Video Transcript for Review of Firestone Vehicle Suspension Parts - Air Bag Replacement - F6776

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Firestone standard air spring with double convoluted design and a half inch NTP opening. This is going to be model number 224C. This is going to be their direct replacement for that model number on your Firestone airbags system.Airbags, of course, are going to be a great addition to any vehicle that's going to be under load, that's going to be carrying a lot of heavy stuff, you want to improve the overall ride quality, all that good stuff. This is going to be that direct replacement from Firestone.

It has all the specs from our original bag. It's going to be a standard double convoluted, which basically means it has this little waist in the middle that gives it more stability, helps to increase the burst pressure of the spring, so basically it makes it more stable, more secure, and it also limits the amount of spreads, so whenever we crimp this all the way down, it's not going to flatten out like a pancake. It's going to stay relatively compact even when it's pushed all the way down.It has our four layer reinforcement construction, so it gives a good amount of support. We'll have our rolled crimp on both of those plates to make sure that it has a good seal around the top and bottom of the bag. This portion in the middle is a band or a wire girdle hoop that gives it that convoluted shape, so it almost looks like a figure eight stacked on top of each other, but it's all one bag connected together.

Just helps to make the bag really stable and secure.Firestone is known for making a really well-built bag, so this is going to be a replacement if by some chance something happened, the bag got torn, punctured, or maybe melted from being too close to the exhaust and not having the heat shield quite right or maybe it's just worn out after years of good service. You also want to make sure that this has at least five pounds of air inside it at all times. That's kind of the minimum that you need to have in these bags, typically is five PSI. Just make sure that everything is working properly and that it doesn't get worn out or it doesn't wear prematurely. Now as far as the more technical specs with this, again, our inflation port thread is going to be a half inch NTP. The compressed height whenever it's all the way down is about three inches. Whenever it's all the way extended, it's about 8.91 or just about nine inches just under.

The ride height is typically going to be between five and a half to seven inches. The maximum diameter whenever it's all the way inflated and pushed out is about seven and a half inches, 7.52. PSI again goes up to a hundred pounds per square inch and it does have a limited lifetime warranty. The studs up here at the top, these are going to be a three eight by 16 inch, excuse me. It's going to be a three eighths inch by 16 by three quarter studs. Those are going to be spaced two and three quarter inches apart.

I'll put a ruler on it just to show that, about two and three quarter inches apart, center to center. The blind nut at the bottom of our bag is that same, excuse me, three eight inch 16 thread in the center of the bag. And basically this is just going to replace that bag for you and get you back out on the road without having to replace your entire system. So it'll make that repair much easier to take off the old brackets, put it in place, and you should be good to go.That's going to do it for our look at the Firestone standard air spring with a double convoluted design.
