Roadmaster Tow Bar Base Plate - 4414-1

  • Roadmaster
  • Removable Draw Bars
  • Hitch Pin Attachment

The crossbar-style hidden brackets attach to your vehicle's frame to provide attachment points for your tow bar. The visible portions of the brackets can be removed when you are not towing.

Features:

  • Hidden bracket design - drawbars are easily removable via 2 pins
    • Improved aesthetics compared with standard brackets
  • Computer-cut, all-steel construction provides exceptional strength
  • Black powder coat finish is durable and corrosion resistant
  • Simple installation - no welding required
    • Custom base plates ensure a perfect fit for your vehicle
  • Compatible with Roadmaster tow bars with use of quick-disconnect crossbar (910021-00 - sold separately)
  • Instructions and mounting hardware included
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

The square drawbars, or front arms, on the crossbar-style base plate kit are simple to mount and remove, easily securing with hitch pins. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets are virtually invisible. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE SELLING THIS BASE PLATE ! ! !
THe vehicle it is made for SHOULD NOT be towed ! Even the the manufacturer Ford "says" that it can be towed in the owners' manual - THEY LIE ! And etrailer by offering this product are perpetuating that lie and misguiding your customers. Check the forums -for verification of WHAT I AM TELLING YOU

I looked up the vehicle manual for a 2010 Ford Escape and it does allow for flat towing with all 4 wheels on the ground. It must be taken to an authorized dealer to check for the proper transmission fluid level.

Received the base plate kit and installed it with no problems, works great and I want to thank you for a great product.

Plug and Play!
No major hassles installing
this bar; it fit the frame perfectly. It arrived well packaged. All necessary hardware was included; no missing pieces. The instructions were fairly clear and pictures were in color, a great help. There are enough etrailer videos online to review on how to install to boost your confidence.

Minor gripe - you have to drill one ½" hole through a support on both sides, although it's made easier by being able to use the bar as a template and you don't have to be under the vehicle to do it. Just be sure you have a drill motor/bit combination that will allow you to drill a hole this size.

Bottom line - if you're handy with tools you shouldn't have any major problems installing this yourself. I set aside a full day to do this, but finished in about 4 hours.

When I called etrailer with my order, we discovered that the Roadmaster Combo Kit with straight cables and wiring was out of stock. Katie called Roadmaster to find out when it would be shipped, but it was longer than I wanted to wait. She suggested coiled cables which could be shipped with my Base Plate Kit so I ordered that.

I got exactly what I needed/ordered and it arrived in less than 48 hours! Everything arrived in good shape in 2 boxes right on my front porch. Great prices, great service and great delivery!

2009 Ford Escape

Although it has taken me several weeks to install on my Ford Escape XLT, it actually arrived very quickly.. If you have minimal skills like I do, you can still install this yourself. It took me about 6 hours. The only glitches I found in the directions was the location of the ambient temperature sensor and the need to cut down part of the air foil. Due to the location of the sensor, I did not need to do anything with it and it was not necessary to make any cuts. Neither caused me any distress. The biggest challenge was having to enlarge a couple of holes and " fish" bolts through them due to the lack of welded nuts as indicated in the directions. If you lack the tools and/or know how to do these jobs, it might be better to have someone install it for you.

by:
2012 Ford Escape

Everything was shipped promptly and the base plate fit and was easy to install. I was able to pull my car behind my motor home with out any problems.

by:

The installation had a couple of small problems. The tabs on the back of the grill contact the main cross bar of the base plate and prevent the grill from droping fully into place. Removing 1/4" from the tabls solved that problem. There were no weld nuts for the bottom 2 bolts on each side so I enlarged the bottom hole and fish wired the bolts into place. Tim

I was pulling my truck using the roadmaster crossbar and to my surpass the towbar broke in half as I was towing. Good thing I was in town only going 20 miles poer hr.

by:

etrailer service is and has always been stellar. My order was correct and was delivered very quickly. The only reason I made this a four instead of a five was that the rear bolt position of both base plate brackets where welded on crooked. Each small plate was at a different angle from each other. In my opinion whoever welded them wasn’t paying attention to quality control. Because I was on a time crunch for my departure on a trip and could not wait for replacements (and I needed the vehicle for local driving) I made the brackets work. Other than that the installation went smoothly and I was able to test tow my 2004 CRV a couple of times without incident.

by:

Base Plate kit was complete and generally straight forward to install. Some instructions and dimensions were not explained in detail as they could have been. Especially the modifications made to the air dam were totally off. Most of the air dam is cut off to fit in front of the base plate. This was installed on a 2014 Chevy Captiva four cylinder car.

by:

Very impressed that they're the exact fabbed fit, and easy to install! These tow base plates are super sturdy!

by:

Item arrived earlier than predicted after viewing a very complete tracking system. The information was very clear and precise. Good job! I am 75 years of age and installed the baseplate myself. Only a couple of minor issues. One pin would not insert. Welding blob in the way. Filed it smooth and problem solved. The video was excellent but was a bit different in that it showed a different method o rear bolt installation, however the instructions on paper showed the correct way. Reinstalling the front clip had presented some difficulty. I suggest really watching the inner fender position relative to the front clip before removal. All said all went well. The finished look is great, (see pictures). Great product!

by:

Quick and easy install. Did not need to drill any holes.
Installed this base on a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker ZR-2.
Highly recommend this towing base.

by:

Item arrived very quickly. It appears to be of excellent quality. The salesman that helped me was very good and had very good knowledge of the product. The installation instructions were a bit vague, but I was able to figure them out. The price of the item was a bit higher than I was expecting.

by:

Highly recommend E-Trailer for all of your towing accessories. Great product, great customer service!!

by:

I've towed with it many times and Zero problems. I did find that moving the car slightly forward after stopping helps relax tension amd.make.disconnect much easier. Overall... I'd say SUPER..!!

by:

Timely receipt and the installation was accomplished easily after watching the video.

by:

Looks great installed. I think it will work perfectly for towing my F150 4x4. Took approximately 1 hrs. I removed the bumper, 4 bolts, and installed effortlessly. Nice appearance!

Just completed a 6600 mile rod trip, towing the Subaru behind a motor home.

Worked great.

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2011 Ford Escape Behind a Motorhome
To flat tow your 2011 Ford Escape will require you to first install a base plate kit on the vehicle. For that the Roadmaster XL Base plate kit part # 4414-1 would be the correct place to start. In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. I'm happy to hear that you are pleased with your Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 4414-1 on your 2010 Ford Escape! The driver and passenger arms that you mentioned are what you mount the crossbar of the tow bar like the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-576 to as seen at the 3:25 minute mark in the included video. This allows you to mount the crossbar to your vehicle, but still be able to remove it when you are not flat towing by simply pulling the pins on the two...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2011 Ford Escape Behind Motorhome
It sounds like you have Roadmaster motorhome-mounted tow bar and need compatible base plates for your 2011 Ford Escape. The two Roadmaster base plate kits we have for your Escape, kits # 4414-3 and # 4414-1, use a hitch-pin attachment system for securing their draw bars. The Blue Ox base plates # BX2605 use the twist-lock type. These three base plate products are shown on the linked page. Safe and legal flat towing requires a number of components in addition to the tow bar and base plates....

  • Base Plate Recommendation for a 2011 Ford Escape Using a Falcon 5250 Tow Bar
For your 2011 Ford Escape, I would recommend using the Roadmaster XL Base Plates, # 4414-1. These base plates are compatible with the Falcon tow bars without requiring the use of an adapter. If you are using your Falcon tow bar from an older application, you may also need the Quick Disconnect Base Assembly, # 910021-00. This base comes with the tow bars, but they are often left or sold with the previous vehicles. After doing some research on your vehicle, I found that Ford does place...

  • Is an Adapter for Roadmaster 5000 Tow Bar to Blue Ox Base Plates Available?
Unfortunately an adapter is not available to use your Roadmaster 5000 tow bar with Blue Ox base plates. You would need to replace either your tow bar or the base plates. For base plates that fit your 2010 Ford Escape, I recommend the Roadmaster XL # 4414-1, and for a tow bar I suggest taking a look at the Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380. I've added a link to a video review of this tow bar for you, as well as a link to each of our Blue Ox tow bars.

  • Recommended Base Plate, Tow Bar and Accessories for Flat Towing 2010 Ford Escape XLT AWD
According to my research, the vehicle will require the installation of a transmission lube pump before it can be flat towed without damaging the transmission. I'd encourage you to confirm this for yourself. Once the vehicle has been declared safe to be flat towed, you can install the base plates, part # 4414-1. Then, you'll need a tow bar. The Roadmaster Falcon 2, part # RM-520 would be an excellent choice. The tow bar would stow on the RV when the hitch is not being used. If you don't...

  • Parts Needed to Setup a New Motorhome and 2012 Ford Escape 2WD for Flat Towing
According to Ford, the 2012 Ford Escape should not be flat towed, but I did a bit more research on towing the 2012 Ford Escape front wheel drive and found that it is possible if you install a transmission lube pump kit according to Remco Industries, a lube pump provider. You should confirm the towability and pre-tow procedures for your vehicle with your owners manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for towing instructions. We do not carry transmission lube pumps at this time. The base...
