Most standard pin boxes are constructed of steel and are built with the sole purpose of connecting your fifth-wheel trailer to your tow vehicle. There is no cushioning built in, so a factory pin box doesn't do anything to provide a comfortable ride when you're hauling your fifth-wheel trailer.
This MORryde pin box, however, is built with an internal rubber spring that absorbs road shock and vibration at the connection point. So if you're driving on unpaved roads or uneven pavement, this pin box will prevent any road shock and vibration you encounter from transferring from your tow vehicle to your fifth-wheel trailer and vice versa. In other words, the rubber spring takes the brunt of the impact so you and your towing setup don't have to. And because this unit uses a rubber spring instead of an internal air bag like some other upgraded pin boxes, there's no maintenance required.
The internal rubber shear spring in this pin box is optimized for trailers that range from 18,001 lbs to 19,000 lbs to ensure that it provides just the right amount of shock absorption for your application. If this pin box were to be used on a larger trailer, the spring would be too stiff to provide enough cushion. And if your trailer's GVWR was less than 18,000 lbs, then the spring would be too flexible to provide adequate support.
Chucking, the back-and-forth jerking movement you feel in your cab when towing, occurs most frequently during starts and stops and while making turns. A typical, factory pin box creates a rigid connection without much give. So when a harsh stop occurs, all of the trailer's forward momentum gets forced through that stiff connection, slamming the king pin in the hitch and jerking your truck around.
To combat this, glide pads are built into the MORryde pin box that allow the skid plate to shift up to 3" forward and backward and 1-1/2" side to side to compensate for some of that violent motion so that you don't have to feel it in your cab.
This MORryde pin box is a direct replacement for your existing Lippert 1116 pin box, so the installation is very straightforward. After removing your old pin box, the MORryde can be mounted into place using the same hardware and bolt holes used by the factory pin box.
Because of the weight of the unit, you'll want a couple of friends to help you lift it into place during installation. Once the hardware is securely bolted down, you'll be ready to go.

Hi there 5th wheel owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Morryde's line of rubber pin boxes. The rubber pin boxes from Morryde offer a much smoother driving experience when hauling your 5th wheel trailer. There are several rubber bushings and shear pins in here that allows movement of our 5th wheel trailer, while keeping our pin box here, where it attaches to the king pin keeps that static down here. And it's able to do this using all the various rubber bumpers inside as well as the shafts here that makes sure that everything is going to stay all together. We're now going to take it out onto our test course.
First, we're going to hit our uneven bump section. That's going to mimic a pothole. Next, we're going to hit our even bump section. That's going to mimic going over a speed bump. And then we're going to see what it's like when we do like a hard turn.
We're going to go ahead and turn around right here. Put it under a nice turn. You can see it still turn just like a normal pin box would.While driving this, the performance benefits seem very similar to an Air Ride pin box. What I've noticed though, is those Air Ride pin boxes you do have to air them up. There is a little bit of maintenance there because the pressure does change as temperatures change, so you do have to just keep an eye on those, whereas something like this is a completely maintenance free option due to the rubber pads.
The pads are replaceable so if over time, maybe many years of service, they start to wear down a little bit, you can replace them.Up at front, we have a crushed bumper here. There's also one just like this located in the back. And this is really for when you're stopping and starting, and only if it's an extreme movement because it will slide on these shafts. The trailer will slide forward and as it does, this bumper here, will contact on the surface up here if you do have enough forward motion. So I guess maybe an emergency stop, you slam on the brakes and the trailer goes up, this bumper is going to adhere.
All these components are going to absorb that impact, so you're not going to feel it nearly as much as you would if you just had a solid pin hooked up to your truck. It would just be, boom. It would be very abrupt. Something like this is going to help absorb that impact, but we do also have our shear spring down inside here that allows for movement as well. That sheer spring is kind of the most magic part of the assembly. That's what determines the amount of weight that the pin box is rated for.Our glide pads here are a self-lubricating material and these allow it to slide easily on the surface. You can almost see it kind of here. This one's been out in service for a while and you can kind of see how it's nice and shiny in this location here where the puck does glide on it. So it helps support that weight up, so the sheer spring can its job properly dampening the movement because the main purpose of getting a rubber pin box like this is to smooth out your ride to help reduce chucking and jerking whenever you take off and whenever you stop. It really does help to absorb a lot of that.The movement that we do have available here, we'll have about three inches of forward and backward movement and about an inch and a half of side to side movement. Not so much side to side. It's mainly that forward and backward because it's mostly starting, stopping. That is where there's really going to make a huge difference in the feel of your trailer. You're not going to feel like every time you take off, like you're lugging this big load. It kind of eases it in, so you can just take off and it feels much smoother and then when you come to a stop, it's not like you have all this weight just barreling and pushing on you. It kind of absorbs a lot of that and it's just a much smoother operation that just overall, it's going to give you more control over your trailer because you're just going to feel like you have more control. You're not going to be as tired and gripping the wheel as much. Just really overall is just going to smooth things out and give you a little more energy when you get to your destination and overall, be more comfortable for all of your passengers.There's a few things to keep in mind when determining the pin box for your trailer. There are various different ratings for the Morryde pin boxes and also the fits. You'll want to know the make of your trailer. You'll want to know the trailer's weight rating, not the pin box's rating that you currently have. You don't want to use that. You want to know how heavy your trailer is. And you'll be using those to help determine which replacement Morryde is going to be for your trailer. And that completes our look at Morryde's line of rubber pin boxes.

So far this is a welcome upgrade. Took it on a short trip over some rough road that normally triggers chucking on my F-250. This pinbox prevented it which was a welcome change. I’m looking forward to some longer trips.
Installation was straightforward. Removed the old pinbox which was fairly easy. Installing the new pinbox would’ve been a challenge had my buddy not had a forklift attachment for his tractor. I don’t know the exact difference in weight between the old Lippert pinbox and the new Moryde, but it is substantially heavier. I’d say 2 people muscling and one to install the hardware would still be a challenge. Forklift or similar is the way to go. Also, the new pinbox doesn’t come with new hardware. Got to use your old or make a trip to Lowe’s/Home Depot.
All and all I’m happy with the upgrade, but I thought it was pricey and don’t like the additional weight.
I have not installed this part on my 2021 momentum 395MSR yet, but it was received in perfect condition. I had the same pin box on my Solitude390RKR and loved the way it handled. If the part does not perform as expected once installed and after I have some miles behind it i'll update my review.
This cushioned pin box is definitely worth the upgrade. Chucking is greatly reduced (There's no getting totally away from it) and the frequency of the chucking is tempered making the ride much more pleasant. There are times when you forget your towing it's so smooth on decent stretches of road. Delivery was quick (3 days early as a matter of fact) and driver dropped it in my garage. Plus the fitment was perfect, bolted on with no problem. Entire experience was good !!
Installed this MORryde cushioned pin box on a 20K# toyhauler(from a solid pin). Comparing 9K miles before and 11K miles after, it made a remarkable improvement in the ride, especially on choppy, rough roads (think I-40 across New Mexico). Easy bolt-on installation. I consulted with the staff @ etrailer.com to ensure the correct hitch model was selected. Shipping was straight forward via truck freight. Excellent communication through the process.
Product was received as expected. Installation went very well. I am eager to try it out this week on the road!
After talking to your customer support staff and picking out the right pin box, I ordered it the next day on line. Shipping was fast and it arrived in good shape. The Pin box came with all the bolts and Hardware, it took about an hour to install on my 2024 Momentum M class RV. I took it for a 2-hour road trip and you cannot believe the difference in the ride. I am never disappointed when I deal with etrailer.

While not yet installed thought it worth commenting on the experience thus far - in a word “excellent”. Package was well packaged, the transporter was awesome and kept us informed of his delivery schedule, given the weight of the shipment.

The king pin box was delivered in perfect shape. Metal banded, strapped to a wood pallet in a card board box. Upon installation it fit perfect.
The customer support was excellent throughout the whole process from the ordering, making sure the correct king pin box was selected, to follow up, due to the long wait. The long wait was due to Covid 19. I am a happy camper and cannot wait to try it out on the road soon. I will send a follow up review. The hitch is great. The fact that etrailer only offered one shipping method was disappointing. Upon placing the order, requested a faster more reliable shipping method. This was not an option. The item arrived the Thursday after the estimated Monday delivery. Tracking proved that the item sat in warehouse depots for 11 of the 14 shipping days. This was very frustrating.
It took me about an hour to remove the old one and install the Morryde! Out local camper dealer wanted $700 to do that! I guess I'm worth more than I thought!
After talking with a couple of the sales raps, we were able to obtain the right product. It was shipped it was delivered on time. We picked it up at will call installed it a few hours later with no trouble at all. We would recommend etrailers and this product to anyone.

This is an excellent pinbox and hopefully I’m saving some wear and tear on my trailer. We have a Superglide auto slide hitch and the Morryde adapter sure beats the capture plate I had before. No more chancing a broken foot when it accidentally falls off.
Towing our 36' toy hauler with this pin box is much less jarring than the original pin box. It definitely isolated the movement of the trailer from the truck.
