The problem you most likely are experiencing is due to fact that semi trucks have the turn signals and stoplight circuit on separate circuits/wires. Standard trailer wiring has the stoplight and turn signal circuits on the same wire.
So in your situation you would need to wire in the Hopkins Tail Light Converter part # HM48847 on just the stoplight and turn signal circuits and you'll be good.
A brake controller would not affect the stoplight circuit at all. view full answer...
It sounds like 1 of 2 possible issues. First, if the vehicle has separate turn signal lights from the brake lights then you have a 3-wire system and you would need a converter such as # 119178KIT to take the separate signals and combine them. Then you can run the combined signals to the 7-Way by cutting off the 4-Way of the 119178KIT and attaching the wires to the 7-Way.

Sounds like you are trying to pull the metal contacts out of the quick connect assembly. What you'll need to do is insert a slot screwdriver down into the opening end of the connector with the slot perpendicular to the opening so that you can depress the metal tab that holds the pins into the house and allow you to pull the lead out of the back of the connector. view full answer...
