Will a 2016 Ford Fusion SE Tow a 1,100 Lb Trailer
Question:
Thanks for breaking down towing capacity, maximum towing load, tongue weight and everything else. I apologize for asking a dumb question but what would happen if my 2016 Ford Fusion SE is a 1.6L with max capacity of 1,000 pounds and I have 1,100 pounds on it? Is it that it will just be slow to speed up or is the tow hitch going to rip out or something?

I cannot recommend that you tow a 1,100 lb trailer with your 2016 Ford Fusion SE that has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 lbs for liability reasons but in all honesty, you would most likely be just fine. Personally, I wouldn't really be concerned with towing over capacity by only 100 lbs. I would just avoid hilly areas if at all possible.
In order to tow a trailer with your Fusion you will need a trailer hitch, trailer wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. Also, if you will be towing frequently then you might consider an additional/upgraded transmission cooler as well but this is not a requirement like the above items are.
For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12091 because it has one of the highest weight capacities available and the more margin you have the better off you will be. This hitch is also a custom fit so no drilling is required and it is super easy to install. I have attached both an install video and photo for you as well.
For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118574 because we find this brand to be the most reliable with their wiring products. This harness is also a custom fit so no splicing is required. I have attached an install video for you as well.
For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Class II Drawbar part # C45016 with either part # A-80 or part # A-82.
If you choose to install a transmission cooler as well then I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13501 which has everything that you need.
