Timbren's Active Off-Road Bumpstops provide off-road enthusiasts with greater control over their vehicle's suspension travel. Using progressive-rate springs means that instead of a hard stop at the end of axle travel, the axle energy will be absorbed when bottoming out, producing smooth, predictable, and quiet axle engagement and disengagement. The progressive rubber springs absorb the harsh jolt at the end of axle travel, giving you a gentle ride the whole time.

Unlike your factory bumpstops, Timbren's bumpstops are constructed of a superior natural rubber compound, ensuring the bumpstops will continue to operate even after a lifetime of off-road abuse. And the steel brackets and disks are lazer cut before they are painted with a durable, long-lasting powder coat finish to ensure protection and long life.

Video Transcript for Timbren Active Off-Road Rear Bumpstops Review

Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the line of Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops. These are gonna have a variety of different vehicle fits and the ones we're looking at today are gonna be for the rear. They also make some fits for the front on certain vehicles so be sure to put your vehicle information into our Fit Guide and get the right set for you because they are gonna have special brackets to fit a variety of different vehicles and be designed specifically for those, but functionally, they're all gonna work in a very similar way. Let's check it out.

Whichever kit you end up going with, generally, this is going to be a very large upgrade to your factory bumpstops. They're typically going to be quite a bit bigger but they're also gonna be stronger. So as you are going off-road or you have a heavy load in the hitch and you need some extra support, this is either going to reduce the movement that your axle has and just help cushion any shock that you're experiencing going down the road, over some bumps or it's just going to provide some extra support so you're not getting such a harsh hit whenever you're going over bumps and don't feel so much shock going down the road. So these are designed with off-road use in mind so it doesn't have to be just towing or with carrying something really heavy in the hitch. Just going off-road and having some extra travel in your suspension going over bumps, these are gonna help provide support and not put so much stress on suspension.

These are gonna have a progressive spring rate and what that really means is the more it compresses the harder it's going to work to help return your vehicle back to its natural ride height. The compound rubber material here is going to be maintenance free, so once they're on you really don't have to worry about them. It's just going to give you some extra support and you don't have to think about airing them up like you would airbags, they're just going to be these. The install process is gonna differ depending on the vehicle you're putting them on. We just did them on this 4Runner and it was really easy.

Overall, they're designed to be a bolt-on installation and will feature brackets to fit your different vehicles and get you the right fit for your own. Now whether you're gonna be using these while towing or with a heavy load in the hitch or just some extra support when you're going off-road to help cushion that axle when it's going up and down and make a smoother ride quality overall, I think it's gonna be a really great addition to the vehicle. For me it's great that they don't have to worry about any maintenance with these. Once they're on, they're good to go and it's gonna give you a lot of upgraded help over your factory bumpstops. And that'll do it for our look at the line of Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops.

Thanks for watching.

Yes I like them except the U- bolts that came with were to short. I bought longer ones and all good now. I've jumped the truck a couple small jumps also offroad a bit and they seem to work well.

by:

Works great, easy to install!!!

by:

These definitely do the job in my xterra whether it’s hooking up a heavy trailer or just stopping the bottoming out these vehicles can experience. Easy install would recommend 100%

by:

Can't wait to pull my RV trailer again and see less squat in the backend of my Raptor!! These are going to make a difference.

by:

Ordered for my 2010 Toyota Tundra. Parts came quickly and had them installed in about 20 minutes. Just needed a good vehicle jack and impact wrench and was very easy. These have greatly reduced the sag when pulling my camper and very satisfied.

by:

The factory bump stops were harsh. These engage sooner and while firm they do not crash like the OEM.
Easy install.

by:

Very easy to install, haven't traveled with trailer yet but will be traveling in April.

by:

These do what they're built to do. I overland a lot so when the truck gets weighed down with gear she tends to squat a little and when I go through bumpy areas the factory stops would slam the frame. No any more with these Active Bump Stops. A much smoother ride and less body roll when cornering.

While towing my boat (2021 Tracker Pro Guide V-175/Mercury 115 ProXS, ~3,200lbs) in my 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium, I noticed a significant rear squat. Additionally, fellow motorists would flag me for “high beaming” when I was not. This squatting in the rear raised the front end and subsequent headlight alignment. After much research and review, I purchased the Timbren SES and installed it. With the vehicle hitch unloaded, the SES rides approximately 1.250” above the rear axel. With the boat loaded onto the hitch, the Timbren SES contacts the axel and holds the load firmly, maintaining a level vehicle. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ride was not greatly effected. Matter of fact, the vehicle rides much better while towing than before installing the SES. With the 3rd row seating in use, and the vehicle full of passengers, the rear passengers complained of a very bumpy ride and I noticed a very rough feel with hard bumps from the rear. After installing the Timbren SES, even with the boat on the hitch and the vehicle fully loaded, my 4Runner remains level and the ride is substantially improved. If you have 3rd row seating and/or plan on towing ANYTHING with your 4Runner, you absolutely need the Timbren SES. Installation is a breeze. Easiest accessory you’ll ever upgrade.

Easy install, Nissan Xterra. Love that it came with all the hardware because I had to knock all existing hardware out with a hammer and chisel. I used four additional washers I had so I could put one inside the frame and one on the bumpstop mount. Etrailer shipped fast and free, bumpstops arrived ahead of schedule. Highly recommend these mounts, night and day difference.

by:

They work well towing a heavey trailer.

by:

Well after used the Chat online with Carol I ordered. Paid for 2 day shipping. Got it in 2 days.

Total install time 1 hour.

by:

I had these on my Tacoma and liked the way they worked so much that I got a set for my new to me Tundra. You don't notice anything until you put a load on the truck. Then you feel more stable under load and don't have to worry as much about the leaf springs. The install was done in 15 minutes

by:

They seem to perform just fine, absorbing bumps and impacts etc. However they collect water like little buckets and the bolts are clearly corroding on the inside of the bumpstops since they have no drainage. Adding a way for water to escape faster than evaporation would be a good improvement to the product!

by:

Work great, save my air bags from getting pinched if I let them get deflated.

My 2013 4runner was squatting in the rear when I coupled my 6X12 motorcycle trailer. I was very happy to have found the Timbren bump stop to simply bolt on and fix the problem. However.....during the installation I noticed I had to use ALL of the adjustment slot on the unit to TRY to center on the rear axle. I oriented the units as far towards the rear as the adjustment would allow.
When I coupled my trailer to the 4runner it correctly forced the Timbren bump stop to contact the axle and this is where the problem is.
The Timbren bump stop CAN NOT be adjusted far enough towards the rear to accomplish a centering on the axle. There is a 25% overhang of the bump stop on the axle front. When I communicated with Timbren about this they said" it's a good installation and it's ok". It is not ok.
Imagine that all of the force of a fully loaded truck will be negotiating curves, potholes, swoops and other hazards of the road at highway speeds. All of this stress is distributed on 75% of the product. It can't work as well as if it was 100% distribution. I felt the product was overpriced to begin with. After paying a premium price I expected a custom proper fit.
I can't recommend this product for Toyota 4runner owners.

Installation was a breeze! Followed the instructions and lifted the truck up using a jack under my hitch, loosened the u-bolts, removed the factory bump stops and installed the timbrens! Took 5 minutes for each side, and 5 minutes to setup and take down setup. 15 minutes max. Very easy to do. I believe I am going to need a 1” spacer as I have 1.5” Icon add-a-leaf packs in order to get them to engage while towing.

by:

easy to install - might want to let installers know you don't need to remove rear tires or jack the vehicle up (safety first!) on the Tundra. Just remove the 3 oem 12mm bolts on each side and replace the itty-bitty oem bump stops with your nice Timbren's (17mm bolt head and nut).

by:

I Install this product on the front and back of my 1994 toyota land cruiser ,I realy like them , we explore the Baja peninsula in MEXICO the off road land is very ruff , this bumpstop realy work . the don't crash in to my diferencial any more

by:

I have had Timbrens on several trucks! I always thought they worked great! I plan on putting these on a new Tacoma, which I will not yet until the end of September so I hope they fit! They are a very good product otherwise I would not use them!

by:

I had no problems with the installation. It only took about 15 minutes to put these on! There is adjustment space on the brackets to let u be able to center product over rear axles. The pictures below show the product installed while my 4 runner is both raised up for installation and after lowering it down. When lowered down and jack removed I have about an inch clearance.

by:

Very effective upgrade and install wasn’t to bad either. Highly recommended! 2003 Toyota Tundra.

by:

Very easy to install.

by:

It only took less then 30 minutes to install, What a big improvement!! Installed on a 2022 Toyota Tacoma Off Road, towing a 2018 Coachman Ultra Lite, 5900 lbs.

by:

These bump stops are amazing, the ensure any contact made with the axle is hardly noticeable. I highly recommend these if your stock bump stops are just rubber covered steel blocks like the ones on my Xterra were.

  • Can I use RoadActive Suspension with Timbren SES on 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor?
Using these two products together is going to be a little bit of overkill, but I spoke with RoadActive Suspension and they mentioned that as long as your current bump stop (which would be replaced by a Timbren system) sits inboard towards the center of the vehicle from the U Bolts and Leaf Springs by about 1/4"-1/2", there shouldn't be any interference with the two components. If you've measured for clearance and have the room, and still wanted to add something like the Timbren SES # TFR1504R...

  • Choosing Between Timbren and SumoSpring Rear Suspension Enhancement On a 2011 Ford F-150 Raptor
To best determine what Timbren or SumoSprings will work best for your 2011 Ford F-150 Raptor it is best to understand you will be using your trucks. The SumoSprings # SS52GR I find are generally the best for most users. These springs have a 1,500lb capacity at 50% compression. They are rated lighter than the Timbren systems you will find below. If you are only occasionally needing the extra support for your suspension I find these are the most forgiving both when loaded and unloaded....
