Audio: Today, on our 2014 Subaru Impreza, we are going to be installing the Curt trailer hitch receiver, part# C11286. Here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now, we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground, you have 10.5". From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper, we have 2.5". Now, let's go ahead and install our hitch. Let's begin our installation by pointing out the mounting locations that we'll be using to install our hitch to the vehicle's frame. There's a total of 4 mounting locations, 2 on each side. There will be one right here as well as one right here.
Now, let's go ahead and point them out over here on the passenger side. It will be the same locations so we'll have one right here and one right here. Now that we've gone ahead and pointed out the mounting locations, we'll go ahead and remove the rubber plugs from each of the 4 locations. Next, let's go ahead and point out the hardware that we'll be using for the rear mounting location on each side. The hardware that we'll be using is a 7/16" carriage bolt and a 7/16" square-hole spacer block, so it will look just like this. Once our hardware is in the vehicle frame, we'll be putting a 7/16" flange nut under the carriage bolt. To install the carriage bolt and the square-hole spacer block into the vehicle's frame, we'll be using a 7/16" pull wire or bolt leader to do that. We'll be using forward mounting location to install the hardware into the vehicle's frame.
You may need to enlarge this hole slightly to install the hardware into the vehicle's frame. The forward mounting location hardware will consist of a 1/2" carriage bolt, square-hole spacer block that looks like this. This will be installed in the vehicle's frame, and then, we'll install a round-hole spacer block in between the vehicle's frame and the hitch followed by a 1/2" flange nut. Again, to install the carriage and square-hole spacer block into the vehicle's frame, well be using a 1/2" bolt leader this time, and we'll be using the reverse pull wire method. Now, as we pointed out earlier, our hardware will not currently fit in thought he forward mounting location or access hole here. So, we're going to need to open up the hole a little bit. In order to do that, we are either going to use a round-file bit on our drill, we can use a hand file, or you can use a rotary tool with the appropriate bit. We are going to go ahead and use our round-file bit on our drill as well as the hand file to clean it up a little.
Now, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passenger side for enlarging the access hole. We'll go ahead and install all of our hardware into the vehicle's frame. We're going to start with the rear most mounting locations on each side. We'll take our 7/16" fish wire, we'll take the coiled end, we'll go through the mounting location, we'll come out the forward mounting location, feed our spacer block on followed by the 7/16" carriage bolt, push the both back up into the vehicle's frame, and pull down into position. We'll go ahead and repeat this process over on the passenger side as well. Next, we're ready to install the forward mounting location hardware for each side. For the forward mounting location, we'll be using the reverse pull method.
We'll take our 1/2" pull wire, put the square-hole spacer block on, feed the 1/2" carriage bolt on, put the carriage bolt into the frame followed by the spacer block, we'll then pull back down into position. Go ahead and repeat this process over on the passenger side. Now, it's a good idea to get a extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position. When you are raising the hitch up into position, don't forget that you need to add the round-hole spacer block in between the vehicle's frame and the trailer hitch on the forward mounting location for each side. Now that we have all the hardware installed and just hand-tightened down, we can go ahead and finish tightening down all the hardware and then torque it to the manufacturer's specification. That'll do it for the installation of the Curt trailer hitch receiver, part# C11286, on our 2014 Subaru Impreza.Video: etrailer.com etrailer.com Part number: C11286 etrailer.com 10-1/2" etrailer.com 2-1/2" etrailer.com etrailer.com Part number: C11286 etrailer.com expert SERVICE fast SHIPPING lowest PRICES 800.298.8924.
