Video Transcript for Review of Pacer Performance Vehicle Lights - Roof Lamp - PP20-253S

Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at the Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED Truck Cab Light Kit. This is going to give you more visibility out on the road, so that other vehicles can see you as you're coming down the highway, in inclement weather, maybe a heavy rain storm, snowfall, foggy conditions, things like that. It gives you that big rig look, by adding those lights to the top of your cab on your truck. And this is styled after the 2002 through 2006 Chevy and GM factory roof lights. So, it's going to give you one longer light, that'll have three lights inside, and then our two sidelights, with a single bulb each.

Now this is an LED kit, and it comes with those LEDs that will give you that look. This is going to be Amber LEDs with a smoke lens, and that's going to be a great advantage over the incandescent bulbs. It does still come with the Amber bulbs, if you wanted to switch them out for any kind of reason you can, but I would definitely suggest using the LEDs instead, since there's no filaments that will break with these, a lot more energy efficient as well. And typically it lasts a lot longer than your incandescents, but if for some reason, these ever go bad and you need to get in there, it does come with those Amber 1-9-4 style bulbs. These can also be used in a lot of different applications, some side marker lights and different trailers or other things. So, not a bad idea to keep these around for other things, but as far as what else comes in our kit, we'll get a switch so we can operate our lights independent of the rest of our lights on our truck.

You can connect these in to your factory lighting system, if you'd like, so that whenever you turn on your running lights and your headlights, these come on as well, but you can run into some issues with voiding warranties on your truck, so by being able to bypass that we don't have to worry about anything there. We'll also get our wiring, so this is going to have a spade terminal on the end here, the short piece, which also has a fuse. So this will go to one side of our switch and then the other side goes to our battery, and then we'll have a longer length of wire, also at that little spade terminal to go on the other side of our switch, and this actually connects to our lights. The two smaller sidelights are going to use these little pigtails to house the bulbs themselves. So pretty much to get that in there, you'll just take that, turn the shade over and then insert that in, give it a little quarter turn, and now that's housed inside. And then, you'll run your lights to the wire there. That would be one thing that you might end up needing to add in would be maybe a little extra length of wire.

It comes with some splices as well. These do okay, but I would suggest switching these out for something a little bit more permanent, like an insulated butt connector, or even a heat shrink butt connector, especially if this is going to be outside the vehicle where you make that connection. Those just provide a better wiring connection then the quick splices. I've seen a lot of things come back because of this connection getting undone, and it just doesn't hold as well as the insulated butt connectors. You could also solder them, if you feel comfortable with doing that, as well, but quick slices, they do the job and they get you connected quickly.

But for something like this, where it's going to be a hard thing to get in there and replace, I would want to make sure that you never have to mess with it again, so that's just my suggestion there. We do have insulated butt connectors and heat shrink available here at eachdealer.com, they're basically the same thing. The only difference of the heat shrink is that you can, as the name suggests, shrink them down with a heat gun, and then they seal up around that water or wire providing a water tight connection for that. You can find those again here at each trailer, along with lengths of wire. If you want to extend that out and maybe some silicone sealant to seal up the holes that you'd have to drill to get these in place. And yes, you do need to drill into your cab to get this in place for not only mounting the license selves, but then also running that wire into your vehicle. So, a little bit of work required with these, but something that you definitely can do yourself. If you feel inclined, it's a pretty straightforward process. You just want to be cautious and patient whenever you're installing them to make sure that you do everything right the first time. So I'm going to connect up my lights here. I've got the LEDs in our larger piece, so you can get an idea of what that looks like whenever it's turned on. So, make sure I've got all my wires connected, and it looks like two of them come on. The way that these are connected in there, it's just a little contact that the light goes into. So you want to make sure that everything's working before you put this in place. And right now that one is not turning on. So I'm going to just turn that to make sure that I get it to connect. That is one thing again, before you actually get this in place, you want to make sure that everything's working before you tighten it down and seal it down. So those little LED bulbs just fit inside this little housing, and then it just turns into place.Making the connection with the strip on the side and looks like they're turned on. I just didn't have it in there the right way. So now you can see our light is on, I'm going to turn the lights out in my studio so you can get a better idea of how bright that is. So not terribly bright, this isn't meant to light up the night. It's just going to give you that greater visibility on the top of your truck. And our sidelights will look similar to that. So disconnect this guy, connect our side. You'll notice on this housing, there is a little ring terminal for the ground connection, so you'll want to make sure you find a good ground for that as well. So, that's what our single lights will look like there. It does come with the hardware to get everything screwed down in place, and also some rubber washers to seal up that connection, so we don't have to worry about water getting underneath the head of those screws and into our cab. Again, a little silicone sealant. Isn't a bad idea for any of those connections and these little posts. Just go in the bottom of our housing to kind of give those screws something to bite into as they go through the light. So that's where those end up. This does meet SAE specifications. As far as the size of our lights for the longer piece, it's about 15 1/4" long by 5 1/16" wide, and just about 1 3/4" tall. The smaller lights on the side, they are each about 4 11/16" long by 3 5/16", so just over 3 1/4", and then about 1 9/16" tall, or just over 1 1/2". It does have a 60 day limited warranty. Again, it does come with that fuse to make sure that everything's protected, and that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED Truck Cab Light Kit. You can find this in other colors, including Amber and clear lenses right here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Real high quality units. Comes with little gaskets for the screws. The actual gaskets for the lenses are hi quality. I was replacing OE lights so I didn’t need positioning info or templates but the ones in the instructions weren’t that great if that’s what you have to do.

Very well

by:

all i can say is that i recived my order on time and product is what i wanted thank you

by:

Package arrived completely opened on one end, and the container a little tattered, but everything seems to be intact and complete!

by:

fairly quick shipping..my truck has never had lights...but have installed them on every truck I've owned ( 4 ), This is my 5th. Everything was in the box. It even came with little washers for the screw heads. I used silicone just in case. I was very skeptical of the supplied ground wires but they all worked!!.. I decided on the old style bulbs this time. Might switch if they don't last then I will go to the LED's. I used a different toggle switch than the one supplied. Really like the set so far. I have never seen a truck like mine with cab lights. Maybe others will try it now?

by:

Look good on the truck, one of the center lights became loose so it was not making great contact and therefore was out. I got it working again, but it was a hassle taking the light off the truck to just spin the light a little bit.

by:

Great product, I replaced existing lights with these. Hole pattern was exactly the same as my old lights. I had two issues not related to the product. My old lights only had one wire through the cab. They had a jumper wire that went from bulb socket to mounting screw for the light.
As far as replacing existing lights goes, this product is great.
For a complaint, the instructions nor video showed me what the little rubber washers were for. Since there were 10 of these I assumed they were for the mounting screws. I used mine for lens cover screws.
I also used silicone under foam pad, on top of foam pad, on mounting screws, and after install was complete I added it at base of lens and around base of light. All not needed but cant hurt to keep water out.

Definitely reccomend this companies products.

One year on, these lights are holding up very well. Installation was pretty simple, I did have to break out a drill to enlarge the factory holes - I believe the factory lights used sheet metal screws to attach to the top of the cab through the lens and these use a metal stud attached to the light base with a nut that tightens from inside the cab (it's been a year and my memory is fuzzy). Outwards though these lights look completely stock. They sealed well and I've experienced no issues with water leaks. 100% suggest these to anyone wanting to replace or upgrade their stock lights to LED while retained the OE look.

by:

Lights and everything arrived quickly, everything needed was in the packaging. The only thing I did differently was I wired the lights into my existing light switch instead of a separate switch, just bought 16 gauge wire from hardware store. I added some t10 LED lights which look awesome at night! During the day LED or incandescent bulbs are not very visible anyway. Overall awesome product!

by:

The Pacer Performance High-5 lights on my 1992 Ford F350 are high quality. They fit the original screw holes perfectly. The LED lights are bright. The wire connectors were different, but that was no problem. I cut off the connectors and used crimp-on connectors, then taped the connections securely with electrical tape.

by:

After reading not so good reviews on other cab lights I found these and saw nothing but good things about them and when I had them installed I was more than happy with them. I would recommend to anyone wanting to put cab lights on their truck

by:

The cab lights I ordered came in a timely manner and they were oem quality!

by:

They look great! Pretty simple install, everything you need is included and the easy splice makes it even easier to wire everything together. They give you 6, so I just used the last one to tap into my headlights and they turn on automatically whenever those are on. LED’s are pretty bright and that’s what I went with, but they also give you the classic bulbs to choose from as well. 4 stars for now just to see how they hold up!

by:

The lights were purchased as replacement for the existing lights already on the truck, so all the hard work of drilling the holes and running the wiring was already done. What little installation I had to do was fairly easy, and simple. The lights match the originals exactly and you can't tell them apart from the old ones. The package was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged within a few days. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the order and I will be using your company for future purchases and I will definitely recommend your company to other people who need the type of things you supply.

Purchased and installed the cab lights from etrailer.com. Shipped quickly, reasonably priced and a very easy installation. They look great on the truck. There some great write ups on the web explaining how to easily drop the headliner. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Good set of lights , actually need another set. Very happy with them

by:

Bought these lights about a year ago and they look and work great! The lighting makes a perfect red and they are very bright as well, but that can depend on the bulbs you decide to use. Easy installation too!

by:

Great lights looks amazing on my GMC, i could not be happier. I had the installed as no one wants me wiring anything. The LED bulbs are nice and bright. I would recommend these lights to anyone.

by:

I have ordered many times and have always had great experience!!

by:

Lights exactly as described. Package came with both LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs. Easy to install. I watched the installation video which was very helpful. I only installed 4 as my vintage truck has a middle rotating beacon.

by:

The smoked lens look great! On my 2017 black 3500 RAM. Install took about 45 minutes. LED bulbs need to go the right way to work. Shipping was quick, and thanks to Jason and everyone at etrailer for making the ordering process easy.

by:

Straightforward install. Worst part was dropping the headliner. Tapped into the power source at passenger side kick panel in my 97 Ford. Very happy with my purchase.

by:

Had these lights on my truck for a year now and they work great the installation was pretty easy. I installed them on my ram 1500

by:

These have only been on for a few days but they seem to be a very reliable option if your truck needs cab lights. Straight forward install and I was pleased to find out the bases and lenses are molded of a nice poly plastic. I was worried the bases would be weak and flimsy. I ordered two sets, one set for a 2000 f350 that never had cab lights, and a second set for a 2002 f350 that already had cab lights but were aged and weathered. I was able to get my drilling dimensions from one truck and just transfer over to the other. Simply dropped the headliner, marked my holes on masking tape, drilled holes, mounted lights, and ran wiring down to behind my headlight switch tapped into the running lights wire. I did go the extra mile and added some silicone around my bolt and wire holes for a little extra insurance prior to putting the headliner back in place. I was a little intimidated to start with but after all said and done I would have no issue doing this over again on multiple trucks. I'm not a professional mechanic by trade, just handy enough to do my own exhaust, stereo, and lighting installs as well as oil changes etc. These cab lights can be installed by novice wrench turners. etrailer does however need to update their website pictures though. The updated version of these lights have studs molded into the bases so they are held on by a nut and washer from inside the cab. The pictures on etrailer must be a previous version that were fastened by sheet metal style screws screwed in from the topside. Pacer Performance website shows the proper product, etrailer should make that a priority to follow suit and update their literature. The molded studs is a much better design! Kudos Pacer Performance!
