The brown wire on the Hopkins Taillight Converter Kit with 4-Way Flat Connector # HM48895 is for taillights and because you know the red wire with the green stripe on your 2002 Ford Taurus is the brake light, and the light black (or grey) is the ground, the other wire between them is likely brown, is that correct? In my research of your 1999 Ford Taurus, it appears that you will need to remove the interior door panel to unplug some connections and then remove the plastic panel covering the mirror assembly.
There are two locations of the screws on the door panel that will need to be removed to allow the door panel to come off as well as some wiring connections. The two screws are located in the interior of handle of the door and behind the exiting handle on the interior of the vehicle.

If it is a Voyager then it could be either a 9030 or a 9035. The 9030 was designed for up to 2 axle trailers (4 brake assemblies maximum). The 9035 was the Voyager XP and could be used with up to 4 axle trailers (8 brake assemblies). When installing the Curt Hitch, part # C13379, the exhaust hangers will be attached to the tabs on the hitch plate instead of reinstalling in the original location. This may cause a slight change in the exhaust and exhaust tips when the hitch is installed. We haven't received any negative response from customers about the height of the exhaust as you mentioned.
