I was an English and Literature professor a few years back so I know that academia can produce modern day renaissance men and women capable of installing a trailer hitch.
With that said, the instructions state that the estimated install time for the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13220, is 3 hours (90 minutes for a pro). We have a scale of difficulty for installing trailer hitches. It is a 10-based scale with 1 being equivalent to attaching two legos together and 10 being quantum... view full answer...
It sounds like you're referring to the Tekonsha # 119250KIT for your 2014 Audi Q7 and there is an installation video on a 2018 Audi Q7 of this linked to this answer. You can bypass connecting the 12v power supply instead to a fuse panel located in the rear cargo area of the vehicle using part # F2526, since this will eliminate the need to run a wire all the way up to the battery under the driver's seat. The photo you're referring to is actually the 4-way connector you're installing, and... view full answer...
I recommend using a No-Drill Mount Bracket, Long # 18136. You may need to modify the # 18136 bracket or the bracket that comes with the Hopkins Trailer Connector # HM40975 to work for your application, since the crossbar of your trailer hitch is hidden up behind the bumper.
The mounting bracket # C57202 measures 6-1/2 inches long. You will want to measure from the top of your hitch's crossbar to the bottom of the bumper to make sure that this bracket will clear the bumper. view full answer...
Since you said that your hitch, drawbar, and 7-Way connector were all factory installed the best scenario would be if there was some wiring under the driver's side dash of your 2017 Audi Q7 that you simply splice the 4 wires of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 to. If this is the case, you will simply splice the following colors to the correct functions:
White - Ground
Black - 12V Power
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake is pressed)
Blue - Brake Controller Signal... view full answer...
Your 2019 Audi Q7 has a combined trailer wiring setup that uses pulse width modulation. Combined means "2 wire". On the install chart this is the PWM-STT setup for the Curt harness part # C59236. view full answer...
I have a solution for your 2020 Audi Q7 but you are going to have to do some cutting of a lower trim fascia. I recommend the etrailer 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver item # e88KR. This hitch receiver is custom fit to your vehicle and requires no welding or drilling into your frame. I have linked the installation instructions to show you the 7.25 inch by 3.5 inch section that will have to be cut out of the lower panel below your rear bumper trim.
For your trailer light control, I recommend the... view full answer...
There is more detailed information on trimming the fascia on a 2017 Audi Q7 to install trailer hitch # e88KR in the instructions I have linked.
If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to... view full answer...
There is a "color" chart for the Tekonsha Bargman 7-Way Connector with Coiled Cable, Item # WG54006-046, that is below:
White--Ground
Red--Left Turn and Brake
Brown--Right Turn and Brake
Green--Tail Lights
Blue--Brake Power
Black--12 Volt
Yellow--Auxiliary
However, manufacturers do not have a color standard for wiring and often change them so you will need to connect function-to-function and not necessarily color-to-color. When connecting function-to-function, you will need to use a circuit... view full answer...
The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e88KR which is a fit for a 2017 Audi Q7 has a hidden design which means there isn't a bulky cross tube that hangs below the bumper. The adverse side effect of this however is that there also isn't any easy trailer connector mounting bracket solution because of the hidden design. Therefore, the only place to mount the trailer connector is to the bottom of the bumper fascia, preferably directly beside the receiver tube opening.

In regards to weight distribution systems, there are those with integrated sway control like the Reese Steadi-Flex part # RP66559 and there are those with separate sway control like the Reese part # RP66542 with part # 83660. The options with separate sway control will require drilling into the frame or welding, there is no way around this. If you don't want to drill/weld then your only option is a system with integrated sway control. view full answer...
The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 receives power from the pin in the one o'clock position, not the center pin (see photo). The center pin for reverse lights and the one o'clock pin for the 12 volt power can be found wired either way but in order for the Curt Echo to work it needs to be the former way. If the trailer connector is already wired using the latter then you can switch the wires at the back of the connector pretty easily. view full answer...
The ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT comes with the inline fuse that you are referring to. If you don't have it, then you can go with Spectro 14-Gauge ATO-ATC Fuse Holder # SWC9538 along with the compatible Curt 15-Amp Blade Fuse # C58450-1. For the butt connector, # DW05714 would work well; this is sold in a quantity of 1. If you want shrink wrap butt connectors, then you will need to purchase a pack of 10 #... view full answer...
A vehicle 7-way harness will have a locking tab of some type to ensure the wiring harness remains connected to the socket. This is an important safety feature for maintaining all of the trailer signals but especially so for the power to the trailer brakes.
The exact appearance and operation of these locking tabs can vary. For example, on Hopkins 7-way harness # HM40975-11998 there is a small grey locking tab, shown in one of the linked photos, that slides to lock/unlock the connection.... view full answer...
In order to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13277 some trimming of the fascia will be required. This will be a 3.5" x 7.25" area as outlined in the instructions.
This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and a concealed cross tube. It features a gloss black powder coat finish and a bolt-on installation. This hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight of 7,000 lbs and tongue weight of 700 lbs.
If you plan on towing, I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness... view full answer...
If your 2013 Audi Q7 is equipped with the factory 7-Way connector you will need to obtain a couple of items from an authorized Audi dealer, specifically part 1J0-972-782 for the brake control harness and two of part 000-979-228 for the wire/terminal assemblies.
I have attached a link for the full tech bulletin that you mentioned further down this page. This explains exactly how to use the above-mentioned parts to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. If you have any... view full answer...
Having trouble with the auto-lift tailgate function on newer vehicles after a trailer hitch is installed isn't an uncommon occurrence. With the etrailer # e88KR installed on your 2019 Audi Q7 try kicking to the left and right of the receiver in a back-and-forth motion (like kicking a soccer ball) and this should activate the tailgate. I have attached a photo with some other locations you can try as well.
If you let me know what you plan on using the trailer hitch for, I can make some additional... view full answer...
Because of its extremely hidden nature (the hitch essentially becomes invisible to the eye when it's not in use) the Stealth Hitch # 391AUDQ716T will indeed require some fascia trimming on your 2020 Audi Q7 during installation. This is to allow the drop-down receiver to protrude through the bumper when it's attached.
The instructions that will come included do a really great job of outlining what needs to be cut. I have attached an image from this manual below so you can get a better... view full answer...
When pairing the Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller # TK94FR we have heard of this issue a few times and it doesn't have to do with the vehicle at all.
I reached out to my tech contact at the manufacturer and he said that they are rewriting the instructions because it is confusing and the double zero won't appear until it is paired, which doesn't happen when it is new or even sometimes when it is transferred to another vehicle. So, here is a step by step to get you going based on the... view full answer...
When installing the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75950 on your 2014 Audi Q7 the backup sensor does get unplugged, but it does not need to be re-calibrated or programmed to work properly. We installed this hitch on a Q7 just like yours and did not have that issue at all. I attached an install video link for this hitch on a 2014 Q7 like yours as well.
To be extra cautious you might disconnect your battery before unplugging the sensor and then plugging the sensor back in before reconnecting the... view full answer...
It's possible that with the Curt hitch part # C13277 installed on your 2019 Audi Q7 you'd have limited access to the hands free liftgate function of your vehicle. You'd be limited to kicking to either side of the hitch opening. Now the best option for your vehicle is the Stealth hitch part # 391AUDQ716 that you referenced as the lower hitch opening removes when not in use so your hands free liftgate wouldn't be affected at all. view full answer...
