Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Dodge Caravan

Today on this 2005 Dodge Caravan, we're going to be installing Curt Hitch part number 12362. Before we get started with the installation, we're going to go ahead and show you a couple of final installed dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 12 inches, and from the center of the pinhole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure right at 2 1/2 inches. And now I'll go ahead and move on to installation. Ok, we're up underneath the vehicle here and we're going to go ahead and point out the mounting holes we're going to be using to attach the hitch to the vehicle. Starting over here on the drivers side, you can see we've got two existing bolts here.

We will be removing the rearmost one and using that weld nut as the first attaching point. If you follow forward, there's an oblong hole here that will be our second and middle attaching point. And if you follow even further up, you could see we've got an existing round hole right here, and that will be our third and final attaching point. And thats' going to be the same one with the passenger side of the vehicle as well. So the first thing we're going to do is go ahead and remove the rearmost bolts on both sides of the vehicle.

With that bolt removed, we'll go ahead and fish wire the carriage bolt and block assemblies into the frame for the middle and forward most attaching points. At each one of these attaching point, we'll be using this carriage block and carriage bolt. And we'll also be using the provided bolt leader to fish wire inside the frame. And what we'll be doing is taking the threaded end of the bolt leader and we'll fish it through out through the end of the frame. So I'm going to start with the forward most hole.

We'll next go and take the block and slide it on the bolt leader followed by the carriage bolt and we'll wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt inside the frame and down into place. We'll go ahead and repeat that for the middle attaching point. Ok, go ahead and repeat that for the passenger side of the vehicle, and then we'll go ahead and put the hitch up into place. We're going to fasten the hitch to the carriage bolt using the flange hex nuts. And then into the weld nuts, we're going to be using the new 12mm bolt along with the conical tooth washers that are provided with the installation kit.

And then again go ahead and repeat that for the passenger side and then we'll go ahead and start tightening our bolts up. And now that we've got all the bolts in place, we just want to go through now and torque each one of the bolts down. We want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. And then with all the bolts torqued down, the installation is complete. That will conclude the installation of Curt Hitch part number 12362 on a 2005 Dodge Caravan.

Ordered a Curt trailer hitch receiver to mount on a 2003 Dodge Caravan to pull an old Scamp trailer. Came promptly, installed easily and works well.

Needed a hitch on my 2000 Chrysler T&C minivan, and this bolted right on!! Took about 60 min. to install, but very straightforward and simple. Fast shipping and great customer service!! Thank you!!

by:

Chrysler Town&Country LX (no stow and go seats).

The shipment was fast! No issues with the delivery as well. The installation process was easy (a second pair of hands is really needed).
I'm going to use the bar to carry bicycle rack and I was worried if there is enough space for bicycles. It turned to be more than enough - more than 10 cm from the bike's handles to the rear glass.
I have Swagman XTC-2 bike rack.

That's my second purchase from e-trailer. I was happy the first time and I'm happy again.

Regards,
Sergey.

Clever design. On a 1 to 10 for difficulty of install, 7. But a perfect fit in a challenging location, and it came with some clever tools to assist the installation. I like it very much

2006 Chrysler Town and Country

Got exactly what I ordered and was very pleased with the phishing wires included with the required bolts and pins. This allowed me to do it myself, relatively easy. All hardware was there to complete the job myself. Thanks!

by:

I ordered one with a 2” receiver and received one with a 1”. Pretty difficult to get mounted up definitely not as easy as said from store. Fits perfect thought.

I found the link for the custom hitch quickly, order process was easy (good payments options, too!), and got the product the same week. There were specific instructions online (video) and included with the product. It installed easily, and fit perfect; I'm very pleased with the entire experience.

  • Troubleshooting Low Ball Mount Ground Clearance on a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country
The Curt Class II Trailer Hitch, part # C12362, is the correct trailer hitch for your 2003 Chrysler Town and Country and the ball mount, part # C45521, is the recommended ball mount for that hitch. It is perfectly safe to turn the ball mount upside down to gain more ground clearance. This is called using the ball mount in the rise position. It is recommended for your vehicle to use this ball mount in the rise position since the trailer hitch is low to the ground. I do not recommend...

  • Replacement Hardware Kit for Hitch on 2005 Dodge Caravan
In order to get replacement hardware for your hitch on a 2005 Dodge Caravan without the Stow-N-Go seats you'll want to use part # RHK and in the field marked "Hitch Item Number" you'll want to put the part number of the hitch you have. There are 4 possible hitches for your Caravan, but you can narrow that down to 2 by the size of the receiver. You'll want to use one of the following part numbers. 2" Hitch- Curt # C13362 or Draw-Tite # 75119 1-1/4" Hitch- Curt # C12362 or Draw-Tite # 36296 If...

The easiest Class II, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver to install on your 2005 Dodge Caravan without Stow-N-Go seating is from Draw-Tite: - Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36296 The # 36296 is the easiest to install because it is does not require any drilling on your '05 Caravan, unlike the Curt Trailer Hitch # C12362 that also fits your '05 Caravan. • Fitment of Hitch for 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan
We have the part you need but, the Curt # C12362 and # 13389 are the proper part numbers for a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan and these will not fit a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan.
