Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're going to be taking a quick look at the replacement driver's side end cap for your louvred tailgate from Stromberg Carlson. This particular end cap is going to fit the 4000 series from Stromberg Carlson. And if something happened to that original end cap or cover plate, and it got damaged or busted, this is going to be that direct replacement from the manufacturer.It's pretty simple. We'll have a little attachment point up on the top kind of inside or interior of the cover plate. This would be the kind of cab end, and then also at the bottom.
It does not come with any hardware, so you will have to reuse the old hardware from your original cover plate. But again, this is going to be the driver's side or the left hand side of your vehicle.The 4000 series fits a lot of GM and Chevy trucks. The Chevy Silverado and Sierra from about 2014 through 2019 or the current Chevy and GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra. They're pretty much the same.That's pretty much all there is to it. There's going to be a couple little plastic blocks to kind of give it some support and help to hold it in place.

This tailgate is the ultimate "plug and play" item. In total it took me less than 30 minutes to open the box and install it. It was so quick and easy I triple checked it fearing I messed up. Light weight yet sturdy.
This tail gate is very good. It fit perfectly on my 2016 Silverado 3500. The only issue I have is the locking mechanism does not always release. That can be easily resolved with a screw driver or keys. It is an annoyance but other than that it is a good value for the product.
Tailgate word perfectly for my needs, I live in northwestern New Mexico and use it spring to fall for 5 th wheel convenience during hookup and dropping trailer. The light weight and v shape eliminates much of the fear of baking normal tailgate into trailer. I don’t have to drop tailgate to hook up. Was difficult to sand rubber inserts to fit on initial install but I got it done, also doesn’t provide theft deterrent from bed as the v opens enough for hand to reach latch on by backflip tonneau cover however I knew that would be the case before I purchased. I am totally satisfied with my tailgate.
It works fine. Sometimes it gets stuck and doesn't want to unlock but I finally get it. Other than that it's fine. I wish it had a place for the backup camera. I was able to drill a hole and make it work. Other than that I'm happy with it. I would buy another one.
Worked great! A few times it was difficult to get latched. It would latch after four attempts or less. I checked to make sure it was properly aligned. It was. I would suggest this product to others. Have sold the truck now! Upgraded to a newer one. Thanks
The product went together without any problems and it was pretty much set explanatory. Fit is great and the tailgate shuts very easily. This was installed on my 2017 Ram 3500. The truck is brown and the black tailgate blends in very well.
This tailgate looks great and works great. The instructions are easy to follow for the installation.
It took me about 20 minutes to complete the installation process.
I recommend the Carlson Stromberg 4000 series tailgate.
Works well except the "donut" that fits on the driver's side post keeps falling off and the one on the passenger side almost makes it impossible to remove the tailgate.
I thought it was a metal tailgate not plastic. the insert on right side pivot point broke immediately. request new part and explanation of how it is inserted.
Plastic but durable. Unless you open and close it a lot. Then the closing mechanisms break. No parts can be found and the warranty says I have to ship the whole thing back to get replaced and I have to cover all shipping.
After I installed this tailgate, I can never go back to the original! The photo speaks for itself. East assembly with no adjustment for proper fit. Installed on 11-1 more than 10 compliments on 11-2. A must have even if you don’t have a 5th wheel..
I love my tailgate. Light weight, easy to use, looks awesome on my white F150. Very happy with quality and fit. etrailer very easy to work with. .
Wasn't very happy with it. Looks good. But no where for a backup camera. I'm also not happy with the plastic.
Very Nice! The installation instructions were clear and easy to follow. The tailgate itself took a little time to loosen up and start moving freely but did. I’m very happy with the purchase!
Well, the tailgate itself, has been a Godsend for towing our 5th wheel camper. However, the spring loaded latching mechanism (or lack thereof) caused me a bit of a problem early, last spring. We were on our way back fro FL and stopped in Washington, DC to see my Granddaughter at College. As we were leaving the KOA, I had to lower the tailgate to hook up the the rig due to a steep grade. When I slammed the tailgate, I forgot to manually twist the knob, counterclockwise, back to it's latched position, because it doesn't spring back by itself! As we drove off, I heard a slight thump, which is normal for an F450/5th wheel rig these days, so I continued on. When we got out to the main road, we had a sharp right turn onto said road. As I drove off, I heard an "excruciating, tearing" sound that turned out to be the top point of the right side of the tailgate "Ripping" a 3 foot slice into my front cargo door of our 2021 5th wheel. My fault, obviously, but still would be nice to have a spring loaded latch on there!!!
Tail gate is ok the Curt plate and A20 fifth wheel hitch are amazing! Lori in customer service is awesome!!!!
I purchased same a few years back from etrailer and didn't hesitate to again. The improvements since ,to now are great ,stronger ,trim end pieces,and lock are a great improvement.Love it and etrailer for always what I need. All the videos help so much.
Easy to install, and makes connecting 5th wheel a breeze. I only wish it was rated higher for standing weight.
I didn’t realize how flimsy and plastic this tailgate was when I bought it, but that’s on me for not reading the the entire description I suppose. I don’t think it was worth the purchase but it did save me some cost over a replacement oem tailgate that would have to be painted to match. I hate that it only has a 100lb capacity. Also closing it is a 2 part process, you have to slam one side then push hard on the other side to ensure both sides are latched, this is due to it’s flimsy plastic construction. My kids are constantly jumping oin and off the tailgate at the ranch before, so now I can only be worried that it will break. If they made a steel version with ORM camera mount this would be a great product. As for now time will tell but I’m not convinced it will hold up over time.
Great product. Only problem I encountered was installing bottom screw on the end covers.

My son and I just installed the Stromberg Louvered Tailgate in only 20 minutes , just a few minor adjustments to the side covers and it fit like a glove. And to be honest , my wife loves it because I nearly tore the factory tailgate off our f 250 when I forgot to lower it after disconnect of our fifthwheel . Thank you etrailer.com
I was wanting a 5th wheel tailgate for my Tundra since I pull a 5th wheel camper and I’m glad I chose the stromberg tailgate, it was easy to install and looks awesome and now I don’t have to worry about ruining my tailgate. Received the units on scheduled delivery date. The directions were fair, little confusing on some parts. But the videos helped. Purchased the fifth wheel gate and the insert. Was surprised the insert was metal.
This gate looks good on the vehicle. It took approximately 40 minutes to do the complete install. I purchased this gate because it will be easier to hookup to my fifth wheel trailer.
I believe this gate was sold at a fair price and appears to be a quality product.
