Question:

hi weight distribution hitch sizing i am not always going to have the same weight with my tow behind travel trailer mated with1500 chevy silverado extended cab 2011 i live in canada in the summer canoes and bicycles and such in the winter much less. snow shoes and extra ice fishing gear. what type of sway control should i be looking at? is there one that ranges? the travel trailer is a 19 foot taylor coach dry weight approx 2400 lbs i am looking at the curt TRUTRACK 4P or the reese FastWay e2 Trunnion or should i be looking at another model? i like the idea of a trutrack or the trunnion for the added sway as i will be travelling through the rocky mountains this summer. thoughts ? i do not want to purchase one that is oversized for my unit. is that possible? any / all suggestions are very welcome thank you in advance for your help

Hey Bern, so some weight distribution systems have wider tongue weight ranges than others so if you'll have a wider range of tongue weights it would be a good idea to find one that has a range that would work with what you have. For example, the Curt # C17500 has a tongue weight range of 800-1,000 lbs. I don't know exactly what your trailer would weigh when loaded so it's hard to say if that's what you would want but I should mention this is a tighter range than most so my guess would be it's not your ideal solution.

Another option that I would recommend highly is the Reese Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a range of 400-800 lbs and has a very unique sway control that works to fight sway before it starts unlike other options that only try to minimize it once it's started. The sway control function does not vary in effectiveness based on the weight of the trailer.
