Video Transcript for Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Infiniti G35

Speaker 1: Today in our 2007 Infinity G35X, we're going to take a look at showing you how to install the Curt class one trailer hitch receiver, part number C11499. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. You can see the only thing noticeable gonna be your receiver tube. This is gonna be a class one, inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube. Hitch pin hole's gonna be half inch in diameter. It has a nice, looped style safety chain rings.

You got plenty of room for a different size safety chain hooks. Gonna have a reinforced collar, gives you extra stability on your receiver tube. As you can see, it's nice and tucked in back behind the bumper. You're not gonna worry about hitting your shins or your legs on it. It's also gonna come with its own pin and clip.

Now this hitch is gonna have a 200 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. It's gonna have a 2,000 max trailer weight, which is gonna be a trailer plus the load included. Now, I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure you're vehicle can withstand that amount of weight and you're gonna wanna pick the weight that's the lowest between the hitch and the vehicle. Now, Curt does require the use of stabilization straps running non-trailered loads. Now, this hitch is gonna come with all hardware to get it installed. Now, I'll go give you a couple measurements to help you when deciding on any hitch mounting accessories you may need such as a bike rack or cargo carrier.

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most part of the bumper will be about two inches. From the ground to the top, inner most part of the receiver tube will be about ten and a half inches. Now, it's a good idea to get a raise shank for better ground clearance. Now, I'll show you how to get this installed. To begin our installation, we're gonna need to remove this black panel on the bottom of our vehicle. We're gonna two pushpins.

We're gonna have a few bolts that we're gonna have to remove. To remove the pushpin, we're just gonna use flathead screwdriver. We're just gonna slowly pop the pin out. We're gonna also be using a trim panel tool. Next, we're gonna take a 10 millimeter socket. We're gonna have two nuts and three bolts we're gonna have to remove. We're just gonna set this aside to be reinstalled. Now, the next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna take some black liqui-tape and we're gonna right down here at the bottom of our license plate before we remove the license plate. Now what this is doing is we are going to have to drill holes to remove a plate to put our hitch up and we wanna make that the holes stay underneath the license plate. And when we put our plate back on, it'll cover them. This inaudible 00:02:44 as a marker so we know where the bottom of our license plate is. Once you get your line, you can go ahead and remove your license plate. So the next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna measure from the center of this hole to the center of this hole. You can see, we're about three inches. So now we're gonna take a paint marker and we're gonna transfer that measurement up here. So we're gonna go from center of this hole and we'll go down three inches to get our next hole. Next what we're gonna do is we're gonna take a hole saw and we're gonna drill out two holes right here to access the bottom holes. Now you can use an inch. I wouldn't go over an inch and an eighth. You wanna make sure we're staying above our line. This is what we we're trying to access. We're gonna do the same thing on our driver side. Next thing we're gonna is we're gonna take a 12 millimeter socket and we're gonna remove these four bolts. Next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna remove that plank that we just took the bolts out of and what we're gonna have to do is we're gonna have to pry it off. Gonna have a couple of aluminum weld spots. So, we're just gonna take a pry bar. We're gonna set this aside to be reinstalled.Next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna find the center of our vehicle down here on the bottom of our bumper fascia and I'm just gonna put a little dot right there. Now, we're gonna measure per the instructions and we're gonna cut this out for our hitch. Next, I'm just gonna take a rotary tool with cutting blade. You can use a knife if you want to. A razor blade knife. I'm gonna take some rubbing alcohol. Let's wipe of the access paint marker. Next thing we'll do is we'll go ahead and put our hitch into place. Now, there's gonna be a bracket right down here on the bottom. We're gonna have to go up on top of that. So, if you get in the side, slide your hitch over the top and you wanna be on top of this tow hook here. Next what we're gonna is we're gonna take our carriage bolt and we're gonna put it through this hole from the top side and it's gonna drop down through our tow hook. And we're gonna take our large fascia block, put it on the bottom and we'll take a inaudible 00:05:34 nut and put it on following our fascia block. Now with our hitch loosely installed, we can put out fascia spacer back in place. Now, we're gonna be using the same hardware that we removed to put everything back together. Once you get your bracket here lined up with the top of your bumper beam, go ahead and tighten everything up. Now, I'll be using a 19 millimeter socket. We'll go ahead and tighten this down. Next, we'll torque everything down to specifications in the instructions. Now what we're gonna do is our black underbody fascia here. We're gonna loosely set it into place and we gotta mark so it'll fight around the plate of our hitch. What we gotta do, we gotta measure out the width. Next, we'll pull back down and we're gonna measure per our instruction back this way. Yeah. We'll just take a rotary tool with a cutting blade or you can use a razor knife. Next take some rubbing alcohol and we'll just wipe off the access paint. Now we can reinstall our underbody fascia.Go ahead and put in this back bolt here and hold it in place. And then we'll reinstall all of our existing hardware. And that'll do it for the Curt class one trailer hitch receiver, part number C11499 on our 2007 Infinity G35X.
