Weight Distribution Hitch for R-Pod Trailer Towed By 2016 Mercedes Benz Metris

Question:

Which Anderson WDH do I need for an T-Pod 179. Looking at the Andersen since it's light weight. I will be towing with a 3016 Mercedes Metris van with Draw-Tite draw bar. I will need maximum height. I believe that is 8 inches

I have a solution for you, but we don't currently offer the Andersen weight distribution system. It looks like most R-Pod 179 trailers have a dry weight of under 3000-lbs and a tongue weight of around 350-lbs in most cases (your trailer's tongue weight should be between 10-15% of the total weight of your fully loaded trailer). In order to choose the best weight distribution system for your trailer, you'll want the tongue weight of the trailer to fall in the middle of the tongue weight range of the weight distribution system you're using.

If your fully loaded trailer typically has a tongue weight of around 350-lbs, I recommend using the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System # 66557. This WD system has a tongue weight range of 250 to 400-lbs and uses friction in the hitch head, as well as an automotive brake pad like material on the spring bars that will prevent sway before it starts, meaning it's less noisy than systems that use steel on steel friction. Because the shank that is included with this system allows you to adjust up to 7-1/2" rise, this is a great fit since you require a rather significant rise on your weight distribution system (I've attached a helpful article on installing a WD system that will show you exactly how to measure to determine your precise needs to tow your trailer level). If you end up needing a taller rise than the 7-1/2" on the included shank, you can use something similar to the Curt # C17123, which can accommodate up to 11-1/2" of rise. The Reese Steadi-Flex system will fit on trailer frames up to 6" tall and 1-3/4" thick, so you'll need to verify that the frame on your R-Pod trailer is not larger than that to confirm a fit. Because you mentioned that weight of the system is a concern, I'll note that this Reese system weighs in at less than 60-lbs so it is light weight and easy to get on and off the trailer.

If you don't already have a hitch ball with a 1" diameter for your R-Pod trailer, you will need to purchase one since this system does not include a hitch ball. For a 2" ball you can use the # 63845 and for a 2-5/16" ball you can use the # 63847.

I've linked some informational videos on the Steadi-Flex system, as well as some helpful articles that will show you how to correctly install your new weight distribution system and measure to find the correct shank rise you'll need for your hitch. I've also linked our entire selection of rise/drop shanks in case the one that comes included will not work for your application.
