Today on our 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI, we're going to be test-fitting the Yakima Roof Rack. It's going to include the jet stream, 50" crossbars, part #Y00425. The baseline towers, part #Y00146 The baseline clips for the front, part #Y06123. The clips for the rear, part #Y06125. To start our installation, we're going to take the end cap off of our bar. We already removed this rubber strip, the filler strip, on the bottom side. We're going to take our tower, we're going to slide in to the bottom of our rail, we're going to slide it in.
On the bottom side of our rail, there's going to be numbers. It's going to correspond to the numbers in your fit guide for what you need to set your vehicle at. Ours is going to be set at 33, so we'll slide it up to the 33 mark. We're going to go ahead and tighten this down. When you hear that click, that's going to let you know that it's torqued down properly.
It also has adjustments for the roll of the roof. You can angle it one way, back and forth, for your pitch and roll. You angle your feet in and out, depending on the application and what it says in your Fit Guide. Ours right now are set in the center. Now we're going to take our foot pack, we're going to place it in with the arrow facing to the outboard side. We're going to take that and snap it into position.
We'll put our end cap back on. The last thing we'll have to put on is going to be our clip. It's going to slide in. You're going to hold this out of the way in the bottom side here, I'm going to turn it back in, capturing our clip. Now that we have it captured.
In our application we're not going to install this and cut it but normally you would take this trim piece. You're going to press it in. Once you get to the other side, you're going to trim it off and place in, to keep out wind noise. You're using the small piece on the ends. For our application we're not going to go ahead and install that. Now we need to open the doors on the car, take our roof rack, the larger side of our bar, pointing to the front of the vehicle. Lay it over the lip. We've measured our front bar from the front of the windshield to the front of our pad and it was 7". We're going to measure the second one from center to center. We're going to need it 32". Once we have it centered up where we want it to be, we're going to snug down this top screw first. That's going to pull our plate into the body. Do that on both sides. Then we can start setting our torque, which is the one that goes up from the bottom side. We want to bring that so we have this land right on this edge. We'll just go back and forth until we get it pulled down. We'll just tighten this up until we hear our torque wrench click. We'll put this lock down. Snap it into place. Then we can install our protective cover. You can get lock kits for these as well. They're just going to fit right in there. That'll keep your roof rack protected. You can see that's going to fit real nice up against the bottom of the body, and we can close our door. That's going to do it for our test fit of the Yakima Roof Rack System. It's going to include the jet stream, 50" cross bars, part #Y00425. The baseline towers, part #Y00146. The baseline clips for the front, part #Y06123. The clips for the rear, part #Y06125. For our 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Great fit, holds tight to roof.
Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.
The installation was super easy, and despite a long time stuck in shipping the delivery itself was extremely fast, and the package arrived in spotless condition. The manuals were very easy to follow, and the end result is absolutely amazing. They provided a nice, flush finish and hold the racks down tight.

Relatively easy to install on my VW Golf (etrailer videos are very helpful) and sooooo useful with my Yakima skybox. Not much road noise, so I can leave the rack on even when I am not using it.
The towers are of great quality and construction. Instructions were semi-simple but as long as you read everything twice it’s easy. Great product, I’m very happy with my purchase!
Bought as a pkg for my 2017 Golf R with Round Bars since I had a bunch of Yakima bike racks and a canoe gunwale rack for my old Yakima set up. Installation was easy with good instructions. All measurements from the Yakima site appear to be spot on.

Took longer than expected to receive order but knew when order was placed it would be over a month to receive complete order.
What I was disappointed in was the installation information, much more complicated than anticipated. Would be better if instructions were provided in one language not multiple, too much text to sort through.
Just seems overly confusing, could be done a lot better.
After a year, the racks are holding up nicely and still have a solid fit. I only put them on the car when needed. It just takes a few minutes to set them up and go.

amazing to have something that fits perfectly. a bit complex to set up the first time and takes a few minutes each time, but works great and definitely worth it!
These work well but were not as easy to put on as I expected. My car is small. I ended up having to increase the distance between the two towers by 1/4" to make them fit but now they seem great!
