Fit of Reese 20K Select Plus Hitch RP30928 in 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 with Factory Rail Kit
Question:
Will this item fit the GM factory installed under bed mounting rails puck system? If not, what would be the reason for it not to fit?

The Reese 20K M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 is designed to fit into industry-standard above-the-bed base rails like those in custom rail kit # RP50066-58 and universal-fit kit # RP30035. These kits differ in their price and overall installation time (the custom kit costing more and taking less time) but they both use the same industry standard above-bed rails. Any brand of standard hitch will fit into these base rail kits.
For a Sierra 3500 with the factory under-bed 5th wheel prep package no such base rails are needed since the truck has mounting pucks in the bed. There are several 20K-rated hitch options designed to drop right into the pucks, including the outstanding B&W Companion # BWRVK3700 and the Curt Q20 # C16530-16025. The factory rail kit in your truck allows fast and easy installation of a compatible hitch like those above along with the ability to have a clear bed when necessary for cargo needs.
If you need to install an industry-standard fixed 5th wheel hitch like # RP30081 in your long-bed Sierra 3500 you will need a rail adapter to provide the equivalent of the above-bed base rails it requires. You will use Demco part # DM6206. This drops into the factory pucks and provides the equivalent of industry-standard base rails to accept the Reese hitch. The Demco adapter is rated for 21K so you will not lose any of the hitch's 20K capacity through use of the adapter.
