Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the rear bumper on both the driver's and passenger's sides.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

It does what I need right now. There is a problem with the trailer electrical connector on my truck, where the wiring for the left blinker and hazard lights won’t work when connected to a trailer. I don’t want to rip out wiring to chase a short or a break, I can run, splice and reconnect wiring, I am no electrician. I tried to splicing some new wiring straight from the tail light but they keep getting crossed and makes things worse. Again I am no electrician. Came across this while I was researching electrician guides (there is a solution for my problem, just I lack the expertise) and I’m in school right now, so very limited time to work and research it. I installed it, zip tied the wires neatly out of the way, and put dielectric grease on the connections within a couple hours. Super easy and not complicated, just follow the few instructions and it completes your towing package. 4 stars because there is always room for improvement.

2003 Dodge Ram Pickup

Installation was quick, and I have yet to test lights on a trailer, so I can't review the functionality yet. I purchased the harness to get around the poorly designed power distribution units on a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 after my right side trailer lights went out. The only issue I have with the harness, which is very minor, is the electrical box of the harness did not have a sticker on it to label the wire functions. Slightly annoying, but will not hinder function at all.

2005 Dodge Ram Pickup

Seems to be a pretty good product. Everything works as it should and installation was quick and easy. Only problem was that my connection points was not where the instructions said they'd be. I'm not sure if that is because my truck came with factory trailer set-up and that this product is intended for a truck with out it or not. I bought this to bypass my factory set up because my relays went bad and according to the dealer they are irreplaceable and I would have to change my while fuse box, I guess it's pretty common for I think 2001-2005 dodge trucks might be other years not sure. This worked for me and if you have the same problem I would highly recommend this, it is only a 4 pin connector so no trailer breaks, just brakes lights and turn signals. I will add photos of where the connections were supposed to be according to the instructions and where they are actually at on my truck. One picture will show the converter box and ground, I put them in the General location of where the instructions said the hook ups would be for the t connector.

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

Simple to install with basic hand tools. I purchased one for a 2018 Nissan Rogue for towing a very small and lightweight trailer. Works great. I also purchased one for a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 that has a terrible design flaw with the add on trailer light circuit from factory. This totally bypasses the stock harness, which makes more sense, is simple to install and keeps you away from the dealer for a very costly repair. I am not sure if many Dodge owners are aware of this product. I highly recommend it. As a retired jet engine mechanic, I try to repair or modify for the best logical solution. This harness is one of the times..
I will buy future products from as they sell some great products at good prices..
Thanks

Absolutely no issues with this harness at all. I am amazed at how many Dodge truck owners I have had this conversation with, where they bought and installed it with the same success.

by:

I just got around to putting this on my truck yesterday. I found it to be very easy, almost to the point that it was self explanatory. No question who I'm buying this sort of thing from next time.
This fixed all the issues with my tail lights on the truck and camper. Thanks etrailer guys.

Product was exactly how it was on the website. It connected to my truck perfectly and in very little time. Works great. One thing I would like to have seen was some dielectric grease to put on the connectors. I had some laying around so that was no issue but it would definitely prolong the useful life of the product, especially in areas where corrosion is prominent.

2003 Dodge Ram Pickup

This t-connector from etrailer fixed my problems with my 2003 Dodge Ram's totally dead trailer light connector. Not hard to do. Youtube has video on removing tail lights and I recommend looking at it. It's kind of weird. Locking connectors were perfect fit. My truck had factory tow pkg with corroded trailer wiring relays under the hood, so there was no set of connectors behind the bumper to connect to. That's why you hook up at the taillights. Thank you e-trailer--I'm legal pulling my boat again.

by:

The wiring kit was a breeze to install and worked great up to a month ago. The four wire flat connector did not hold up. I was not getting a good connection all the time. I have been having problems with the brake light working on a consistent basis. I tested the wiring and all is good on the truck and trailer. I just ordered new connectors from e trailer today.

2005 Saturn Relay

after having a problem with relay inside my tipm for right trailer lights it's makes a great bypass and still have my trailer lights just remove fuses for factory connection and using shrink tube seal off factory wiring

by:

Attention owners of Gen 2 Dodge Ram 1500. This can end your trailer light woes. If you done your research, you are well aware of the 3 relays on the bottom of the circuit board in the fuse box that effects your trailer light harness. Of course Dodge says the fuse box must be replaced $$$$. Or you could attempt to replace the relays if you can find them with a lot of work. This harness was the solution for me. Quick install, no soldering and dismantling the fuse box, just up and running with trailer lights in about 30 mins. Very happy!!

by:
2003 Dodge Ram Pickup

Very easy to install with plug and play. No need to run any power wires, just have to attach the provided ground wire to the frame. The converter box has double sided tape to mount to the underbody and included zip ties help secure the wiring. Comes with a flat 4 trailer harness for the truck. I actually spliced in for my 6-7 pin connector.

Your wiring harness C55504 for my Dodge Ram 1500 was the smartest product I have purchased. Dodge trailer wiring had its own circuit which constantly failed and Dodge said is not fixable. You have to replace the entire fuse box. Your "plug and play"harness is easy to install and works great. I finally have all lights working on my trailer. THANKS.

2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

Solid product. The instructions are a bit off for my 2004 2500 ram. The T actually goes in place against the tail lights not at a bumper connection as described in step one. ETrailer delivery time was awesome! The order was processed and packed the same day! Thank you!

by:

I’ve been using my truck towing trailers with the left tail light and blinker out for the last two years dreading buying a PCM to fix the problem found this one night look at online installed in about an hour only because I wired it up to my factory seven pin and it works great would recommend it to anybody

by:
Dodge

Very fast shipping. Product installed very nice. Like many dodge owners that have the dead pin for left turn and brake light, This works very nicely. Saves a ton of money over dodge dealership for new Power Control Module. I tested the flat four connector with a test light after hooking it up and all was fine. Did not hook up to trailer and test as of yet, Don't for-see any problems. I would recommend it.

by:

I can not truely give this a 5 star until i hook this up and see how it works. I will give an update once i do. The shipping was fast and it was packaged well. I have order T connector wiring harnesses in the past from etrailer and always had good luck with there products

The kit took less than 30 min. to install, saved me a small fortune, and a lot of misery. As we say down South, "This is slicker than snot on a door knob."

7/12/2014

Hi Bob H. Saved you a small fortune. Did you use this kit to bypass a problem with factory 7 pin connector? My left turnbrake on 7 pin is not working and Dodge dealer wants $1200 to replace power distribution center fuse box under hood. Thanks in advance for any help.

7/16/2014

If you were to use this T-one wiring harness it would not solve the problem with your current 7-way. When installed behind the taillights this only offers the functions of a 4-way. If the problem is with the truck taillights then the same issue would be seen using this harness. However, if the truck taillights are functioning properly then you could use this harness in conjunction with a 7-way like the # 30717 to bypass your existing 7-way and create a new connection point. Before sending your truck to the dealer for a costly repair you might check the fuses and relays associated with your towing package and make sure they are functional.

This unit has been in regular use since I installed it about a year ago. I tow 8 to 10 thousand miles a year, and reliability is extremely important to me. Ive had exactly ZERO PROBLEMS with this system. Its an excellent product.

2003 Dodge Ram Pickup

This was a very inexpensive alternative to a very expensive problem. In order to repair existing problem, I would have to replace fuse box on my 2003 Dodge Ram. I was quoted prices from 600.00 to 750.00. I spent less than 60.00 and 1 hour to get the same results. Thank you Curt and etrailer.com.

by:

It would not work on a trailer longer than 10'. Waste of money for me. Out of the 7 trailers I own, only one works. The others have no lights, blinkers, or stop lights.

  • 7-Way Trailer Connector and Parts Needed to Install a Brake Controller on a 2003 Dodge Ram
We do have a 7-Way that you can install on your 2003 Dodge Ram that did not come with a factory 7-Way. You will need to use # 37185. There will be a little hardwiring you will need to do to complete the installation. On the truck the brake (blue) wire does not run all the way back to the 4-pole at the rear; it stops at the connector that is located under the drivers side wheel well. In order to finalize the installation you must splice into this wire and continue it back to the plug. You...
