Actually, yes, the Thule OutWay platform style trunk mount bike rack, # TH65JV, is not the best option for a vehicle that has a fiberglass or otherwise soft bumper. It is meant more for vehicles that have a metal bumper like some trucks and SUVs.

The Thule Hullavator # TH898 needs a bit of an overhang past the feet of the rack to install and function so going with a longer bar will give you a better result in that regard.

It sounds like you have a factory installed 7-way on your 2011 BMW 535i which means that to wire in the P3 # 90195 you would only need to power the controller with the power and ground to your vehicle battery, tap into the brake light switch and then run the output circuit from the controller to the 7-way.
