Westin E-Series Bull Bar with Skid Plate - 3" Tubing - Polished Stainless Steel

Today on our 2012 Ram 2500 crew cab, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Westin E-series bull bar with skid plate. This is the polished stainless steel 3 inch tube. Part number is 31-5550. Here's what the bull bar's going to look like installed. As you can see, it's got a really nice, highly polished stainless steel look to it. It's going to give us that rust proof protection that we really want.

Got the brushed style skid plate down here at the bottom, gives us maximum protection for our front bumper there. It's going to protect it from dents, scratches, dings, stuff like that. Now these are really easy to install. It's just a matter of removing the tow hooks for the vehicle if equipped and using the provided hardware to attach it. Socket wrench is all you're really going to need, have a torque wrench there to get it torqued down to specification. We've got 2 mounting locations up here on the top.

You can use those for driving lights. We've got a couple of different kits available, both right on there. It'd really give you some good visibility out front and overall, you can see it's just a nice, really beefy kind of look. It's got that 3 inch diameter tubing, really gives us a nice front end look to the vehicle and that highly polished chrome look really sets everything off. Now to begin the installation, what we need to do is get the two tow hooks removed from the front of the vehicle.

They're going to be held in place with 4 bolts. Let's go ahead and start taking those out, and as we back these out, we'll need to hold them on the back side. There's going to be a nut back there, so just kind of hold it in place with the wrench back there and go ahead and remove them. Here's what our nuts are going to look like that we'll have on the back side in there. Those will take a 15, the bolts themselves are a 13 socket. All right.

Now we can return the hardware and the tow hook itself to the vehicle owner. We'll repeat that same process for the driver side. For the next step, it's going to be to get our bracket put into position. This is our passenger side bracket. It's got a P stamped on it right on the front side. If you don't have it stamped, it's pretty easy to identify. What we're going to do is take the 2 short holes or the 2 holes that are closer to one another and replace that over the 2 outer holes that our tow hook was attached with, and then this bracket should be angled in slightly at the top, so out at the bottom, in at the top, and now you've got the right bracket. We're going to take our provided hardware for the flat washer on the outside here and that's going to slide right through the 2 holes on the outside that our original tow hook was secured with. Now we'll take a flat washer and place it on here on the underside of our bumper, then we'll take one of our lock washers and place it on, and then finally put on one of our hex nuts. Do that for both of them. We're going to leave it semi loose if we want to have some room for adjustment. We'll do the same thing for our driver side. Now we can get an extra set of hands and we're going to mount the 2 brackets so they're here on the back side to the outside of our loosely installed frame brackets. Now I'm going to take the same kit of the hardware that we just got done using and we'll place that on, so we've got the bolt that's going go through with the flat washer on it. Behind that, we'll have another flat washer, a lock washer, and one of our hex nuts. Do the same thing here on our passenger side, and we're going to do that for all 4 of our locations. Now we're going to keep an eye on level to make sure it stays level with the truck and also the center of the S here is kind of lined up with that Ram logo that's in the middle of the front of the hood, and then we can just snug it all down. Once we got it snugged, reconfirm everything's nice and level, then we'll torque it down to the specifications that we'll find in our instructions. Now all of our fastener's torqued down to specification, that's going to complete today's installation of the Westin E-Series bull bar, part number 31-5550 on our 2012 Ram 2500.
