Determining If Trailer With 464 Dry Tongue Weight Works w/ 1000lb Fastway e2 Weight Distributuion

Question:

Hi - I have a e2fastway hitch that has a 1000 pound spring arm. I recently traded my trailer in for a new RVtrailer that has a dry weight of 5048 pounds and a hitch weight of 464 pounds. I believe that the current spring arm is way to big for the trailer. I am looking at a spring arm of 800 pounds to replace the 1000 pound spring arm. Please let me know if I am heading in the right direction. Thank you for your help with this matter! My tow truck is a 2011 Silverado 2500HD.

Congrats on the new trailer!

However you need to know the loaded tongue weight of your trailer, as the dry weight is not a useful figure.

With your trailer fully loaded like you'll be towing it use either the scale method in the below help article or a tongue weight scale like the # e99044.

Your current bars will work with loaded tongue weight between 600-1000lbs, so you may be fine reusing your current bars.

If you find you have a loaded tongue weight below 600lbs though you'll need to replace the bars with the 800lb bars # FA92-02-0899 if you have a trunnion bar system, or # FA94-02-0899 if you have a round bar system instead.
