Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

2015 Ford Edge

Shipping was fast and the product installation was a breeze. The video instructions were great. I installed on a 2015 Ford Fusion Energi. Like some of the other comments, I was not happy about the idea of throwing away the under body wind panel. Not as much for the wind buffer, but because it can make the bottom edge of the bumper a bit wobbly and less stable. I should note that if you went to a dealer or another car shop, they would not have replaced this piece.

So I took to my dremel tool until I could mount the panel. It took much more time than installing the rest of the kit, but I'm happy with the result. Attached are some pictures that would have helped me quite a bit.

Some notes on the cuts. 1) Big cut out of the front for the hitch itself. 2) In the picture from the side, note that the "ribs" are cut down considerably. 3) On each end, I had to cut a 1/2" grove down nearly the length - leaving only the rear edge holding it together. There was enough to reinstall it the panel and keep it stable. You could consider fully removing the ends. 4) There is a little square cut out also on the ends to make room for the bolt/nut that hold on the hitch.

Hope the pictures help you.

I have a Ford Fusion Energy Titanium and received the Curt Trailer Hitch and installed it yesterday, took about 30 min to do super easy did it by myself. I Installed the wiring in about an hour. the T-One Wiring Harness 118574 fits the fusion only problem is you have to cut the wires leading to the harness (make sure you leave it long) and fish thru the center hole of where the lights go. E-trailer has very good customer service also.

Although I am somewhat handy, installing a wiring harness was a first for me. This product was simple to install and the instructions were easy to follow and I believe anyone could do it. The only hesitation I experienced was where the instructions called for a black power wire, but it was actually a red one. It was fun using my discretion to route the wire. I would definitely recommend this product for any do-it-yourselfer!

2013 Ford Fusion

This wire adapter works fine but was a real pain to install in my '13 Ford Fusion.
The wires have to go through an existing grommet to the outside of the trunk into an area that is VERY a tight space.
If you follow the directions for it, they tell you to pass the wire in the right area, and voila.
It isn't that easy at all.
I wound up making a fish wire from a coat hanger, passing THAT through the hole and pulling the wire connectors on each side. The passengers side was especially difficult because of the muffler.
Once the Wire was run to the tail lights, it was a little tricky to fit everything in to the space. kind of a puzzle.
Take my advice: remove the fixtures on one side at a time, remove the trunk carpeting and side trim then make a fish wire to use to get the connectors to the correct place. Unless you have very long skinny arms you will not be able to reach with your hands from under the car.
Patience pays off with this one. It is the car design, not the adaptor that is the problem.
Good Luck

This is the 2nd time I have ordered from etrailer and y'all are amazing. Everyone I talk to on the phone is helpful and extremely knowledgeable about everything. Y'all have awesome videos for us who like to install by our selves. The best thing is I know when I order it is getting to me asap. I have given your name to everyone I deal with in construction. I know several have told me they have used you and feel the same. I am a customer for life. Thanks

This product is excellent quality but the installation was a pain in the ass on my 2019 Ford Fusion 1.5 liter. To do do this properly without hacking up the car, many detailed steps are needed. First, the power wire needs to run from the trunk directly to the battery under the hood. I chose to run the wire inside the car under the trim panels along the bottom of the door sills. The wire then needs to go through the firewall to get to get under the hood. I found a large rubber grommet about 6 inches to the left of the brake master cylinder when looking under the steering wheel. When viewed from under the hood, it's to the right of the master cylinder but directly behind battery and ABS solenoid unit. After poking a hole, the wire can be run through the grommet. Once under the hood, this part of the firewall could not be accessed easily. I removed the battery to get access to this grommet so the wire could be pulled through. Now the wire could be hooked to the battery. Connecting the taillight plugs was tricky but the video posted by etrailer is very helpful. Instead of slicing the grommet as suggested, I just poked a small hole through it. I then cut the leads, passed them through the hole and soldered them back together. I feel this will help retain the weatherproof function of the grommet better. Fishing the connectors out to the taillights themselves is a pain, but it can be done.

The light harnes works well (reviewing it a year after I first put it in) but, I felt the install was a bit more work than the average person could handle. I am a former certified ford mechanic (now mechanical engineer), just to put things into perspective. Two main things were having to run a power cable to the front of the car for a battery source (other modes do not need you to do that). Also running the wireing harness/connectors to the tail lights were rough for I got it done. Just be aware of this before hand.

by:
2015 Ford Fusion

Installed the wiring harness using the video on the etrailer website. The detailed video was very clear, felt like I had an expert installer by my side. I previously installed a Curt hitch, also from etrailer, using the etrailer video. Self installation was easy and saved me excess of $300 over the pricing charged by several hitch installation shops. etrailer is the best ecommerce retailer I have dealt with, accuracy and fast shipping.

by:
2016 Ford Fusion

The wiring harness fit perfectly. The video helped make the installation go smoothly. Bringing the connector up through the maze of obstacles on the passenger side of the 2016 Fusion took about as long as it took to install the trailer hitch and the rest of the wiring - very tight fit! Again, the video helped.

by:

The hitch and wiring harness arrived in a timely manner and were exactly what we ordered. The only issue we had were that the directions were unclear on how to install (we ended up watching youtube videos) and the wire that connects the lights to the trailer was too short to connect to the trailer, so we had to purchase additional wiring. Everything else was great and I would highly recommend ordering through this website.

by:

It was easy to use the website to find the correct hitch parts for my car and to order. They arrived when expected and in an intact box, well packaged. Was able to easily install in under an hour.

2012 Chevrolet Volt

The wiring harness was very good quality and the etrailer video was very helpful in my installation process. The only problems I had were trying to fish the connector plugs up into the tail light cavities. I used a fish wire and tried to pull the plugs up thru the grommet hole, but there simply was not enough clearance in the channel to get past the existing wire harness. I ended up cutting the plug harness wires near the converter box and pulling the small two wire pair (brown/yellow) down the cavity and out the grommet hole. I then butt spliced the two wire pair back together. I had to do the same on the passenger side also...green wire.
The other problem was trying to route the black power wire to the front of the car. You really need a hoist to gain adequate access to the under carriage and finding that space between the engine and fire wall is not as easy as it looks. I ended up simply splicing on a 12 volt DC accessory plug and plugging it into the rear seat 12 volt DC outlet when I need to trailer something. I just tuck the plug under the rear seat when not in use.

Installed the wiring harness last year so I could tow a small trailer with my Ford Fusion. I admit I didn’t follow instructions to the letter, but I have used it quite often and never had any issues. Would definitely recommend.

2014 Ford Fusion

High quality product. Installed in 1-1/2 hours. However, Instructions are inacurate and missing key info for a 2013-2014 fusion install. Investigate how to remove the tail lense before taking this task on. The grommet that the wires run thru is too small for the connector housing so you will need to cut the harness, pass thru grommet and re-terminate using butt splice. Very few tywrap points for securing harness, recommend high perfomance tape instead. Fusion Hybrid owners, you have it easy, battery is in the trunk which simplifies install. Hybrid not addressed in instructions.

by:
2013 Ford Fusion

The problem I had is with the wiring harness there was no way to fix it through the way the video shows. It was much easier to just cut it and splice it back together. There was a hole with a grommet perfect for the wires. And could use more wrap ties.
And for the hitch the video was right on. I did remove the plastic rear cover to cut it. Just as easy, if you don't have a cuting tool. I used cuting snips.

by:
2013 Ford Fusion

Trailer adapter has worked flawlessly and the installation video was a tremendous help. The installation on a Fusion with duel exhaust is a bit more challenging than with a single exhaust (as shown in the video), but, anyone with average mechanical ability can accomplish installation in about 2 hours.

by:

Received order very quick. All items were as ordered. I installed the hitch myself in 30 minutes and it fit perfect. Wiring kit was also easy to install. Thanks etrailer.

by:

The wiring harness works well. The plugs snapped and locked into the factory plugs and were a perfect fit. There was plenty of wire to reach both taillights and the battery. I don't care for the included inline wire connectors since I feel they can easily pull out but that is more of a personal preference. E Trailer's instructional video made the installation very easy. I was not able to fit the wiring harness through the small space between the inner trunk panel to the taillight assembly and eventually drilled a hole from the trunk to the taillight

by:
2013 Ford Fusion

I would recommend this product for installing on a Ford Fusion Titanium. The package was as indicated, no missing parts. I was able to install the wiring harness on my own with no prior experience using on-line videos as reference. The trailer lights work as intended and I am happy with the product.

by:
2014 Ford Fusion

Great video, relatively easy install- Make certain to remove existing fastener for lead wires once the tail lights are removed. ALSO USE DUCT TAPE TO FASTEN YOUR PULL WIRE TO CONNECTORS FOR A MORE SECURE PULL THROUGH. I made two 7.5 inch wood stair ramps stacking and screwing together 2X12 by 14 inch wide with lumber with 3 1/2 inch setback for each "step. As grain was at right angles to the ramp, I made the ramp solid to avoid splitting. This is overkill, but I had the scrap lumber. 18 inch flat platform at rear of steps for resting area for tires during installation.

by:
2013 Ford Fusion

I have a 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium and this product installed into the factory wiring without any splicing or cutting, making it very convenient. The install however was a bit tricky because it was extremely tough to feed the t connector up to the taillight housing through the hole in the trunk; but that doesn't take away that the product is amazing! I use it for a small boat trailer and everything works to perfection. On top of the product being great, etrailer even upgraded my shipping for free and I got the product within two days of me ordering it. Overall the company was amazing with the tutorials, product, shipping and pricing. I could not be happier!

by:
2014 Ford Fusion

Advise to go online and review the video showing how to install this harness. Some reviewers stated they needed to splice the drivers side connectors because it wouldn't fit through the car frame. The video doesn't show how difficult it is fishing the connectors on the drivers side through the frame. I was able to do this after some difficulty and some scratched knuckles. Be sure to line the two connectors long ways while pulling the harness through the frame. Other than that, the video clearly show the entire installation process and is concise.

by:
2017 Ford Fusion

Everything arrived ahead of time and in perfect condition. I used the online videos to install the parts and everything went exactly to plan. I took my time (longer than the video said it would take) but everything went perfectly. The hardware video was primo for my 2017 Fusion. I used it for the first time today and everything went well.
My car is a 2017 so the wiring video was outdated and a little bit wrong (I'm sure they will get it updated), but I was able to make small adjustments on the fly and everything is in and working. I would buy from eTrailer again and while I rarely give recommendations, I would tell my friends to buy from eTrailer.
I was on a time limit to get the job done, so I didn't take time to snap pictures, but now I wish I had. The Curt system is well designed and as an engineer myself, I don't believe I could have come up with a better design. You can trust this product.

  • Recommended 4-Way Connector For 2020 Ford Fusion
All of the 4-way connectors offered for your 2020 Ford Fusion SE 4 Cylinder 2.0L Turbo do have a powered module that draws power directly from the battery of your vehicle. The reason for this is it protects your factory wiring from any damage which could be caused by a short in your trailers wiring, and reduces the strain on your factory wiring by not drawing power through it. • Does Curt Hitch C120911 Fit 2016 Ford Fusion Sport Appearance Package
I checked with Curt and they list the hitch part # C12091 as a confirmed fit for all models of the 2016 Ford Fusion so that would include yours that has the Sport Appearance package.
