I would be happy to help you set up your 2003 GMC Yukon XL to tow your 2016 Forest River SALEM CRUISE LITE 195BH. Without knowing what your current hitch's capacity is I can not say for certain you don't need to replace it. However, if you do want or need to replace it I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13422. This is a custom fit hitch that bolts onto your Yukon and has a 2" receiver opening. It has a maximum gross trailer weight of 6,000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 600 lbs.
If your vehicle doesn't have a wiring harness you will need two parts to be able to control your 2016 Forest River SALEM CRUISE LITE 195BH brakes and lighting functions. The first wiring harness will provide you with a 4-flat trailer connector and it is the 4-Pole Trailer Connector and Installation Kit item # C59236.
The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on the vehicle's battery, the white wire to ground, and the yellow wire to vehicle's reverse circuit if applicable. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's accessory lights.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" Ball, a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop, and is rated for up to 7,500 lbs. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
As far as towing mirrors go I recommend the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors - Slip On - Driver Side and Passenger Side item # CM10800. These durable mirrors slide over the driver's-side and passenger's-side mirrors on your GMC Yukon XL to extend your line of sight while you're towing. The felt-covered wedge locks securely to fasten the slip-on mirrors in place.
If you have any issues with sagging or sway control, please email me and we will look into a weight distribution system for your trailer.
