The brake controller connector is located directly behind the hood release handle on your 2014 Explorer. Ford typically uses a gray plug, but it might also be a light brown in color.
I have confirmed this for certain w/ my Tekonsha representative.
If the plug is present, you'd use the # 3035-P wiring adapter to connect your Tekonsha brake controller to the connector under the dash. If your Explorer doesn't have the factory 7-way trailer connector, the plug might not be present. If this is the case, the brake controller would need to be hardwired using our brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. The kit contains everything needed to install a brake controller, including a 4-poke to 7-way adapter, hardware, wire and circuit breakers, but if your Explorer doesn't have the 4-pole, you'd need to install one using # C59236.
I'll link you to the installation instructions for the ETBC7 kit.
