RV Bike Rack Hitch Recommendation

Question:

Hello. I am looking at UF35-946403 and C19101 to mount on my 2inch x 4inch travel trailer bumper. The 2inch receiver would be to carry a bike rack 5 bikes. Do you recommend one over the other? The review for the Curt says that additional stabilization is needed if hauling something without a wheel/axle, while the notes on the Ultra-Fab actually say not to tow with it. This makes me think the Ultra-Fab would be preferred but I want to see if Im missing anything... Its a bit of a difference in price and install. Would 18050 be recommended for both if used with a hanging bike rack? Thanks!

When it comes to hauling bike racks on a travel trailer there's a couple of things you have to take into account. The hitch must be rated enough to haul the weight of the bike rack and bikes. Most camper bumpers are not rated to haul anything and can easily bend or be ripped off when weight is added. You'll need to look through your owner's manual to determine the weight capacity of your hitch.

If your hitch weight capacity is not enough you can weld on the Ultra-Fab 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver for Trailer Frames
Item # UF35-946403 if your frame falls within 47"-77" in width but I recommend the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver - 18"-51" Wide - 2" Drop - Class III - 2" Item # C13701 if your frame width falls between 18"-51" because this hitch has a higher weight capacity and can can tow up to 5000lbs unlike the Ultra-Fab Hitch.

The next thing to take into account is whether or not the bike rack is rated for use on a motorhome/trailer. Bike racks have different ratings for different suspension systems so choosing the wrong one could overstress the bike rack and cause damage. If you need help finding a bike rack to fit your needs just send in the amount of bikes you plan on hauling and the weight of each bike.
