Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2022 Kia Telluride

Hi there Kia owners. Put in your 2022 Kia Telluride. We're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Tekonsha's 4-pole flat trailer connector vehicle wiring harness. And this is what our harness looks like when it's installed. We do have brackets available here at etrailer. I typically recommend a combination of a no-drill bracket and a 4-pole bracket.

The no-drill bracket will allow you to clamp a bracket onto your hitch. And then you can mount your 4-pole to that bracket, so you don't have to drill into your vehicle at all. To get you a nice mounting for this connector. It doesn't need to be mounted, though. It works just fine, right here.

You can see that there's not an access length where it's going to fall down. And when you're not using it, you can secure it to your hitch using the dust boot here. The dust boot keeps out dirt, debris, and moisture ensuring long lasting operation of our connection. We'll go ahead and take our dust cap off now. And we can see our four connections inside.

It's going to include our left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. So we'll get all the necessary lighting signals at the back of our vehicle for our trailer, keeping us DOT compliant in all states. What I like about this harness is that it has a module that's integrated into the harness, and it's custom fit for our Telluride here. So it plugs directly into the factory connector. The module will then observe all the signals that it receives from that factory connector, and it will reproduce those signals and send them out our 4-pole flat trailer connector.

What's nice about that is if the module detects any shorts or faults on our trailer, it can shut that circuit down to prevent any issues with the wiring on our vehicle. Now that we've covered some of the features of our wiring, why don't you follow along with me, and we'll show you how to get it installed. It's an extremely easy harness to install with it being custom fit for our vehicle. There's one panel we'll remove underneath here. And this is something you should probably have done in about 20 minutes at home. We'll begin our installation underneath the vehicle. Our connector for our wiring that we're going to plug into is going to be located underneath the panel, here. To remove this panel, we'll have three clips here at the bottom, we'll just pop those out with our flat-bladed screwdriver. There's a little notch and like kind of a plus shape about it. you'll see those little notches. Choose any one of them and just stick your blade in there. That'll just pop it right out. After we remove these three, we'll grab our 14 millimeter socket to remove the two plastic nuts holding the panel in place. They're up in these kind of curved areas here. And with these plastic panels, to get these removed, we're going to give it a slight downward pressure. That'll help work, walk it right down the threads. The same thing with the other one here. And then we can set this panel aside. Behind our panel here is our factory connector that we're going to plug our wiring into. So we can go ahead and remove the cap from it. It's got a cap on there. That's the release tab, you can press on that and then pull the cap off. We'll then, take our new harness here. This is our custom fit harness. It's got a connector that will plug directly into our factory connector here, making this an extremely quick and easy installation. At that point, your wiring is functional. But, we're going to go ahead and clean things up. You're going to get some zip ties in your kit, as well as some double-sided adhesive. So we can get this module mounted. We'll just open up the little bag here. And we'll get that attached. What I'd like to do before mounting the module is I like to take the 4-pole wiring here and go ahead and get this undone. That way we can kind of route it towards the center of the hitch. So that way, when we mount our module, we don't accidentally mount the module in an area where it's too far away from the center and we don't get a very good length of wire left over to get there, so. Let's get this rubber band off of there. Kind of route the wire there. Just kind of go in above the hitch and it'll come out the bottom here. Make sure we got ourselves enough length to work with, that looks like a pretty good amount. We'll go ahead and secure it to our safety chain loops using the dust cap. And so that way we know that it's gonna have the length we need to get over there. And then we can clean up over here and get this mounted. We're just going to use some double-sided adhesive to do so. You'll get double-sided adhesive in your kit right here. So we're just going to take the double sided adhesive, stick it to the back of our module. And then I'm going to get a little bit of alcohol on a rag, and we're going to clean up this area here because that's where we're going to be sticking the module. We want to make sure it's nice and clean. If we've got dirt, debris, dust, stuff like that there, the adhesive on our pad, isn't going to want to adhere to it very well. So, that's why alcohol is a really good option to get that all cleaned up. And we'll just grab our module, peel off the other side of our adhesive backing. And then we're just going to stick this right into place, where we cleaned that up. And now at this point, all that's left is just zip tying up our excess of wire that we've got here. Just kind of wrapping it up. We're going to zip tie it to a factory wire that's right here to help hold it all into place. And it's not a bad idea to get your 4-pole wire in here as well. Just to help keep everything as neat as possible. All that's left now is to install our panel back into place. So we're going to lift it up, line up those plastic nuts with the studs, they just push right on. And then, we'll put our pins back into place. And after that, we're ready to test our system out. You could either plug it into your trailer or you could plug it into a tester. We're going to be using a tester here at etrailer. And I prefer the tester method, because if you have any faults on your trailer, your system may not work properly because of shorts and things like that. And you may think, "Oh man, the issues with my wiring that I just installed," but really the issue might be with your trailer. If you use a tester, you can verify for sure that your vehicle is working properly. So when you do plug into your trailer, if you've got an issue, you know it's on that side. So here we've got our tester plugged in. You can get these here at etrailer. We want to verify we've got all our lighting signals, which includes our left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. With all of our signals working properly, we're ready to hook up our trailer and hit the road. And that completes our installation of the Tekonsha's 4-pole flat trailer connector vehicle wiring harness on our 2022 Kia Telluride..

The trailer hitch and wiring harness was as described. I was able to install both items myself after watching the installation videos. The items arrived on time and undamaged. I would purchase from this seller again. I had a question about my order and their customer service was able to take care of my issue without transferring me to other agents. Overall, I received excellent service.

Quick delivery, arrived intact, nice to have the extras in a separate box.
Fitting went well, put vehicle up on ramps for more clearance.
One tip, once you have all bolts in, just run lowers in to pull hitch up to body, do not tighten, I did and there was a small gap between side plate on one side and wasn’t pulling up even with a lot of torque, loosened bottom bolt slightly and side torqued up nicely.
Bracket makes for a “factory” look.
Wiring was easy, made sure the control box was tied with wires facing down and tied it to factory plug which was above the hitch wiring plug.
Zip ties are too short to go around hitch, so get yourself a few longer ones to save joining.

I've purchased two trailer hitches from etrailer, plus wiring harness, etc. What a great experience. The instructional videos are second to none. I wish all companies were as good as this one. Great price, awesome products, fast delivery, excellent customer service. What else can one ask for. Trust this company, they won't steer you wrong, and once they make a deal, there are no unexpected hitches! ;-)

Couldn’t have been much easier. Remove the plastic cover under the left rear of the vehicle (3 push pins and 2 14mm plastic nuts), remove the cap on the factory harness, plug in the new harness and secure the wires as you see fit. There’s no instructions for wire storage or how to route them, but it’s very simple - use common sense - plenty of YouTubes.

It all worked great, your installation videos were what made it possible for me to install the hitch and wire harness on my 2023 Hyundai Tuscon. The hitch fit perfectly the bolt holes lined up. The hitch was flush with the care frame there was not a MM of space between the hitch and car frame (see pic's) Note the hitch shipping box was damaged and had a hole in. But the wire harness did not fall out (see pic's)

by:

Super easy to install, works great with vehicle... speedy delivery and great communication... highly recommend etrailer.com. A+++++++

by:

Easy installed and after being used over 100 times in one year, NO PROBLEMS.
I WOULD order from etrailer.com again.

by:

This hitch is great! I installed it myself with basic tools. The wiring harness made it easy.

by:

Bought this with this the etrailer brand hitch for my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy. Easy plug and play install. Wiring harness package was missing when the hitch arrived as the box had popped open and it most likely fell out. Customer service had a replacement in the mail the very next day. Thank you!

Looking at the online video showing a similar unit from U-haul...a metal clip that holds 4 way wiring connector was present and made it easier to support the unit. However, the unit I got from etrailer did not contain that clip. If this was a mistake, I would hope that clip is available.

Hi Chris, Thank you for your review. This wiring harness does not come with a mounting bracket. If you are looking to install one, I would recommend the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat, product 18144. use the self tapping screws to attach it to the plastic bumper or the nuts and bolts to attach to the vehicle frame or metal bumper. If you do not want to screw into the bumper or frame, then I would recommend the 4-Flat Universal Mounting Bracket, product 118149. This one will come with zip ties that will secure the bracket to the hitch.

by:

I am so glad I came upon the Curt trailer hitch receiver. It's exactly what I was looking for because it actually has the crossbar tucked behind the bumper and all you can see is the receiver! And the T-One harness was easy to install and works great.

by:
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

I picked the Curt trailer hitch over the etrailer hitch because it sticks out further past the bumper. I have the Thule T2 Pro XL bike rack and wanted to make sure I have enough clearance between the bike rack and the back of my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. Even though, your video shows enough clearance (1 1/2 inches ) with the etrailer hitch, with the Thule T2 Pro XL bike rack on the 2020 Santa Fe, I wanted more clearance. With the Curt hitch installed I have 3 inches between the closest point on the bike rack and the back of the SUV.

The installation was straightforward and easy. We did use a lift which made it much easier than the previous installation I did laying on the ground under our Honda CR-V. For that SUV I got the etrailer Hitch.

I followed the instruction video for the wiring harness, and it was a simple installation.

by:

Easier than video of installation. Locate the cars wiring harness, unplug ; then open and plug up new product with one snap, and secure wire line along installed mounted support to flat surface and stick-on square box. Then continue securing wire line on other side of hitch and finally mount any excess wire to hitch while leaving short piece free to serve as connecting 4 post receptor. Over and done with. Thanks for being true to your easy promise

This trailer wiring kit was the exact match for the existing plug and play wiring underneath my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. However, you will need to order a separate bracket available at etrailer also to attach the trailer 4-pin connector plug to either the hitch or bumper fascia. I attached mine to the fascia pictured below.

by:

Harness easy to install actually had alot more wire than needed. I understand Hyundai has now issued a recall related to their factory towing harness, who supplies this harness are they similar or the same supplier.

Hey Jeff, The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118784 is only for Santa Fe models with the factory towing package. If yours does not have this then you would need the splice-in Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236 instead. I'll put a note in your order for customer service to reach out with a return slip for you.
