Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Class II Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Kia Sorento

Hey everyone, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2019 Kia Sorento, I'm gonna walk you through how to install the Draw-Tite Class Two Trailer Hitch Receiver. This is what our hitch is gonna look like when it's installed. You can see part of the cross tube is visible, however, it's round, it's nice and tucked up close to the vehicle so it really doesn't take away from the look. Being a class two, it's gonna be a lot of different options, maybe you wanna, maybe you have some bikes, you're talking about getting a bike rack 'cause you're tired of loading them in inside the vehicle. You really don't want to want them up on your roof, it's gonna make it easier to put a bike rack on the back.

Maybe a cargo carrier, get some cargo from inside, put it on the outside and make a little bit more room for your passengers. Maybe you just wanna bring a couple of extra things with you, or maybe you want to pull a small trailer, this hitch is gonna allow you to do all that. The hitch is gonna be a steel construction black powder coated finish. It's gonna have an inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube opening, hitch pin hole is gonna be half inch in diameter. You're gonna take a half inch hitch pin and clip, pin and clip does not tell them the hitch, however they can be found here at etrailer as well.

Rolled steel safety chain loops, you can see very large openings, so it will accommodate different size safety chain hooks. Now I'm gonna give you a few weight capacities and measurements to help you when deciding on any of those hitch mounted accessories, again, like your bike racks, ball mounts, and cargo carriers. From the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost part of your fascia, you're gonna be about five inches. Keep that number in mind for any of your hitch mounted accessories, like bike racks and cargo carriers that are gonna fold up, you wanna make sure you're not going to make contact. From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube opening, it's gonna be about 12 inches.

Keep that number in mind for any of your hitched mount accessories that may require a little bit more ground clearance. As far as our weight capacities go, we're gonna have a 350 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. So make sure when you're loading cargo carriers, bike racks, or even pulling that trailer, make sure you're not gonna exceed that. We're gonna have 3,500 pound gross trailer weight, which is the trailer plus the load included. I always recommend checking the owner's manual of the vehicle, make sure the vehicle can withstand that amount of weight, you're gonna go to the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch.

And now we've gone over some of the features, let's walk you through how to get it installed. To start your installation, you're gonna lower your spare tire. You can use this pin right here to lower it, and we're gonna come over to our passenger's side. You have this panel, take a plastic, I'm sorry, a trim panel tool or screwdriver. We're gonna have some push pin fasteners that we need to remove. Pull down the center and then the base will come out. Up here on the inside, we're gonna have two plastic nuts, so the nuts are not gonna come off., all you're gonna do is spin them as your kind of pull them down and that will release those. We'll use a 14 millimeter sockets. And then we'll set this aside. We're gonna take a strap, we're gonna hook it from anywhere, I like go from the springs 'cause it's easy to get to, and we wanna make sure you're going underneath your exhaust. We need to lower our exhaust, we're gonna have hanger here, and we're going to have a hanger here. And you're gonna have a third hanger on the outside of the exhaust right here. What we're gonna do is we're gonna spray the pin for our hanger with some lubricant, you can use soapy water. We'll take a pry bar, and we're gonna pry the rubber hanger off of that then. We're gonna repeat that for the other two. On each frame rail, you're going to have a rubber plug, you need to remove each of those. And we're going to take some spray lubricant, and we're gonna spray it up into the bottom two weld nuts on the bottom of the frame rail on each side. We'll take a nylon tube brush, and we're gonna clean out those threads. Once we get them clean, you wanna take one of your bolts and you want to be able to hand thread it in place. If you can't hand thread it in, you need to clean it out until you can. You're gonna have a little pin that sticks out the body panel. On each side, on the inside of the frame rail, it may get in the way of your hitch going into place. If you just grab it or take a screwdriver, or pry bar, and bend this, you'll be able to get it out of the way. This one just popped off, and as well as the other side. On our driver's side, we're gonna have two long hex bolts like this. You're gonna put a conical tooth washer on, make sure the teeth are facing away from the head of the bolt. Once we slide our hitch into place, these two holes are gonna go from the outside like that. On the passenger's side, you're gonna put on this black washer, flat washer, and it's gonna go from the inside out. With an extra set of hands, we'll go over our exhaust on our passenger's side. We're gonna take our hardware, that I've just described, and we're gonna slide the two on the driver's side, then on the passenger's side, and that will hold our hitch up while we install our remaining hardware. On the inside, we're gonna put on a conical tooth washer on our driver's side here, followed by a nut On the passenger's side, we're gonna use the same combination of hardware, except it's gonna be on the outside of the frame rail. We're gonna come back with our small hex bolts, conical tooth washer, make sure the teeth are facing up towards the hitch, and these are gonna go into the bottom of the frame rail. We'll have two for each side. We're going to come back and tighten our hardware down, we're going to use a five-eighths socket on the lower ones. We're gonna come back with a three-quarter inch wrench and socket, and we'll tighten down the bolts running through the frame rail. Then we'll come back and we'll torque all of our hardware to specifications in the instructions Keep in mind, your bottom two bolts are gonna be different torque specs than your top two, so just pay attention to that in the instructions. Now your instructions tell you to go ahead and just reinstall this panel, however, the bolt towards the front on the driver's side is gonna hit this panel right here, and it's not gonna allow this fastener to go back in there. So, what you're probably gonna have to do is either put a hole there, so it slides over top of the bolts head, or just cut a little section out of it, and then you can reinstall it. Our customer chose not to, so we're not gonna be reinstalling it. Once you have all your hardware torqued down, go ahead and reinstall your exhaust or in reverse order from the way you took it off. Reinstall your spare tire, remove your strap, and you're ready to go. That's gonna do it for look at and installation on the Draw-Tite Class Two Trailer Hitch Receiver, on a 2019 Kia Sorento..

This trailer hitch receiver fits perfectly on our 2017 Kia Sorrento. I installed it at home without having to jack the vehicle up. Took about 3 hours total. Works great

The rack looks good and fits good but the 4 #7 screws are just a hair too big and I am unable to tighten them I will have to go to the store and get smaller ones

Your review did not quite sound like it matched to the installation of the hitch. Was this review on the hitch?

Yes the short screws were too wide and I couldn’t screw them in

What I recommend is cleaning out the bolt holes using a wire brush and spray lubricant as a lot of time road debris can build up in it, even within a few years time. Often cleaning out the holes will help the bolts to fit properly. I have included a FAQ below that can help to explain in more detail.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Fit for 2020 Kia Sorento SX
The Class II Draw-Tite # DT66MR is compatible with all models of the 2020 Kia Sorento, including your SX model. I'd recommend going with a Class III hitch which uses the more common 2 inch receiver size which has a higher capacity and is also compatible with many more hitch mounted accessories. Typically, there's isn't much of a price differential between a Class II and III hitch, so there's really no reason not to go with the more common size. I'd recommend the Curt Class III hitch,...

If you are looking for a Class II hitch for your 2020 Kia Sorento SX Prestige X-Line, you will need the Draw-Tite # DT66MR. This is a Class II custom fit 1-1/4" hitch that is rated up to 3,500 pounds towing and 350 pounds of tongue weight. This looks to be the max capacity for your vehicle if it came equipped with front wheel drive. This will also require no drilling for the install and I included an install video for you to check out. If you have a rear wheel drive vehicle though, you...
