Tire and Wheel Combination Weight Capacity Based on Tire Max Load and Wheel Max Load Rating

Question:

Are the tire and wheel load ratings on the following product page accurate?AM32156 Specifically, the tire is stated as Load Range C, with a maximum load of 1,925 lb. at 60 psi. Most load range C tires are rated at 1,760 lb. at 50 psi. The wheel capacity is rated at 1,870 lbs., which is less than the tire assuming 1,925 for the tire. This seems like a poor match for the wheel and tire, especially since a typical user would assume the tire is mounted on a rim that has an equal or higher load rating. Thank you for your assistance.

The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM32156 does have a tire rated at 1,925 lbs at 60 psi. It is tire # AM10234 which I've linked for you to check out. The wheel is a lesser rated capacity of 1,870 lbs as you stated and is the Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 14" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized Finish # AM20354.

We don't make the combinations, the manufacturer does that part, but this combination will absolutely have the max capacity rating of 1,870 lbs as you will be limited by the weaker of the two components. This weight rating is very typical of the 14-inch wheels, so you will want to pay attention to the lowest rating, which is why we do state both, in each combination.

For instance, the Provider ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 14" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # TTWA14RWS will have a max capacity of 1,760 lbs based on the tire even though the wheel is rated for 1,870 lbs.
