To do this simply pull up on the mat at the front until they become disengaged. 1.) Put the Hatch Huggers inside the rear door with the straps vertical.
2.) Close the rear hatch.
3.) Shimmy the straps up to the side of the hatch near the install location.
4.) Install the Saris Bones rack per normal instructions, skipping the side straps.

It looks as if your hitch crossbar has been drilled into and riveted into place which is a BIG TIME no-no. The people that installed it should have known better as drilling into a hitch can weaken it's structural integrity.
