Yakima JetStream Crossbars - 50" Long - Black - Qty 2:Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today on our 2016 Subaru Forester we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Jet Stream Roof Rack System. This consists of part numbers Y00425, these are the Yakima Jet Stream Cross Bars which are aluminum, and part number Y00147. These are the Timberline Towers for Yakima cross bars, particularly for raised factory side rails. We already have the front one installed. As you can see it has a nice aerodynamic shape to it and that's going to cut down wind noise and drag while you're driving. It has a rubber coated steel strap that wraps around the cross rail itself and then attaches on the inside.
We have this end cap here with this plastic piece that you can knock out and actually put in a Yakima same key system to secure it to your roof and prevent theft and tampering. With the other bar installed these have a carrying capacity of 165 pounds although you always want to double check with your vehicle manual to make sure that it can withstand that kind of weight on your roof. Let's go ahead and show you how the rear bar installs. We already have it partially assembled here on our table. Well start with the foot pack here. The pieces here that go inside the foot pack will be coming with the bars themselves.
We'll take this black plastic piece here and we'll just snap it on the top of our foot. Then we'll go up underneath the foot here, into this section here, put our tightening tool into the screw on the bottom like so, and then take our metal piece here and put it in the center of our plastic racket. Then we'll just tighten it down loosely until it's about even with these two pieces on either side. Now we'll go to the end of the bar and we'll actually make sure that all of that slides in to the bar. All right, now to determine where exactly these need to be on the bar we did a few test measurements and we found where they need to be. What you would do is you would just measure from the edge of the cross bar, we'll put our end cap on here real quick.
Measure from the edge of the cross bar to our foot pack here and just get it aligned where it needs to be. This kit is going to differ from most vehicles and you always want to double and triple check your measurements before you do this. Then you'll just tighten the foot down into place. With this tool here that's provided once it's tightened enough you're going to hear those clicks three times. That means it's torqued down to where it needs to be. Let's go ahead and set it on our vehicle now.
We'll wrap them around, but before we can start any of the tightening process we're going to go ahead and measure from center to center on each of the bars to get our cross bar spread to make sure they're parallel. With that done now we'll take our rubber coated steel straps, hold them up into place and tighten down this screw. We'll do this on both sides. Once they're tightened down all the way you're going to hear those clicks again, that way you know you're not over-torquing or under-tightening, and you'll have that headache to worry about while you're driving as well. Some items you can put on your roof rack, there's a wide variety of them. You have cargo baskets, enclosed cargo boxes, bike racks, ski carriers, snowboard carriers, and even water sports carriers such as kayaks and canoes. Although you always want to double check and make sure you don't over do it with the weight on the roof of your vehicle as well as the weight capacity for these bars. All right, and once we're done with that we'll go ahead and put our end caps in. If we have the lock cores we can lock them into place, and we're good to go. There you have it for the Yakima Jet Stream Roof Rack System on our 2016 Subaru Forester.

Knowledgeable sales rep.Help me through the process on purchasing my roof rack Recommended to anyone quality parts
Great quality! They come with two different style bases. One flat, and one that is stepped to account for the raised area near the gutter trim. Good variety of screws to meet your application. My 2015 Mazda 3 (with fixed points) needed the medium length screws. Seems very solid!
I left the plastic gutter moldings on and just drilled holes for the screws to go through.
For a 2015 Mazda 3, 4 door sedan.
I used the 50" jetstream bars with the skyline towers and the #22 Landing Pads.
Went together easy, great quality, very solid feeling! And, easy to remove and install when needed.
Everything came in a timely manner and ready to install. Looks great, solid rack.
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze.
Still look and work great after a year. Fantastic investment and they didn't reduce my fuel economy. They don't produce a lot of wind noise either.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
I chose Yakima because I had one in the past and they were always reliable. Thule was my next choice but didn’t like the look of 53’ crossbars on my car. I really appreciated the easy to follow instruction that made installation a breeze. The kit came complete with everything I needed to install right out of the box. I purchased the 2 Hightower bike racks to go with the roof rack system and plan to safely secure both bikes for our trips. It was a bit heavier than I anticipated (combined with the bike carriers) which will hurt my MPG but having easy access to disassemble the bike carriers when not in use made it a no brained. Additionally, I love the look of the system on my car.
Parts arrived quickly. Installation was a breeze. Everything needed for a quick and professional installation was included in the shipment.
I waited several weeks for roof rack to arrive after ordering online. I am accustomed to Thule racks, but could not find any towers/bases to fit the 2019 Santa Fe. Once here, the Yakima rack mounted with ease and I look forward to hauling kayaks or basket on the roof.
Thank you etrailer.
Great bars and easy installation on my 2012 Prius C
The yakima jetstream crossbar looks beautiful. Quality is great. Took my vehicle for a test drive, and i didnt hear anything loose or broken from the bars. Very satisfied with the product and the instructions were great. It was my first time installing a roof rack too.
Yakima Landing Pad 22 is the only product I could find that is suitable for my Mercedes E450 Coupe. The car's panoramic glass extends close to where the fixed mounting points are, but Yakima has accounted for that by designing the LP 22 so that the small part that sits on the glass is not transferring the load. Also, the LP22 accommodates the flip-open doors for the four fixed mounting points on the Mercedes. Yakima instruction manual and etrailer.com videos are highly useful.
Only complaint is with the LP 22 Covers, which are supplied for when the roof rack (Towers and Crossbars) are removed. These covers are not usable - they do not snap into place and appear as if they were designed for a different landing pad. This is not a deal breaker for me because I remove the LP 22s whenever I remove the roof rack, but it will likely be a concern for others.
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
Lightweight and actually quite quiet with no attachments on them. With my bike racks there is a fair amount of noise but it doesn't come from just these. Mine is on a 2011 BMW 335.
The installation was super easy, and despite a long time stuck in shipping the delivery itself was extremely fast, and the package arrived in spotless condition. The manuals were very easy to follow, and the end result is absolutely amazing. I love that there's a rubber piece in the top rail that doesn't need to be cut, which makes it a very flush and smooth fit. I also love the modularity and the weight that it can handle, especially for the stuff i plan on carrying.
not installed yet but everything was delivered on time and in good condition
Great company. Fast delivery.
Super solid rack and the only one that fits the Jeep Cherokee without rails well and looks good too. Easy to install and worth the price
the product was exceptional. I would recommend it to anyone, who has a vehicle with a naked roof. It is a solid as a factory installed rack. Josh went out of his way to get me a replacement torque screw driver because the first one from Yakima was working properly.
Very happy with our purchase. I love how easily you can remove the entire rack easily. Too bad the locking mechanism comes separately but we are still happy with what we received.
