Video Transcript for Rola Rail Extreme RBU Series Roof Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rola Rail Extreme RBU series of roof rack systems. The Rola RBU system has been designed to work with raised, factory side rails. They're going to grab a hold of them. That allows us to secure our crossbars right to the roof line of our vehicle. You can see really nice and secure. This is going to give us a lot of options for a lot of different accessories.

Whether you just want to put a rooftop basket or box up here to maximize the capacity of your vehicle while you're going on vacation or you want to throw a kayak carrier, couple kayak carriers up here, couple bike racks, and get your gear where you want it to go without having to store it in your car.Now this is a really nice looking roof rack system. As you can see, it has a graphite colored crossbar. It's very common to see black, very common to see silver. But that graphite, I think, really stands out and sets itself apart. See your RBU foot pack here.

Black polymer design. Very durable, very rigid. Tools stores right in the end of it so you don't have to worry about having any tools brought along with you.Now as we tighten up the rack with our included tool, it brings our clamp in. That comes in and puts pressure on the inside of our side rail. Then you can see here on the outside, we've got the clamp portion that goes down and around.

Now a common question we get on roof rack systems is wind noise. How much is it going to add to my vehicle And that's really going to depend on the roof rack style, but with an aero style bar and the technology in the way they've designed these, it really helps to make it bare minimum, as little wind noise as possible added to your vehicles ride.Couple ways they do that, here on the inside, once we have our foot pack position, we've got this strip. This is going to slide out right up to our foot pack, closes in this gap that we have on that track on the bottom of the bar. They're going to provide us with wind diffusing strips. You can see we've got just a little bit of a gap right here.

That strip we're able to take, slide it in, and we can cut that to size. But something that's kind of different between this one and any of the other ones I've dealt with, about this much of that strip actually goes into the foot pack itself right down here. So as we slide it in, not only does it butt up against it, but it slides in to give us as much protection as possible from wind getting to any gaps down here, creating that noise. Now not only is the size of our crossbar right in line with what you'd expect out of other elliptical style systems or aero style systems like this, should work out with a tremendous amount of roof racks, bike racks, and cargo carriers, things like that. But we've also got the t-slot right here. So if you happen to have the accessories that have the t-slot option, you can slide those in and then simply cut that rubber diffusing strip to the length that you need. Now another neat feature of the RBU system and something I think you're really going to like is the way the tool is stored. It's right here in the end of our foot pack. We're going to turn our quarter turning core. You can see that spring loaded design. It automatically pops out for us. Then we're able to grab it. It stays attached, we can't misplace it, we can't lose it. At that point we're able to loosen and tighten as needed. And it's just a matter of sliding it in, quarter turn the other direction, and it's held in place. Now for additional protection, if you would like to be able to lock either your end caps to your crossbars or your feet to your side rails, there are locked cores that can easily replace the quarter turn locks that we have here now giving you a key like system, all four or eight, whichever you decide will be keyed the same, and keep everything nice and secure to your vehicle. Now the RBU system itself offers 165 pound capacity. But you will want to check your owners manual to determine what your roofs capacity is of your vehicle and not exceed that. Now here's a few examples of the things we had talked about earlier. We've got a bike rack up here, we got our kayak up there. Really able to get these where we're going. Now when we compare the Rola RBU system to other roof rack systems that are out there, I think it's extremely comparable. With the raised rail system, they're all designed to grab a hold of or wrap around so the connection points great. I think it has a lot of features that we could compare to much more expensive roof rack systems. The anodized aluminum, the t-track, the extra steps they've taken in getting rid of any of the wind noise, I thin kr all huge benefits. And with the tool being stored right in our foot pack where there's no risk of losing or misplacing it, I think all in all there's a lot of great features here and it comes at a pretty cost effective price. Now we'll take the black portion of our foot pack. That's going to be slid into the track on the bottom of the bar just like that. We're going to place our end cap on and then just turn it to lock. Now we can place our roof rack system up on the roof line of our vehicle. You will notice each bar does have a front and a back. So you want to ensure that you've got the front facing forward in your direction of travel. Get it close to the position we're going to want it. We'll get both sides adjusted so it goes around our rail. Now we need to check the overhang on each side. Place your foot pack all the way in and see how much we have from here to the end of our bar. We can slide that back and forth to get it even. Now once we've got our overhang even side to side, we're just going to turn our t-handle here. You hear it grabbing a hold of our cross bar, or our side rail rather. Our tools going to slide in. Then we'll just lock it with a quarter turn. I'll go over to our other side, we'll do the same thing there. That's going to complete our look of the Rola Rail Extreme RBU series roof rack.
