Great product, fast shipping, I had my granddaughter Nevaeh help me, she is working on being a mechanic, so no better way then have her do it, I also told her always try etrailer for her parts first!?

No drill installation on my truck making it a perfect fit. Works as it should.

It came well packaged and easy to assemble. As far as installation goes, it was possible to do by myself, but a second person would have been much appreciated. One of the bolt holes on the passenger side didn't quite line up, but I was still able to get the rest of the bolts in without much difficult. Possibly due in part to a slightly worn frame, but the lockwashers the go inside the frame tended to spin, making the nuts somewhat difficult to get on at first, but a pair of locking pliers helped immensely. One of the bolts on the driver side did end up sticking into the leaf spring, and after a year has worn the bolt down a fair amount, though I haven't noticed any damage to the leaf spring on any of the multiple occasions I have checked. I've only used it a few times (hauling a mower/new plants in a 12' flatbed trailer) in the year that I have had it, but it has done its job well, and has not required any maintenance. Overall a fairly good product, and is certainly worth looking into getting.

2005 Ford F-150

Excellent customer service and high-quality product. This hitch receiver fit perfect and was very easy to install on my 2005 FX4 F150. I didn't have to disconnect the exhaust to install but needed to remove both tires only to torque the bolts to specified limits. Highly recommend this hitch and etrailor supply.

by:

Great product at a great price. All equipment came with excellent directions and all parts needed to assemble the trailer hitch. I towed my 21 foot boat 160 miles and had no issues. I highly recommend Curt Products.

by:

Shipped on time. Box in good shape. Snug fit. Took a bit to put on because I didnt have a floor Jack and had the press it. The only thing that was slightly off were the flanges that bolt to the bumper toe chain holes. Threading the fish wire was a little tricky in two spots but it's on and I'm pleased. Haven't towed my trailer yet but looking forward to it. Didn't want to have to drill holes. Didn't have to.

by:

Took me 40 min to install.I was on my back on the ground just by myself. I was reading the other reviews and theres no way this should take over an hour. I also chose not to touch the exhaust and just left it in place for the installation. I used a bottle jack with a 4x4 on the receiver and then a jack on either end. After it was in place the bolt holes were all pretty much lined up. Very easy to assemble with no problems what so ever. Would definitely recommend this product. DO NOT listen to the other reviews that says it takes hours. As long as you can block it up by yourself it is a very simple project

Excellent product. Fit perfectly even with a bent bumper. Arrived in a couple of days. My only complaint is the poor packaging. The box was all torn up and the hardware bag open and pieces loose. Thankfully the driver picked them up!

This went on pretty easily. Ran into a little hiccup, but a little use of a pry bar and it did the trick. Very satisfied with this purchase.

2005 Ford F-150

If you are doing this job by yourself and at floor level, plan on 4+ hours.
You will need a 2 ft X 4 ft piece of plywood, a floor jack, a bottle jack, 4 jack stands and a large wide blade flat tip screwdriver. The screwdriver is used to help line up the holes so you can get the bolts in. Remove both back tires to give you more room to work.
Maybe the company needs to make a video of a one man, floor level installation. Not everyone has access to all of the nice equipment needed to do the job in 30 minutes. The rating is for the installation instructions. The product is excellent, very well built.

I have the hitch on now for a year and have not had any problems with it what so ever. It is doing the job for me that it was intendant to do. It looks great.

by:

One year in I can say this thing is well built. It is also not too bad of an install but it helps to have a buddy to hold it up while you secure it.

by:

Hitch was just as discribed, Put on by myself in appox. 45 min.. Just wish I had seen the fish wire demo. before starting. I did not have to lower the exhaust for this to fit. Zac please send me etrailer.com decals so i can put them on my hitch to advertise for you. Thanks again for great help with my order. Wayne

2004 Ford F-150

I needed to add a hitch to my new to me 2004 Ford F150 extended cab, long bed truck. After cruising the internet, came back to e-trailer for the no cut 6000lb rated hitch. It is a beast, and for a 67 year old guy installing it, was a little intimidating to do it by myself. I dropped the spare just for room, and made a plywood cradle to roll it into position with a small furniture dollies on the each end, so that the center was open to use a floor jack to raise it. It took a while to get the hitch centered and balanced but once there it raised into position OK. Followed the insertion pattern for the bolts (first at the receiver, and then the others). the fishing wires worked OK, took some finesse to get the first one in, and since this is not at all a new truck, lots of dirt falling off. It was a challenge to torque all the bolts to close to the torque settings, not all that easy to hold the bolts and then torque them at that high a level. Have used it to tow my 3500lb boat and various trailers. Checked torque again on a few bolts with no problems. I would certainly do this installation again, and have had a few folks ask if it was worth it, it was.

2005 Ford F-150

Trailer was delivered without any problems. The product fit well and was easy to install, however there is one hole that doesn’t quite line up. I will need to drill out the remaining hole to put in the last bolt. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase and would recommend.

The part came 3 days early! Couldn't be happier about that. It's nice to have the parts and know you'll be able to do your job for the customer as scheduled. The part came packaged poorly such that it was cosmetically damaged and some of the mounting hardware was missing. Definitely disappointing. The damage was in the area of the part such that mounting on the customer vehicle it would be visible. Not good. The result is that I have 3 days to do a professional repair/repaint on the part. The hardware that went missing was off the shelf nut, bolt and washer such that I can replace it easy. Luckily the "custom" hardware wasn't lost. Overall I will be able to satisfy this customer on time with a good product it just cost me 3 times the labor it should have. My customer will be pleased.

Trailer hitch was excellently manufactured and fit perfectly on my 2005 f-150 truck. Only problem I had was bag of hardware broke open maybe from shipment and was missing some hardware. Called etrailer support and they very helpfully shipped me a new bag of hardware. They made sure I was satisfied and had everything I needed to complete the installation. in just a few business days I had the rest of the hardware and completed the installation with no other problems. Very pleased with etrailer and the trailer hitch. I highly recommend etrailer.

by:

This was a one man job, done with the truck sitting in the gravel drive. It took more than an hour, but less than two. I centered the hitch beneath the truck, then alternately blocked up each side a bit until the hitch was almost in position. It was easy then to bolt the factory chain loop holes to the holes in the top plate. A scissors jack was used to fine tune the height to get the rear hole on the passenger side to line up (that being the easiest bolt to put in--no fishing). I installed the bolts finger tight on the passenger side then went to the driver's side. There I had a bit of trouble--the rear bolt hole didn't line up very well with the frame hole. I installed the bolt in the front hole and then went to work with a drift pin to align the remaining hole with one hand, and tighten the front bolt with the other hand. Not easy when working on you back. If the truck had been on a lift or I had another person to help this wouldn't have been a problem, so I can't knock the hitch for that.
It was the fishwire that caused the most problem. First, I couldn't get the two pieces separated. That took me 20+ minutes. There is probably an easy way, but in 40+ years of DIY I've never had to use a fishwire, so it was all new to me. As was getting the wire off the bolt later. I'm glad there were two pieces included because I needed both.
Another issue was the threads on the bolts. On several the threads had gotten nicked, probably in shipping. From past experience I've learned to check that nuts spin on easily so that I can get them finger tight. I had to use a wrench to spin the nuts on, but after I backed off the nuts they did go on easily when I was working under the truck.
I didn't do anything with the rear exhaust. As noted in another review it is one long piece and probably wouldn't have moved much anyway. And I wasn't sure that I could get the fastener loose. Why create a problem? As it was, by gradually raising the hitch as I did it slid into place without any problem.
I did remove the spare. I don't think that I would have had to do so, but it has been some time since I checked the air pressure, and I like to drop the tire every so often just to make sure that nothing is rusted in place. So this was a good time to do that.
The bumper hitch was much too high for my trailer--everything would slide to the rear end, at times making the truck difficult to handle as the tongue tried to lift the rear end of the truck. This hitch was the ideal solution because I didn't have to remove the vibration dampener, not did I have to drill holes.

The hitch took me almost an hour to install. I was working on the ground using a floor jack. I didn't know I would need a 15/32 deep socket to tighten down the bolts. But that's ok. The wire thing for the bolts were very helpful getting them into position in the holes on the frame. Hopefully now I can use my utility trailer to haul trash and stuff. Planning on getting a hitch for our '99 Ford when I get the money. I would consisder this a good investment and would tell my friends.

by:

not hard at all to put on. took my time installing about 1 1/2 hours and that was stopping and having a couple of beers. my advice to anyone installing READ INSTRUCTIONS, and use a floor jack and a short 2x4 to raise and hold hitch up. only thing i wish would of been for the 2 fish wires to have been packed separate. they were a little aggravating to get apart. over all it was a piece of cake to do and looks good on truck.

by:

excellent products. Both the hitch and the brake box. Videos extremely helpful. I am enjoying my camping trips. You guys are the number one professionals. Thanks for the followup email a year later. Not many companies care after the sale. Kudos to etrailer!

2004 Ford F-150

Great fit on a '04 F150. Didn't need to drop the exhaust or spare. Working on my own it took about an hour to get it all done and most of that was figuring out where to place my jack and a 2x4 to lift it into position. The only annoyance I had was separating the fish wire springs. They are wound together and are pretty fragile.

It looks great and wasn't' super frustrating to install would buy another Curt hitch when I need one.

by:
2005 Ford F-150

I don't understand how it can take anyone 4 hours to install this hitch (according to some reviews). I installed it in 30 minutes just like the instructions said. I didn't even remove the spare tire or lower the exhaust pipe. The hitch fit my 2005 F-150 perfectly, all holes aligned, no problems with the fish wire, and had no problem installing it without any help. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good quality hitch.

  • What Replacement Hitch do You Recommend for a 2005 Ford F-150?
I have a great solution for you. In order to replace your factory hitch on your 2005 Ford F-150, you need to purchase and install an aftermarket bumper. This is because the OEM hitch on a 2005 Ford F-150 tie into the factory bumper while our aftermarket hitches do not. Once the factory bumper is replaced, you will be able to install a replacement hitch. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 13357. • Replacement For Rusting Factory Trailer Hitch on 2004 Ford F150
The factory hitch on your vehicle is integrated into the factory bumper mounting brackets, so removing the OEM hitch will result in losing your bumper. My contact at Curt tells me that he also had an early 2000's F-150, and he ended up having to go to a junkyard to obtain bumper brackets from a F-150 that didn't have a factory hitch.
