Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11141304 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years of the Chevrolet Captiva Sport. You can use the vehicle fit guide located at Etrailer.com to ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle. It's going to provide a four-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with five-pole, six-pole and seven-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately.

It does come with a dust cap for the four-way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points whenever your plug's not being used. The black box is the included taillight convertor. This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This unit is designed to connect quickly and easily.

It does come with detailed installation and instructions that are going to help walk you through that process step by step. Basically, what you'll need to do is locate your connection points. Those are going to be in the rear cargo area, and plug in your connectors. The connectors with the yellow wiring go to the driver side. The connectors with the green wiring go to the passenger side of the vehicle.

Locate your connection points, plug these in. These plugs are going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicles, and they're going to snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you get those done and those connected, you can make your ground connection. It's going to be your white wire, has a ring terminal pre-attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw.

Then you'll need to mount the convertor box to a nice, out-of-the-way location. It's got a mount located on each side. That way you can get it secured, out of the way using the included cable ties. Next, you'll need to run the hot lead 00:01:39 to the vehicle battery. That's the red wire coming out of the convertor box. It's got a butt connector on there. This attaches to one end of the bundle of wiring. The other end of the bundle runs all the way up to the vehicle battery and gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector. The other half of the fuse holder gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It's got a ring terminal pre-attached on there. Then the unit also comes with your 15 amp fuse, goes directly in the fuse holder. It's got the cap that goes over it to keep it safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring with the included cable ties. Then, your four-way connectors are going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and four-pole connector itself. The grease is going to help prevent corrosion to the terminals and the packet of grease is included with the kit. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at three amps per circuit. For the taillights, it's six amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector.

The sales representative was very knowledgeable in regard to determining the precise hitch and harness to install in my vehicle and I have had no service issues since. I used it to take a small boat and trailer fresh water fishing which has enriched my life immensely. Thank you for quality service and for a quality product at a reasonable price. Other quotes were higher for the same product or for a product less suitable.

One of the Best online ordering experience I have ever had the pleasure doing. Barry handled the transition from the beginning till the end and not knowing much about what I was talking about,he walked me though the entire process. It says a lot about a company when their employees take such pride and knowledge in their job performance.
Again it was my first time working with your company and it definitely wont be the last
Thank you so much for all the help the great product and the fast delivery

Worked perfect. Only issue was running power wire to battery. Not hard, but wanted to hide it well without pinching it. Good product, working perfect.
