Weight Distribution System for 16k lbs Enclosed Car Hauler

Question:

Hello, I’m looking for information on WD hitches. I have a 34’ enclosed car hauler with a max gross weight of 15900 lbs. I’m going to be hauling it with a 2021 Cummins Ram 2500. I will absolutely be at gross weight when pulling. Are there any that you recommend?

I have two recommendations depending on the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded. The total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of the trailer (typically 10-15% of the trailer) as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your Ram 2500. If you are closer to the 10% side of that scale I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control item # RP66075. This system has a 1,700 lbs maximum tongue weight and a 17,000 lbs capacity.

If you are on the 15% side of the tongue weight you are going to need to upgrade your Ram's hitch receiver to be compatible with a weight distribution system for that high of a tongue weight. The TorkLift SuperHitch Magnum Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - 2-1/2" and 2" item # TLD1112-30 will replace your factory hitch to provide the platform you need. With this hitch you can use the TorkLift SuperHitch Everest Weight Distribution System item # TLWD1000. This is our highest rated weight distribution system with massive tongue weight capacity of 3,000 lbs. You will also need either the Adjustable Shank XL for TorkLift SuperHitch Everest Weight Distribution item # TLM9011 or the Adjustable Shank item # TLM9010 depending on the drop you will need to make your setup level.
