Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. This product fits a 1987 to 1988 Ford Bronco and it provided a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately and it comes with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector that way you can cover up the connection points whenever your plug's not being used. Now this is designed to connect quickly and easily. You don't have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires, just locate the connection point behind the rear bumper and then you plug in this connector.

Once this connector is plugged in to the connection points on the vehicle, you'll then need to make a ground connection, that's a white wire with a ring terminal attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw. And then you would route your wiring and we recommend for this to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. And we do recommend a mounting bracket to keep the connector secured and easily accessible. So route your wiring to where you want your plug and then secure your wiring with included cable tie. It also comes with some terminal grease so it is recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease in all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself because that grease is designed to prevent corrosion.

It's a really nice design, very easy installation. It's a plug and go. You also have a connection point here, so again, this plugs in to the connection point behind the rear bumper. These two pieces plug together. Again, you'd want to use some terminal grease on that.

Ground connection, run the wiring and then you have the plug that would easily attach to the 4-way connector of your trailer. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector.

  • Which Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Fits a Full Size 1988 Ford Bronco
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 41990, is a weld together application for service body trucks. For your 1988 Ford Bronco, the correct Draw-Tite Hitch is # 40050. Please note it will not fit models with a roll pan bumper. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. If you will be doing some towing, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900, which comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a pin with clip, and a carrying bag. • Does the White Wire from the Curt T-Connector # HM11140415 Ground to the Truck Body
Yes, the white wire from the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11140415, that you referenced is supposed to be grounded to a clean metal surface on the body of your vehicle. I attached the installation instructions also even though they do not mention where the white wire gets run.

  • Troubleshooting Weak Trailer Brakes After 50 Miles
You probably just haven't traveled far enough yet with your trailer. Electric brakes need about a 200 mile breaking in period to allow the brake shoes and brake magnets to bed into your drum. During those 200 miles you need to make sure you apply the brakes with a marked decrease in speed at least a couple dozen times - ensuring you let the brakes cool between applications - to get to the point where the brakes won't feel weak like they do now. After that you should adjust the brakes and...

  • Does the Separate Ground Wire on Hopkins Trailer Wiring Harness HM11140415 Have to Be Connected
If the wiring harness you purchased has a separate ground wire then you will need to attach it to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface to provide a strong enough ground to complete the circuit. Even on plugs that have a ground built in, sometimes a separate ground wire is needed, like on # HM11140415 for example, because the regular ground is not sufficient for the extra load on the system.
