Today on our 2005 GMC Sierra, we will be installing the Stromberg Carlson 100 Series 5th wheel tailgate with open design, and that's part number VGM-99-100. We will begin our installation with the tailgate down, and then raise it up slightly so we can use a flathead screwdriver to pry the tab for the side cable away, and detach the cable from the truck. We will do this on both sides. On the passenger side, we can then lift the tailgate out of it's hinge, and with an extra set of hands completely remove our tailgate. Next, we'll set the new tailgate into place. Our Stromberg Carlson tailgate comes with latches that will need to be installed on both passenger and driver side.
We can use the included hardware to install the latches into the precut sections on both sides. We will also want to fit the rubber stoppers onto our latches at this time. Now we will attach the included rings to our latch pins. This allows us to easily operate the latches when raising or lowering the tailgate. That's it.
Our tailgate's on and secured. That completes our install of the Stromberg Carlson 100 Series 5th wheel tailgate with open design, part number VGM-99-100, on our 2005 GMC Sierra.

One year ago I purchased this model tailgate for my 2003 Silverado. I found immediately that delivery of it as without exception the fastest. This tailgate made the act of hooking and unhooking from my 5th wheel trailer was simplified tremendously. The visual of the Pin lining up with the hitch was very clear.
The Tailgate did require some minor assembly by me however minimal tools were all that was needed for the assembly. This took a mere 30 minutes for me to perform and the tailgate fit perfectly. It still looks great to this day and performs excellently. I recommend this product without reservation.
I received and attempted to install the tailgate. The pins and the receivers on the tailgate are of different size. The pins are 1.25 inch diameter and the receivers internal dims on the tailgate 1.125 or even slightly less.
It looks to me as though the tailgate receivers where designed for a 1" pin

With a 2007 Chevy Silverado there are two body styles the Classic and New Body style. The Classic has a separate housing for turn signals, divided by some trim. The New Body has the front turn signal integrated into the one piece headlight housing. Based on the installation difficulties and picture of the front of trucks light housing you have the New Body style and would need part # VGM-07-100.

Hi Daniel, I have a 2006 GMC dually and was considering this gate. Do you still like it? The Stromberg website says it does not work with the composite box, which a dually box is certainly composite in 2006- but it installed and continues to work well for you?thanks for your input! shawn

Product was in new condition and the shipping service was outstanding. (I have used this product previously)
The box appear to have been opened and reclosed poorly (maybe a return). Some mounting hardware was loose in the box and a self locking nut was missing, not a problem for me.
Just bought this for my 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax and its a great product, fit just like a glove one slight modification with the tailgate wires. I received it days before they said I would very happy with the product and staff. Thanks eTrailer!!!

Watched the installation video before I purchased and it only took 20 minutes or less to install. I really like the fact that you just bolt the latches on and adjust to the contours of the truck

Great gate, and even better customer service!! Love how easy it was to install, looks great.
After some initial 'fitting' issues, the tailgate has been great. The 'fitting' issues were related to a lower right corner being bent so the gate would not slide onto the truck fitting. Numerous calls to etrailer seeking help, then we figured out that the gate was bent enough to prevent the precise install. Since that time we have not had any issues.
Some of the finish has worn off in joints and some rust color is showing. We are not sure what to do about that. The powder coating perhaps was lacking in some manner.
The gate is fine, priced right for value and appearance. Recommend for anyone looking for this type of flow gate.

I have seen these tailgates for double their asking price. So I figured why not try it. I sent for it and when it came in, I took off the old tailgate,put the fifth wheel tailgate on. I have not taken it off. Went on ultra easy,works great !!!. I cannot say enough good about. Truly is some of the best money I've spent.

This tail gate is light weight and fits well. The tubes connecting the tail gate to the truck are a little too light weight. If the tail gate is down and you are on a bouncy dirt road, the tail gate will fall off!

Absolutely no problems. I take it off and on when hooked up to my fifth wheel camper so that I can access and raise the generator door. I like the ease of taking the tailgate off and putting it back on.

The service was fast, and the product was as advertised. About 5 minutes to install, and it fit perfectly. Even the factory tailgate cable fit right in. The only thing I would suggest is nuts and washers for the tailgate cables. Great product and service. Love it.

yes, my tail gate fit as they said it would, Very easy.
It comes on and off very easy also.
I just take it off of the Truck and lean it up against the wheel and it is out of the way, and in about 10 seconds it is back on, No problems.

Love, love my tailgate! This tailgate actually helps me align my trailer with the ball inside the truck bed. I also love the fact that I don’t have to take the gate down when backing up to my horse trailer. I give this gate two thumbs up! I have had it for one year now and will never go back to a traditional tailgate.
This tailgate, while light, is solidly constructed of metal. It is not flimsy. I installed it in about twenty minutes and find the fit excellent on my full-size 2005 GMC. The black powder finish appears to be thick and evenly applied. The open design makes it easy to handle, and the latches are easily opened or closed. Visibility from the cab is greatly improved and the tailgate makes it easy to line up the king pin when hitching the 5th wheel.
