Once the initial cut has been made with a knife or other sharp tool, pull the integrated trigger latch on this puller tool to open the jaws. Then position the tool to where you need it on the hide and release the trigger so that the jagged, serrated teeth on the jaws clamp down onto the hide. Using the easy-to-grip handle as leverage, pull the skin away from the rest of the carcass. The harder you pull, the tighter the teeth grip onto the skin, which helps prevent the tool from coming free and causing a nasty accident. The long handle also lets you keep your hands safely away from the serrated teeth or a knife, especially if you need to make additional cuts as you skin. If you need to re-position the tool, simply pull the trigger to open the jaws and move the tool to a different place on the hide.
Once you have finished removing the skin and cutting through the bones with the deer splitter (310-VDS001 - sold separately), this stainless steel tool is easy to rinse off and clean with soapy water. When it's clean and dry, you can tuck the compact tool away into your backpack.

This device worked so well that I believe it has added more years to my hunting. While using it, I felt like Tom Sawyer as my hunting partners wanted to try it out.
This is my second time buying this product. The first pair lasted skinning over 25 deer. I use them with a chain attached to them and use an electric winch to pull the deer up with the clamp attached to the hide. One of the hunters was trying to skin an old buck when they broke. I can't blame the tool though. Very well made, we just satretched it's limits.
I bought one to try. We use with an electric winch. Worked well for six months but broke while skinning older large buck. It’s so easy to use I bought two more.
I almost hate to give it an average because it works very well at first. After a few time using it breaks in the same place. I have purchased several and didn't realize they had a twelve month warranty until I purchased more last month. I put dates of purchase on them so I can return after they break. All the ones I have purchased only last about 10 times before they break.We usually harvest about 50 deer a year on our ranch.
