A spin-on adapter allows for the external oil lines necessary to install an engine cooler or an additional, remote-mounted filter by converting your vehicle's oil filter landing into a passageway. Because the adapter installs where your filter normally is, you will have to mount your oil filter in a different location.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Derale spin-on adapter kit. This kit is going to include this spin-on adapter that's going to install in place of your engine oil filter on your engine. Then it's going to provide these two 1/2-inch NPT ports that will allow you to connect a hose so that you can run your engine oil out to a oil cooler and through your filter. So this is going to mount right onto your engine. They include this 20 millimeter by 1.5 millimeter hex sleeve nut that will fit in place there.
They've got the snap ring that you'll install to hold that in place, but that will allow this to thread right onto your engine so you have a nice solid connection there. They also include this O-ring for a nice tight seal. So this is just gonna be one of the components that you'll need if you're installing a oil cooler. Obviously with displacing your oil filter you'll need to still have that inline somewhere to filter out any contaminants from your oil, so you'll need to have a remote oil filter mount so that you can mount that. And then of course, your hoses to run from your engine to your filter and from your filter to your cooler and then back to your engine here.
So this is just gonna be one of the components that you'll need. So if you are looking to replace an adapter that came with a larger kit, this will do a great job for you. But if you are looking to start from scratch I would recommend one of our other kits that has all those components put together, so less that you have to worry about piecing together. Just to give you a few measurements here, you can see this is right at 3 inches in diameter. It's about inch and 3/4 tall.
Our O-ring we're looking at, I'm gonna say about 2 1/2 inches in inner diameter and our outer diameter is about 2 3/4 of an inch. So that's gonna complete our look for today. This is very similar to other adapters that we have like this that have different nuts. So you wanna make sure you're getting the right one that will thread onto your engine to make sure that installation process much easier for you. That completes our look.
