Expert Answers about GMC Trailer Hubs and Drums

  • Should Trailer Hub/Drum be Replaced if it Has 1/8" Groove
  • A trailer hub & drum should be smooth, and should not have any groove in it. A 1/8" groove is pretty concerning and you should replace the drum right away, turning them won't work. I have added a link below to our selection of hubs which you can filter to find the right one, like for a 3,500 lb hub and drum the Dexter # 84546UC3-EZ.

  • Are There Replacement Hub/Drum Assemblies Available That Use Bearing Numbers LM67048 and L68149
  • Hi Benny, The # L68149 has a 1.378" inner diameter so that should be your inner bearing and the # LM67048 (1.25") should be your outer bearing. We don't currently offer any hub/drum assemblies with this combination of bearings. From what I can find you should have a 4.4k Dexter hub so I recommend reaching out to them directly to see if they still offer a replacement. If not, you'd be looking at replacing the axle to something with a more common spindle size so that we can replace the hubs.

  • Recommended Replacement Axle and Brakes for An Axis Products 93" Trailer Axle
  • Hey Eddie, I do have an option for you but the closest axle we offer for what you're looking for is the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e93GR which measures 94" at the hub face and 79" at the spring center. Since this'll be used to replace a trailer axle with a 93" hub face, the wheels/tires are going to stick out a 1/2" more on each side At this point, the spring seats can then be cut and rewelded. To convert your presumably surge brakes to electric, you're going to need...

  • Troubleshooting Difficulty Removing Brake Drums From A Trailer
  • Hello Bob, so to answer your first question, there is not specific torque rating for removing the axle nut. If you had to use an impact to get if off, it was probably installed incorrectly and over tightened, and was just locked up due to rust or corrosion caused by overheating. The procedure for correctly installing an axle nut is to first wrench it down to help seat the bearings. Then you back it off a notch or two to where the hub has some freedom of movement. Over tightening the...

  • What Size Idler Hubs and Bearing Buddy Protectors Fit a Shoreland'r LUV40TMXWMS1-16 Boat Trailer?
  • Based on the information I could find it appears your Shoreland'r LUV40TMXWMS1-16 uses standard 3,500lb axle and hubs. I always recommend verifying this as I have seen manufacturers make changes or trailers get axles changed due to being damaged in transit. These hubs will fit the 1.98" Bearing Buddy # BB1980A-SS. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 you found does contain the correct size bearings and grease seal for a standard 3,500lb axle and will also fit the Bearing Buddy...

  • Replacement Hub/Drum and Brake Parts For a Mobile Home Axle
  • Based on your image it appears you have an old mobile home axle on our trailer. These axles were designed to not be rebuilt and thrown away when they became damaged which is why you saw complete axle assemblies carried as spares on the trucks that hauled the mobile home to its destination. If you can disassemble one of the hubs and measure the spindle and hub for the correct size bearings, races and grease seals I can see if we have anything that will fit your hubs. Otherwise for an exact...

  • What Info is Needed to Pick Out Replacement Trailer Brake Assemblies
  • Hey William, there are a couple ways but easiest is to determine the axle weight capacity on your trailer and from there it's self explanatory. Or you can get part numbers from the back of the assemblies or from the hubs even. Measuring the drums can be helpful too. For example, the Dexter # 23-26-27 that you referenced is for 3,500 lb trailer axles which is very common.
