Ellen: Hi everybody, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And today we're going to be taking a quick look at the Dimmer for Vision X Off-Road Lights with Prime Drive. The nice thing about this dimmer control is that it has this little knob here so you can actually adjust the brightness. And it gives you a little bit more adjustability for your vision X lights. So this is going to bypass your vehicles wiring. You don't have to worry about splicing into your factory wiring, avoiding any warranties or anything like that since it's going to be controlled all on its own.
It has the larger plug on the end, and then a smaller plug that's going to match up with our vision X light. Now I have the wiring harnesses that come with this pre set up.I'm going to bring in my vision X light, so you can get a better idea about how all this goes together. Coming off of the light, we'll have a matching plug and that's going to have a little yellow wire. That's going to match up to the small harness that comes with our dimmer kit. That plugs into the wire, yellow wire from our dimmer.
And then our two connectors go together there. So to match up the tabs and click them in place. The nice thing about these connectors is that they are actually waterproof, so you don't have to worry about any water getting in there and causing any shorts with your connections. And then I'm just matching up the red wires and the black wires together. Red is going to be for power, black's for ground.
And I'm going to turn on my power source. So you will need to run the wires from your dimmer switch to power and ground just like your light. And then we can use the switch to adjust that light. So as you can see, it gets brighter and dimmer by turning that dial. And we can actually even turn our light off with that dimmer switch. I'm going to turn the lights out in the studio so you get a better idea of the change.
So it's going to allow you to adjust the light from 100% or full output to 50% or about half output and then turn it off. It makes it really easy to adjust that on the fly. So you don't have to worry about having your light at full brightness all the time, and you can also shut it off whenever you go back on the road. Since these lights are typically just meant for off-road applications, you don't want to have these on, on the highway or else you'll pretty much blind somebody. But pretty easy to install since we won't have any hard wire connections, it all just plugs up. Pretty much, the only hardware connections you have to make will be to the wiring harnesses themselves. You're not cutting into your vehicles wiring. The yellow and green wires go together, red to red, black to black, and that's pretty much all there is to it. I'm going to disconnect everything and we'll go over some more specs on our dimmer switch. Now the light is sold separately. We've got a lot of options here @etrailer.com and this dimmer will work with pretty much anything that has that little yellow wire coming off of the harness. So in our kit, again, we'll get our two-prong plug and then our smaller, yellow and green plug. The voltage for this operates between nine volts and 40 volts DC. As far as how big our dimmer is from the end of the knob to the very end of the connector, it's about nine and a half inches long. The wire coming off of the back of our dimmer switch to about where it would meet up with the other wire, it's about five and three quarter inches. It's a little box, so you would actually need to mount up inside your cab. That is about just shy of three inches long from the end of the knob, just to the end of the box. To the outside edge of the tabs it's about two and a quarter inches wide. The mounting holes are about two inches center-to-center. And then it's going to sit up from our dash or wherever we choose to mount this about an inch and a half tall. Now, this doesn't come with any mounting hardware to get this installed in your dash. You probably want to pick up some self tapping screws, maybe a nut and a bolt, depending on where you want to mount this. You just want to make sure that it's somewhere within easy reach. So you're not having to reach across your cab to adjust those lights. If you prefer, there's also an option for this dimmer that's just a button. So it goes from 100%, to 50, to off, instead of that dial adjustment. Personally, I like the dial, lets you adjust that light a little bit more finely. It's just up to you and your application as far as that decision. You can find that other dimmer switch along with all the other accessories, envision X right here @etrailer.com. That's going to do it for our look at the Dimmer for Vision X Off-Road Lights with Prime Drive - Dial Control..
