Features:

  • Universal gas strut replaces a worn out or damaged strut anywhere you need it
    • Perfect for use on your tool box lid, truck bed cover, or boat hatch
  • Damping groove inside tube prevents bouncing - provides smooth operation in any temperature
    • Extends the rod from the tube to open the lid and hold it in place
    • Compresses the rod slowly to close the lid without slamming shut
  • Internal wiper prevents sticking and reduces friction by lubricating the rod with oil
  • Quick, tool-free installation - ball socket ends connect directly to your existing fittings

Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability

gas strut features

Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

How to Find the Right Gas Strut for Your Application

Determining which gas strut is right for your application is easy. All you need to do is remove your worn-out strut and locate the force printed on the side of the tube:

gas strut features

  • Force: Labelled in Newtons (N) or Force Pounds (#).

Then, pull the rod out so it's fully extended and take the following measurements:

gas strut features

  • Extended length: Measure the connection points from center to center.

gas strut features

  • Stroke: Measure the distance between the edge of the tube and the center of the connection point.

Additional Tips

  • Measurements do not have to be exact. The extended length can be up to 1/2" longer or shorter than the strut you're replacing.
  • For universal struts, there is a tolerance of acceptable Force (or Newtons) for the strut to work for your application. Any weight between the range listed is considered acceptable.

Video Transcript for Review of Atlas Lift Gas Struts - Replacement 14-9/16 Inch Gas Strut Support Arm - ATL37FR

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this universal gas strut lift support arm. This is gonna replace one lift support arm on your truck cover, boat hatch, toolbox or other application. This will extend to help hold your lid or hatch open. It's gonna give you a little assistance as you're opening it and then it's going to hold that open so you're not gonna have to worry about it falling on you. And then when you're ready to close it, it gives a gentle compression while closing, so you don't have to worry about smashing your fingers or any of your gear, anything like that.

This does have these 10 millimeter nylon ball sockets that will connect to your 10 millimeter ball studs. So, very easy to just snap this in place and then it's gonna have a nice, firm hold for you. Our overall length from one ball socket center to the other center of ball socket is going to be 14 and nine sixteenths, just over 14 and a half inches. Our compressed length is going to be eight and 11 sixteenths of an inch, and our stroke is five and seven eighths of an inch. The compression force that this is going to compress with is going to be 21 to 31 pounds or equivalent of about 93 to 138 Newtons.

This does feature dampening technology that provides a nice, smooth operation that helps eliminate bouncing and jumping as you're opening and closing your hatch or cover, whatever it is that you're using this for. This does work in all weather conditions. It's gonna ensure a nice, smooth, frictionless movement, no matter if you're out in the winter cold or a rainstorm, anything like that, it's still gonna operate just fine for you. This does have a nitride coated steel shaft that is gonna be corrosion resistant to help give you a long lasting performance. And it does come with a limited lifetime warranty.

So if you are needing to replace a 14 and nine sixteenths inch long gas strut with a 21 to 31 pound compression force, this here is gonna be exactly what you need. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.

just took longer then expected .

by:

So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
