Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack

The Malone AirFlow2 roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 aluminum, aerodynamic crossbars and 4 towers. The full-length crossbars extend past the towers to give you more mounting space for carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.

Aerodynamic Shape

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The AirFlow2's Aerodynamic shape helps control air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This decreases the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag and helps maintain fuel efficiency.

Lightweight, Aluminum Crossbars

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The silver crossbars are made of aluminum, which makes them strong, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.

Durable Towers with Built-In Security

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Towers

The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.

Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installed

The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installation Tool

To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug. Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.

Channel and Clamp-On Accessories

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Rubber Clamps

These crossbars have built-in top channels with strips that allow you to carry channel-mounted accessories on your roof. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet.

Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Full-Length Crossbars

The AirFlow2 includes full-length crossbars that extend past the towers. The increased length gives you more space to mount accessories and carriers to your roof rack. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers.

I purchased Malone cross bars to attach a roof tent to my SUV for a road trip to the West and covered 7000 miles, neither the tent or the cross bars moved while on my trip and would recommend them as I would purchase them again and am very happy with them.

Still going great no issues

2019 Honda Passport

Easy to install and looks great. I use these atop my 2019 Honda Passport and have a Roofnest Sparrow rooftop tent mounted to then. No flex. No give. These crossbars get the job done at half the cost of my old Thules. Been over a year with no issues. Would definitely recommend them.

by:

Pretty good rails for the price. One rail arrived with a minor ding on the leading edge. I'm sure sure they would have replaced it for me, but I decided to keep it.
Nice that rails come with an integral allen wrench, hidden in the key lock. I would recommend this product. The other brand name cross bars are ridiculously more expensive and not any more sturdy or attractive. I think this is a good deal.

Rack still looks brand new!Has carried lumber and surfboards. Has held up well. Was a good deal.

by:

Everything is satisfactory except the plastic end caps on the rails--one arrived damaged and two more simply fell out so that I now only have one end cap in place. This is an issue as the aluminum is much sharper than the plastic caps and therefore there is a safety issue with hitting the rails w your head or arm while loading etc.

If you are wanting to replace those caps, we do carry them! They are part # MPG1012. Thanks for the follow up review!

We have used this with one of the largest top carriers avaialable. It held up well and hold our weight just fine. It Is a great addition to our vehicle. I love the versatility. My only drawback is the mounting system is a little cumbersome to get everything installed. It comes with a regular allen wrench but you would be there all day and part of next week trying to install it with that. Do yourself a favor and get a socket mount allen wrench. One at least 10 inches long.

Johnny

Its been a year when we bought this rack. We have made a few more trips with it. The mount has held up well. We have had some really good weights in the topper and had zero issues with the bars. Still a great product!

I recently purchased the Malone Airflow2 Aerobar Roof Rack For Raised Rails- 65 in and extremely impressed with it.
Pros: I wanted to lengthen my bars so that I could place my Thule Motion XL Cargo Box on and my Thule Universal Pull Top ski rack on top of it. It was a perfect fit. It was absolutely quiet on my 700+ mile drive up to Mammoth, CA and back. It handled the severe cross winds on HWY 395 while campers, big rigs, and motorhomes had to pull over on the side of the road until the winds died down by Cal Trans. This cross bar gives me more options for my gear. I can put surf boards side by side as well. I can place 2 kayaks on top. For the price compared to Thule and Yakima, it is score. I highly recommend it. Customer Service was great to help answer my questions regarding the set up.
Cons: It took some time putting it on my roof rails. The bars did not slide onto the mounting device (clamping device) well. There is a metal T shape that has a groove to slide the bar through. If it is not aligned properly then the bar will not slide through and across. As I tried to fix this problem the bolt came out of the housing from the clamping device and I spent 1hr trying to put it back through because there is a spring and bolt inside the clamping device. Super frustrating when the manual does not discuss this problem. It also does not describe which direction the bars face. Important to know for best aerodynamics during travel. The instructions were not very clear. The bar ends caps were not very secure so I glued them on the bar ends and wrapped electrical tape on them as well to secure them.
Enjoy the photos and hope that it demonstrates how well this system works. If you have lots of gear, this is your perfect choice.

Awesome!!!!!!!!! I love my cross bars. I have used it on a trip to Big Bear with 2 kayaks on top, no problem, there was room side by side and secured. Went to Mammoth again with my Thule ski rack and Thule cargo on top and my Thule bike rack on the back hitch with my MTB. No issues. Quite ride. Not the best gas mileage, but hey, I got to bring all the toys with me to have fun. I have put surfboards on top too. Easy to reach and load. Only con: The caps on the bar ends have come off and had to glue them on twice. Not a big deal, but they could design a better cap on the ends of the cross bars.

2014 Ford Five Hundred

I bought the Malone Roof Rack for the express purpose of retrieving an old 17' Grumman shoe keel from a location 500 miles away. The racks were sized for a Subaru Ascent. They did great. My only complaint was that the instructions concerning the noise reduction strip were not idiot proof and I first mounted the canoe without the strips. At highway speed the whistling was noisy. I sized the strips and remounted the racks. Problem solved. We traded the Ascent for a different brand, but I kept the racks and was delighted to find that the racks work just fine on our other car, a Subaru Cross Trek. (We also have a wide bellied 14.5 foot family canoe. Perfect.) I especially like the tightening tool and key system.

No issues with my racks besides an end cap breaking. I simply ordered replacement caps and will keep some spares around. I have enjoyed these racks for both hauling kayaks and paddle boards. I would definitely recommend this product and buy them again.

by:
1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Easy to install-thank-goodness because we were ready to add our kayaks and go (97 heat index) Nick from etrailer said the rails would work on our ‘99 Tahoe and they fit perfectly and have adjustable spacing. We did have three black rubber pieces that look like protectors of some kind- couldn’t find anything in the directions on how/where to use them. Not worried about it for our ‘99 Tahoe - it has been well used! If it ever dies tho I guess I’ll have to figure out how to use the rubber protectors on a newer car.

by:
Ford Five Hundred

I like the racks, but I am unhappy with the noise they make at speeds above 30 mph. On a long trip it is very annoying. When hauling kayaks, I am comforted by knowing that those racks will be holding them securely for 500 miles.

Malcolm

5/10/2023

The racks are still sturdy and useful. The wind noise is still very noticeable.

After a year the Air Flow rack still performs flawlessly; holds the boards & kayaks great. Easy to put on & take off.

My racks are still working out great! We use them all the time easy installation and removal.

by:

Love these racks…not only do they look great but are multi-functional for our family activities. I have received several compliments from random people that think they are one of the expensive brands. I have owned these for a year and they still look like new on our Subaru Ascent.
So glad, that I did not over pay for another brand!!
Hope you don’t…

2008 Toyota Highlander

For a 2008 Toyota Highlander I purchased the Malone 65” cross bars to make a wider platform for both a extra large cargo box and a sea kayak. For years I’ve used the Malone kayak foam pads and straps on the stock Toyota roof rack and they’ve held like a champ at freeway speeds. More importantly, I wanted to elevate and move the cargo box forward so that I could open the back hatch all the way when the kayak isn’t on the car. Installation was straight forward and now the cargo box is mounted so the back hatch opens fully. The next test will be carrying the kayak with the cargo box but it will be necessary to move the cargo box from its centered position on the wider bars. Stay tuned.

Stephen

Works great with Cargo box and kayak or Kayak and SUP. Watch your head that you dint bump it as the bars hangs over. Tennis balls and duct tape can fit that!9

Great fit on 2012 Ford Explorer, and full width allows more room to mount box, Kayak, etc., compared to stock rails.

2015 Jeep Cherokee

I got the Malone Roof Rack Crossbars last night and just put them on. First of all, thank you etrailer for such great service. They must have been shipped an hour after I ordered them. They are great and beautiful. They far exceeded my expectations in quality and looks. They look like they belong on the jeep. They were very reasonably priced in my opinion, and I don't know how you could improve them for more money. Definitely 5 stars.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE

Fairly easy to assemble, not very heavy and appears strong. Rubber inserts that wrap around car rails come off to easily and the lip that goes around the car rail could come from both sides not just one for a stronger hold. tool to attach to car is imbedded in the unit which is nice and built in lock is helpful. This was installed on 2023 Mercedes Benz GLE

Chevrolet Suburban

They are mounted on top of my suburban and it holds my 15' Scanoe on top. It works fantastic.

by:

I have had the airflow 2 for a year and these bars are an exceptional value and have the same features as other brands that cost 2x as much. My full setup with kayak cradles cost the abt same as what other companies charge for just a set of bars. These are much quieter than my square load bars I had previously.

Graciel M.

12/28/2021

Still going strong and was able to transfer my setup to my new vehicle.

Subaru

Very pleased with these crossbars! I have been exclusively using Yakima round crossbars on my vehicles since 1992. We needed crossbars for our 2021 Subaru Ascent in sort of a pinch, as my car (primary kayak/cargo hauler) was out of service. Did some research, settled on Malone, etrailer.com had product in stock and delivered really quick, and my older Yakima accessories worked great with the AirFlow2 crossbars. the towers also clamp solidly onto the factory roof rails. Easily transported 2 kayaks (via Yakima BigStack) and a fully-loaded SpaceBooster cargo box on a week-long vacation recently. And I really love the 'sealed' carriage bolt channel - brilliant! Thanks, Malone, for the awesome product, and thanks, etrailer.com for the quick order turn-around!

by:

These are good bars and heve mede it through the summer without a problem. I have a kayak lift, j-racks and a bike rack and have used them all a few times. Some reviewers mentioned the endcaps coming off but that has not happened to my bars - they are perfect and perfect for my needs.

by:

The pros of this product are the width of the bars, the low price, and the way it fits to the roof rails. I usually buy Thule products, but I needed bars wider than 60". For some reason the Thule fit guide doesn't allow me to use the ProBar Evo 175 (69") on my Honda Odyssey and their WingBar Evo and SquareBar Evo both max out at 60". So that lead me to this product. Other pluses are that it's less than half the price of Thule and the way the feet attach to rails is a lot nicer and easier. Cons are that the quality seems a little lower. The aluminum seems softer and the plastic seems thinner. The bars were a little loose in the box when they arrived and each bar had a small ding in it. After the first use with my cargo box, the bars are scuffed where the box was clamped to it. These are minor cosmetic issues though and overall the pros far outweigh the cons. I am definitely happy with this purchase.

by:

The Malone roof rack (MPG 217) I purchased works great and looks good. I ordered the 65 inch rack to get some extra overhang on my 2019 Subaru Ascent so that when loading kayaks my wife and I can lift straight up.The racks make a slight hum when driving at speeds of 60+ mph but it is not noticeable if the radio is on or if the AC is running. The end caps seem to fit loosely. Afraid that they might fall out, I used some HVAC aluminum tape to hold them on tightly. Hardly notice the tape.
The people at etrailer were very helpful when ordering and when tracking the order. I ordered the rack on Friday, Sept. 20. I arrived on Thursday, Sept. 26. I am very happy with the way the rack is attached and the price I paid at etrailer

  • Will Thule Hullavator Fit on the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack
The Thule Hullavator, part # TH898, does fit on the 65 inch Malone AirFlow2 roof rack, part # MPG217, without any adapters. As long as you have at least 4 inches of bar space outside of the legs to use the Hullavator. This space is needed to keep the Hullavator from hitting your vehicle. If you can tell me the roof style, year, make, and model of your vehicle I can confirm whether the # MPG217 is a fit for your roof or not.

As far as mounting the Thule Force XT L # TH6357B to your Malone AirFlow2 Crossbars - 58" # MPG216 on your 2018 Toyota 4Runner, the fitment will not work due to the 7-inch length of the feet that extend beneath the AirFlow2. This 7 inch length will interfere with the mounting clamps on the Force XT L, not allowing for enough usable crossbar space. However, if your usable crossbar space between the towers (with the basket attached) measures at least 25 inches, then you can use the Thule...

The Malone AriFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG217 will fit your 2020 Subaru Forester raised rails just fine. The reason why Malone doesn't recommend the larger size crossbars is because they will be pushing the limits of the width of your vehicle.
