The online owner's manual for the 2010 Dodge Journey indicates (page 367) that the 2.4L version can tow up to 1000-lbs and this includes up to 5 persons and luggage. It also states that the most the vehicle and trailer together can weigh (the GCWR or gross combined weight rating) is 6000-lbs. Since the curb weight of the vehicle is a bit under 4000-lbs this suggests the car could tow close to 2000-lbs. This is shy of the 2600-lbs but not by a whole lot.

According to the Dodge online owner's manual for the 2013 Dodge Journey, the 2.4L automatic transmission version has a maximum trailer towing weight rating of 1000-lbs and a maximum tongue weight rating (TW is downward force on the hitch) of 100-lbs. This includes the weight of up to 5 passengers and luggage. The most the vehicle and a connected trailer can weigh together is 6000-lbs.

The inner diameter of the crosstube on the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76225 is 1-1/2". Therefore, a trailer hitch cover designed for a 2" receiver tube opening like the Rubber Hitch Cover part # 22282 will not work for this application. With that being said I am certain you could find something to work for this application with just a bit of modifications.

If the owner's manual for your 2014 Dodge Journey has your max trailer towing listed at 1,000 lbs then I don't advise going over that because that's what Dodge has tested and approved for your vehicle. If you do tow more than that and something is damaged you would most likely be voiding your warranty.

Before you do anything you will want to consult the owners manual of your 2010 Dodge Nitro to determine what Dodge recommends as towing capacities for your vehicle.

If Dodge has rated your 2010 Journey for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight, that is the maximum the vehicle can tow, even if a trailer hitch is rated higher. The limiting factor is the component with the lowest capacity, which is the rating you need to go by.
