Video Transcript for FloTool GRIPTECH Adjustable 3-Prong Oil Filter Wrench Review

Today we're gonna be taking a look at FloTool's GRIPTECH adjustable 3-prong oil filter wrench. This 3-prong oil filter wrench is awesome because it works with a 3/8" ratchet. What's nice about that is you can use extensions and swivels and stuff to get this into some crazy locations that you wouldn't be able to get your traditional filter wrenches in such as your pliers style or your band style. So I really like the versatility that these have. This filter wrench works by using your ratchet to turn the mechanism in the middle. Now when this turns, it's going to turn in here, that's going to bring these three prongs closer or further away, depending on which way you're turning them. They have a maximum spread of 3-3/4" and a minimum spread of 2-3/8".

This can be used to loosen or tighten as the gear will allow it to clamp in either direction. I do recommend not using a filter wrench when tightening down your filter. However, I recommend doing that by hand cause you could potentially damage the filter when using a wrench to put it on. There are rubber grips on the end of each prong to ensure it doesn't slip on your filter when taking it off. We'll now connect it to our 3/8 drive ratchet. We're not gonna place it onto our filter.

These wrenches are only designed to work with spin on type filters. You don't wanna use them with cartridge style filters that go inside of a housing. Once you tried it on we can just begin loosening our filter here. And you see as I turn it counterclockwise the jaws tightened up, grip the filter and pull it off with ease. Once you've got it loosened I recommend you take the wrench off and just go the rest of the way by hand. You of course wanna wait to take your filter off, until you've properly drained your oil out of here at least enough to where you can position your oil pan underneath your filter.

If you cannot position your pan underneath the filter while the oil is draining, then you may need to wait the oil finishes draining, reinstall the plug and then move on to your filter. And that completes our look at FloTool's GRIPTECH adjustable 3-prong oil filter wrench.

I like this wrench over the other versions available because it can be used to both tighten and remove oil filters in hard to reach areas. The rubber grips are nice for gripping as well as not marring the filter. Fits Jeep WJ wide filters, among others.

Contemplated for a few weeks what Sewer Hose to go with and I'm a green newbie to RV life so it takes me a little longer. Went with a brand that I found difficult to connect the ends to and to pull apart too. Oh Dear. They make a wrench system for some brands but not the one I bought of course. E-trailer to the rescue just as I was debating my options they sent out an email directing me to these pliers. And sure enough there are a number of reviews saying these work on that brand of sewer hose. Thanks again Etrailer for your help and insight.

I ordered this to help me remove the sewage discharge cap on my RV -- and it does exactly that, with ease! A great assist!

by:

Purchased this for use on the valterra drain cap on my camper.
etrailer response was great, product works perfectly.

by:

Better than using my hands or a strap wrench to get my sticking cap of the holding tank drain. Still not easy. The makers of these caps should make an effective wrench.

by:

I use these for disconnecting tight rv sewer twist connections. My grip is not what it used to be, so I appreciate the confidence they offer.

by:

Got tired of using a filter wrench with no grip to remove tight oil filters. This should take care of the problem for me and is of much better quality than the filter wrench I have thrown away to get it out of my life.

I purchased this tool to open the cap on the waste line on my rv trailer. It sometimes gets stuck in the closed position and I cannot open it without mechanical help. This tool does the job and solves the serious problem of emptying the waste tank on my rv.

by:

Purchased the Griptech to use on my sewer hode hook up on my fifth wheel when camping. Perfect.

by:

Can't tell you how much easier this will make a "dirty" job. Outlet cap can be easily remove with minimal effort.

by:

Quality tool in both feel and appearance and eTrailer sells it at a reasonable price.

by:

Excellent product. Well made. I own two pair.

by:

Description says 2 3/4 “ to 4+” does not come close to 2 3/4” more like 3” Not Happy
