Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Coupler and Pintle Safety Pin Review

Today we're taking a look at pin for a pintle and couplers from Draw-Tite.The thing I like about this, it has a chain attached to it. You're going to see that a lot on pintle style hooks. Not so much on couplers.I like the idea that when our pin is not in use you can simply let it hang there. We don't have to worry about misplacing it, and trying to find a bolt to put in there, something like that when we're ready to use our trailer. As you can see, this is going to be a quarter inch pin so it's going to work out with just about any type coupler.Usable length on it's going to be an inch and three quarter. What that means is when the spring's in there, this is going to be our usable space distance. Now it has the squared style keeper. That works out really well on this coupler.

It actually allows it to come down and sit to get it through there and just sit flush up there on the front. There are also pins similar to this that have a rounded keeper on it. Just going to depend really on your application, which one of those you'll want to go with.As far as the construction of it, we're going to have a clear zinc finish on all the components, spring, pin, and the chain. It should really last a very long time, very minimal corrosion issues. Because it stays attached, you're probably going to be able to use it for a long time because you're not going to lose it.Now overall, our chain length is going to be about eight inches. It's going to give us more than enough room to get it mounted close to our coupler latch here, then be able to use it when we need it.As far as how this compares to other ones out there similar to it, it's going to be right in line.

The spring feels nice and tight. No accidental disconnections or anything like that that I can see.I like the chain as compared to the ones that don't have it. It's been several times I've been out, didn't have a pin, had to come up with some kind of bolt to kind of rig it up in some kind of way to keep that coupler latched. With it staying attached, we're not going to lose it. I prefer this over types that don't have the chain. If you're looking for additional security, we do have coupler locks.

It'd basically be a pin that will go through, do the job of keeping the coupler closed, but also include a lock on the end so you can assure nobody's going to detach your trailer from your truck. As far as the installation process goes, we'll need a point to attach our chain. A lot of guys just seal use a self-tapping screw, just run it down in the flange. We've got a small hole here on the side of our coupler, so we're just going to use a bolt here with a little lock nut on it. We're just going to place that down through, secure it with our lock nut. This isn't going to be something that bears weight. It's just going to hold the pin to the coupler.

It doesn't have to be a huge process getting this attached. Then once we've got it attached it's just a matter of opening up the pin. It's going to allow us to slide that through, bring it back through to secure it. At that point, we can ensure we can head down the road, our coupler's not going to come unlatched. We can travel safely. That's going to complete our look at the Draw-Tite coupler and pintle pin.

The pins are still working like original equipment.

This is a very handy trailer lock that can be easily secured to the trailer for safe keeping. I can't tell you how many of the pins without the chain I have lost over the years. Nice idea and practical.

Both products are still in use. They’re on my small trailer, and I haul my lawn mower or other equipment at least once a week. Both the pin with the wonderful built in lanyard and the weedwaxker stand are holding up nicely. I am just now seeing a little rust on the holder, where it rubs the metal trailer. I am planning on taking it off and re painting it. Over all, very happy with my products.
