Hello neighbors, I'm Steve with etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the replacement lock cylinder for your bolt toolbox latch. Now this will code to a center cut GM key. Now you will require the use to install this a retaining nut. That nut is sold separately, you can get that on our website etrailer.com, to secure this cylinder in place. Now what this fits is this lock core is gonna fit, again, your bolt toolbox latch.
That latch would look something like this, and you can see the key part there on the right-hand side of the screen there, but that's what this is gonna fit. So, again, that is sold separately as well, along with that retaining nut. So very simple design, very simple lock core, and if you're looking at this it's got a couple slots and stuff on the bottom, like this one's open. That's what's considered to be your drain, your drain hole. So you want this facing down whenever you're installing this.
So if you've never used bolt technology, what it does is you use your driver key, so your vehicle key that starts your ignition, and you can actually key these one time only and only to one vehicle, it's a permanent code so once you put that key in there and code it it's permanent. But what you do is you take your vehicle's key, you insert it inside of here, fully in the back, and then you rotate it to the right 180 degrees and you leave there for a few seconds, and then you go back left and right, like open and close, about three times. Then you leave the key engaged while you install this into the latch and while you put the retaining ring on, and once you've got it in place, again, that drain facing down on insulation, then and only then should you pull that key out. And then that's it, it's coded to your driver key, to your vehicle, and you're ready to go. Pretty nice design, pretty nice that you don't have to worry about extra keys and that kind of stuff so I really do like all the different bolt technology accessories and locks that we carry here at etrailer.com, so this is just another great one.

Replaces a broken cylinder in your BOLT toolbox latch or you can change the latch to fit a different ignition key.I ordered this lock for adaptation to the Deck System pull out drawers. The lock unit itself is well built and easily keyed to my ignition key. The problem comes in that the locking mechanism which attaches to the rear, attaches with a snap ring, whereas most drawer locks I've seen, the locking mechanism attaches with a screw, for durable security. Also, I was sent a metal locking mechanism, which was of a thin metal, and could easily be pulled past the stop area. I hopefully can get some more durable steel and make my own mechanism, although I am concerned that it cannot be screwed onto the rear of the lock, and will still have to be attached with the snap ring. Let me say that the customer service and help I was given was better than excellent. Jason went above his responsibility in trying to help me adapt this unit. Finally, I would offer that future locks be adapted to attach the locking mechanism with a rear screw for more durability.
Product was not the correct size, but this was on me. I kept the product in hopes I could use it on a future project.

Works well with factory key, but doesn't work as a stand alone lock for a pickup box if it's not a handle style.
I replaced all three on my ARE camper shell. They were a snap to install, and worked exactly the way they were supposed to. Shipped via UPS, and it only took four days to get them!

I got three of these for an A.R.E. pickup topper for which the previous owner had no keys. These coded to my ignition key and kept me from having to keep up with another key. In all it took about 20 minutes to put the three on. Love them.

These worked great on my A.R.E. DCU truck topper! I was able to key them to my 2020 Ford side cut keys. I did NOT need the retaining nuts in my case, as I was able to reuse the nuts that were on the previous lock tumblers.
Exactly what I needed. Very easy to replace the old cylinder with this one and key to my existing key simply by inserting key and turning.
I’m a locksmit, these locks are common to go out so now I’m keeping extra stock handy. The rekeying process was a little scary at first but simple in the end.

I bought a used ARE commercial topper and the previous owner did not have the key to the locks. I went online and found locks that looked similiar to the ones on the topper. They worked perfectly for my A.R.E. contractor truck cap. The key used was for a newer FORD(2015) even though top was on a 2000 Ford. So find out what year keys will work if you want one key on your ring. Again key(no pun intended) is it worked for my A R E topper and was 1/3 cost the ARE stealership wanted

Lock cylinders came just barely on time as estimated. In order to make sure things were done just right, I took it slow on the first replacement, took about 30min, then the next took about 10min and the next 5min, this was in 25° weather with gloves and basic tools. Really all that was needed for my locks was needle nose pliers and an adjustable wrench. My existing key turned ckockwise in a full 360°, then worked perfectly. So nice to not have a separate key!

These BOLT locks are absolutely great! Ingenious design that lets you use one key for your truck and the lock. I had purchased a second hand commercial truck topper that had three locks that were keyed to the former owner's truck. The truck topper dealer wanted a whole bunch of money to replace the entire T handles. These solved my problem and the price beat another site!! Very pleased with etrailer! etrailer saved the day and shipping was very fast!
