Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Electric Winch BDW20306 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Bulldog winch wiring kit for winches. Now this mounting kit is designed to connect your winch to your vehicle battery. So this kit includes 96 inch long power leads with click connects to mount on the vehicle side. Then it has the 20 inch motor leads with click connects to mount on the winch side. Basically what happens is you mount this on the vehicle side and whenever you're ready to hook up your winch, all you have to do is plug these two ports together and that's all there is to it.This will be connected to the vehicle. This will be connected to the winch motor.

Connect it and now you have power to the winch from the vehicle. When you're done, you disconnect. This is gonna stay mounted onto the winch side of things. What they do is they include a dust cap so that way you can cover up those ports and you can actually mount this. That way you don't lose the cap.

But you cover up the ports until you're ready to use it again so it keeps that dirt, grime, and moisture away from the terminals.Red line, that's used to indicate your positive wire. Then the black wiring is used to indicate your negative wire. Ring terminals are already on the ends of the wire leads, and it comes with some cable ties so you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring. All wiring is six gage wiring. That's gonna do it for today's look at the Bulldog winch wiring kit for winches.

  • Is Wire Size on a 4-Way Large Enough for 12 Volt Power to Charge a Battery
Basically, yes and no. Given the short distance from the front of the vehicle to the battery the small gauge wire on # HM48144 would more than likely be able to handle the amperage running through it. But the greater the distance the less amperage it can handle. The problem you will run into using 4-Ways is the small wire gauge. As an alternative what about using some winch wiring and connectors, # BDW20306. The connectors aren't much larger than a 4-Way and the wire gauge on these is...

  • Will Curt C51108 Echo Pass Through 12-Volt Power to Maintain Trailer Mounted Battery
The 12-volt power circuit on the trailer connector provides the power for the brake controller which can use up to 10 amps per axle. The controller will 'pass through' the 12 volt power feed circuit to the trailer but it won't have too much effect during braking as the entire feed circuit only provides up to 30 amps. The # C51180 Echo needs that direct connection to the car battery in order to function and actuate your trailer brakes. In other words, I wouldn't depend on the 12-volt feed...
