 of the installation instructions. view full answer...
You'll need a 12 volt charge, so the Hopkins wiring harness isn't something you want to use with the Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Flat Tow Brake System # HM39524.
The Hopkins is for lights only and doesn't have a connection for the charge line so you'd need one that does, the Roadmaster # RM-15267. view full answer...
Hey Rob,
The Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System # BLU37TR has its own proprietary break away switch # BRK2505 that has a 2-pole connector to plug into the Patriot and a pull cord to connect to one of the tow loops on the motorhome trailer hitch. view full answer...
Hey Douglas,
There's quite a bit involved in installing the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # SM99251.
It does use the vehicle's brakes, and to oversimplify, how it works is the brake lights of your motorhome and an inertia sensor will activate the brakes of your vehicle with the same intensity of your motorhome. I have added a link below to the installation instructions which I do recommend taking a look at for details. view full answer...
Depending on your experience and skill level it will take a couple of hours to set up the wiring and settings initially. Once that's done the Brake Buddy Classic 3 item # HM39494 will pop in and out in a few minutes. view full answer...
The Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System # DM26VR will work with your 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. This is assuming your RV has air brakes. For hydraulic brakes I recommend the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # SM99251. The battery disconnect you need is the Roadmaster Battery Disconnect # RM-766.
I attached some installation videos below for your reference. view full answer...
Hey Ken, so I pulled up an online version of the owners manual of your 2023 GMC Canyon and found that the negative battery cable does need to get disconnected when flat towing the vehicle. This is in step 10 which is on page 316.
This is true for using the braking system # SM99251 that you have or any other as well. view full answer...
I have the installation instructions on how to get the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo item # SM99251 set up but nothing specific on how to install it in a 2009 Honda Civic. What I can help you with is that the operating unit measures 8" long x 6-1/4" x 2-1/2" tall. We do have this braking system confirmed to fit your Civic so hopefully you can find the necessary room.
Another option is to install a portable system like the Blue Ox Patriot item # BLU37TR. This is one of our most popular and reliable... view full answer...
Hey Pete, that is an odd piece of advice you found where it said that if the car weighs less than 3,000 lb a supplemental braking system isn't required. The laws on that do vary state to state so I would for sure check in your area but it would be best to be on safe side and install one like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. view full answer...
AAMCO most likely disconnected it when they did work on your vehicle since most vehicles require disconnected the battery before doing so so my guess would be that they forgot to reconnect it at the battery upon completion of the work so you should check there. Also make sure the wiring connections at the battery are made tightly. view full answer...
The steering wheel shouldn't be locked when flat towing since the wheels need to be able to turn. I'm assuming since the manual says to turn the ignition to lock that it won't be a problem and still allows them to turn. It is always important to follow the owner's manual when flat towing. If you really want to be sure I would talk to your local dealer about it first.
Pulling the fuses helps you avoid a dead battery since it drains the battery while towing. I suppose you could install... view full answer...
Hey Jim,
The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56200 doesn't have an extra connector to run up to the third brake light on your Jeep. You would have to splice in the Pacer 3rd Brake Light Module # PP20-702 to your # HM56200 and splice it into the wiring for the third brake light. This logic module will read the signals coming through and filter them properly for the third brake light to function while the Wrangler is being flat towed. view full answer...
I attached a link to this page that you can use to find a local installer to you for installing base plates and other flat towing components. view full answer...
Hey Todd,
The Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # DM86VR needs the stop light signal from your motorhome in order to activate. If the system is activating when your right turn signal is on then something likely is wired incorrectly. I would recheck your wiring to make sure everything is ran correctly. view full answer...
Hey Frank,
It sounds like you have a 3-wire system on the tow vehicle and you're connecting to a 2-wire system trailer so you'd just need a converter like the Curt # C56196 to make the your lights function properly. If you can give me the year/make/model of the tow vehicle I can see if there's a wire harness with a converter already built into it to make installation easier. view full answer...
We actually have an installation video for the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit # RM-154 which I have linked near the bottom of the page. I always recommend verifying the wire function before connecting the diodes but here are the colors for the wiring we found on the 2006 Jeep Liberty in our shop.
Drivers Side
White wire with a tan stripe - brake light
Red wire - running light
Passenger Side
White wire with tan stripe - brake light

Hey Dan,
The ground for the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 typically gets tied into the ground for the braking system to intertwine them so that they're active at the same time. When used to prevent turn signals from overriding the brake signal the relay is essentially just a switch that requires the running light signal from the motorhome in order for it to turn on so that it doesn't interfere with the vehicle's signals when not being towed.

Yes, you can use the Curt True Course Advanced Bluetooth Trailer Sway Control # C94VV on a trailer being towed behind a 5th wheel. You will want to also use a Curt Echo # C51180 brake controller with this to control the trailers brakes when stopping. The only reason the systems wouldn't work is if they are not getting a sufficient power supply from the tow vehicle which may require you to run a dedicated power wire through the 5th wheel for the rear trailers 7-way connection. view full answer...
Hi Shane,
Thanks so very much for your purchase from etrailer of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. We appreciate your business and the issue with it not being connected could be due to how a brake controller installs on certain year Silverado's, including 2008.
What you need to do is activate the brake controller and 12 volt power post connections under your hood. It's somewhat lengthy so I have added a link below to a help article which details how to do this. view full answer...
